Delta "Frameless" Shower Door | Installation & Review

Installing the traditional "frameless" tempered glass shower door kit sold from Home Depot. "Frameless", because that is what Delta calls it. In reality it is semi-framless. What is important, is it is one of the cheapest options for a shower door regardless of semantics. The 1, 2, 3 shower door kit from Home Depot costs ~$600 depending on the 1. glass, 2. trim, and 3. handles chosen. This took me about 5 hours total to install. (paid links)
Other materials to purchase at Home Depot: (beyond basic tools)
1/4" dry tile drill bit (for tile showers)
Assorted plastic molly bolts 1/4" and below
Silicon caulk (clear or white)

I installed this same set of doors just days ago. The anchors they provide absolutely do not fit a 1/4" hole, I ended up drilling a 5/16" hole and they were still a little tricky to install. I'm satisfied with the product. Had to customize the bottom track due to the lip of my shower pan being beveled, it slopes from the front edge down into the pan and is also slightly lower in the center. This causes the caulk joint to be about a 1/16" where it meets the walls and about 3/16" at the center of the bottom track.

That plastic anchor was confuaing me cause I have studs. Glad I found this video showing you still use them.

Excellent video! Very well done. I am a bit worried about the top plastic bracket roller. The instructions show a metal top bracket roller. Any concerns with that?

Hi just found your great video. Just installed the tub shower doors. Found out about the plastic parts you installed. Directions say nothing about it. Now is it better to remove doors to put plastic in or can I squeeze it in while doors installed???

Thanks! If you are talking about the plastic parts in the top of the door, you will probably have to take the doors down again I think. I wouldn't want to risk the doors falling out of the track on top and come crashing down.

Nice video showing how to install shower doors WITHOUT the need to make holes on the bottom of the tub! Was hard to find a video that showed that! Can you let us know what the the exact name and model number of the shower doors and parts are (or UPC code), so that viewers can purchase them also??? When I installed this nearly a year ago, these were basically the only Delta shower doors at the Home Depot In-Stock on the floor. It is a 1, 2, 3 choose your own design model, with 1: Glass (I used fully transparent here- cheapest), 2: Track (I used Traditional here - cheapest), 3: Handles (I think it is Lyndall here). Home Depot's website is not the best, so it's hard to match exactly, but it should be this link here: www.homedepot.com/p/Delta-Traditional-60-in-x-70-in-Semi-Frameless-Sliding-Shower-Door-in-Chrome-with-1-4-in-6mm-Clear-Glass-1117876/206268730 (total cost ~$600 or so depending on options you choose).

I'm about to tackle this but concerned about the water splashing through the bottom dam. the instructions on mine specify how high to drill the rail and provide a template. Did you follow the recommended height? Wondering if I should deviate.

There will be a very small amount of water that escapes from the bottom of the door for a 'normal' adult shower, kind of a micro spray with a few droplets. I didn't find it to be too much, and I think you'd have to shell out a lot more cash to do much better. I did follow the recommended heights.

That door sits extremely high in the tracks with lots of room for it to splash under the Door. Your little bit of splashing for a few seconds would not even come close to the amount of splashing from someone taking a shower. The biggest 1 star complaints on this shower door is the amount of water that splashes out from under the door.

I saw those one star reviews and was concerned about them. My experience with this door beyond my few seconds of splashing so far, is it that it works just fine. It has been in use for a couple months now with 3 different people using it and I see the same result I posted at the end of the video - a few droplets maybe. I have no loyalty to Delta, this has just been my experience with it thus far.

Worth noting that you can lower the door by moving the rollers up to the highest hole. Just installed the same set-up and noticed the gap (5/8”) under the inner door. Will probably lower mine.

Appreciated. Water will sheet off the glass as it gets wet. is it advisable to drill a small hole on the inside edge of the lower rail in order for water to drain back into the shower pan rather than having it collect in the lower channel?

That might work, however there isn't any designed slope to the track so I would see if the water pools in any one area before trying that modification.

@@findoutDIY Hi, with our installation,,we find the floor cross piece is angled toward the pan with no lip. Therefore, provided the piece is well sealed between pan and rail, the water drains off the glass doors exactly as it should. Thanks for the reply .

Just wondering why used those anchors if you said you hit a stud why not just use screws without them anchors

If I recall correctly, I just used a part of the plastic anchor to fill in the depth of the tile? But you are correct, if you have a stud, the plastic anchor piece is not necessary.

We had a guy install our today and the estucheons rub in between the doors (I think I’m using the right name. It’s the little discs that screw into the handle posts on the other side of the glass) Any idea why they might rub?

Are they Delta brand and made to go with that system? If they are, perhaps the glass doors are not hung correctly?

The total cost of the door was around $700 in materials. Total cost of adding this second bathroom to a one bedroom house was around $8,000 (likely increased the value of the house $20-35k)

Same question, should you silicone the edges of the bottom rail where it meets the sides. There seems to be gap where water can get in and stay trapped. Or should not caulk the bottom rail facing into the shower to allow it to run off?
