There's a few storylines left they could possibly make into a third game 1. Malefor isn't dead, and the lead designer Jared Pulled said he would love to see Spyro fully grown finally ending him once and for all. 2. The Dark Entity that corrupted Malefor was never explained. 3. Pyrah, Ignitus's battle squire washed up on the White Isle 3. Spyro still has his dark side.

That old guy said that the world came from Dragons, I mean you can tell that out of all the Skylander characters, they care about Spyro and Cynder way more than everyone else. The relationship is definitely there.
