@@hypertamer9661 Isn't nostalgia what fuels the love for the old Spyro trilogy?
@hypertamer96615 жыл бұрын
@@jeugene807 Tl;dr: Classic Spyro is still a great example of its own genre whilst LoSpyro is outshined by pretty much any other game of its kind. Nostalgia or not, classic Spyro remains a, while not flawless, good set of games. I'd say it is an extra. True, the games have aged, that's out of the question, but they still remain some of the best examples of a classic platformer game one could pick up. Of course those games have flaws, mostly in alternate gameplay styles and the first game being unpolished, which is to be expected, but they are less of a hinderance to the overall experience, which is still mainly focused on headbutting, flaming, and collecting gems while gliding across landscapes. It was and still is fun to play. I'm pretty sure that, if you had to recommend a game from the PS1, Spyro is to be considered just like Crash, although picking up the Reignited Trilogy is most definitely the better choice nowadays. But if someone were to ask you for a game where you can just combo your way through and have fun solving puzzles or destroying hordes of baddies, would you seriously recommend Legend of Spyro over God of War, Devil May Cry or even Okami or Zelda? Because I'm sure that, if you look to the other side, you can see Spyro being recommended over Crash (which I would if difficulty is a concern) or Super Mario 64. Sorry for the long comment, I couldn't just go without explaining in detail.
@jeugene8075 жыл бұрын
@@hypertamer9661 Hmm, fair point. The original Spyro trilogy definitely had a larger effect on the franchise than Legends did, but it's no reason to discount the opinions of those who liked it. The point I'm getting at is that nostalgia will feed any opinion, even those about the original Spyro games. While it is certainly not something to base a whole critique around, as both the comments and creator may be seen as doing, it is something to take note of and appreciate. Whether any of us likes it or not, these games made an impact on us all, for better or for worse. Which is really nice to think about now that I put it in words.

I'll go as far as to say "Dawn of the Dragon" is underrated. I felt that game had good combat with combos and you could specialize into an element until you eventually maxed out on all at the end. The story wasn't bad, the characters were good. (at least the main characters) Finding everything was somewhat difficult and with the friend, it's even better. And the sound track is actually really good for the most part with some forgettable ones in the mix "A New Beginning" had repetitive combat, which unfortunately makes up a huge part of your game and the story was meh, but there's still 2 more games to play through . Never played "The Eternal Night" But DotD was actually good and it upset me that it gets lumped in with the others just because it's part of the trilogy

I gotta say, I liked the entire trilogy. I like beat-em-up games. However, I don't think I'm a reliable source considering I like the Metal Slug series to the point that I got the Anthology version. (If you don't know what Metal Slug is, a quick Google search should help). My only main problem with Spyro 2 and 3 was WHY COULDN'T HAVE DAVID SPADE STAY FOR THE ENTIRE TRILOGY???? Like, is it just me, or does Sparx sound much more like a wimp in 2 and 3? Plus, I missed the weird jokes and lines he made in Spyro 1, like that **special** line he had right before the Dexterity battle (Again, a quick search will help, but I ((somewhat)) don't condone doing it.) I liked the generic story and the constant enemy-destroying, especially when I discovered the inf breath cheat code. However, I do have to agree that the Spyro 1 tutorials for the elements were far too long, even after completing the game already on a save, you still had to redo the tutorial. Other than that, the trilogy was ok in my opinion.

As someone who has played all of the good and bad Spyro games, I must say that THIS was an amazing trilogy. It wasn't trying to be cute or imitate the other games, it was just being its own thing, and to that regard, I think they succeeded. It was REALLY good! It's actually kinda hard to go into the reignited trilogy because my mind has been sort of wiped off the more "innocent" Spyro character. It's also hard to appreciate it when my most recent journey with Spyro (before Reignited) was a dark, edgy, epic, and badass adventure where Spyro was the Dragon of prophecy with a dark side buried in him, ALONG with a soundtrack that just pierces my heart. It's so epic. The choir soundtrack for the menu screens, ambiance, and battles were very powerful, and fit the universe LOS took place in, and I could feel the connections of each game that passed (from "New Beginning" to "Dawn"). I think I much prefer THAT Spyro over the innocent nerdy one that has drastically fewer abilities and lore behind him. If 1 thing is absolutely true, it's that LOS Spyro was way more fleshed out and explained AND EXPANDED upon than OG Spyro has ever been, effectively making LOS Spyro very likable, understood, emphasized, and seemingly powerful and important in his world (such as how he is the only type of dragon that can control Aether and Nether). He is just MORE badass than OG Spyro, and Elijah Wood really hit it home with the voice acting. He was a fantastic voice actor for Spyro. I have hope that ONE day, I'm going to launch KZbin and while I am browsing my recommendations, that I see one of 2 things: "The Legend of Spyro: Retold (Remastered)" or "The Legend of Spyro: Pt. 4" (which is very possible because of the sequel bait from Dawn. Feel free to check it out, they make it very open to a sequel in more than one way.) I think a remaster is very likely since it is a separate trilogy than OG and has a fanbase made up of OG & LOS Spyro fans. The universes may be different, but Spyro is Spyro. I absolutely think it would be a massive hit, and I swear it's only a matter of time! A new game *could* happen, but circumstances may vary. "New Beginning" & "Eternal Night" both have the same gameplay feel, while "Dawn" is completely different. If they want to revisit the trilogy but also want to keep a constant game flow then they would have to make a new game. I personally hope it continues because the LOS trilogy is a gold mine for creative freedom/writing. They can quite literally do ANYTHING as long as it remains appropriate to the universe. Let's not forget how they have dragged not just Spyro and Cynder into Skylanders, but the entire *BLOODY* lore from LOS Trilogy. Malephor, ancient dragons used to inhabit the Skylands, Dark Spyro, how the Skylands look so much like Avalar.....what are they doing? It's almost like THEY TOO also want to do something with LOS. If I had to choose, I'd go with LOS all day. Don't even think that I'm calling OG Spyro bad. It's good in its own way. LOS is something separate, and if I had to pick which timeline to spend the rest of my life in, it would be LOS without a shred of doubt.

@purple-cat Dawn of the Dragon is just the perfect "epic dragon adventure" game, everything in this game is so unice and fits and adds so perfectly to this world. But it is also for hardcore gamers, that wants good gameing mechanics, (...yeah, I just said this in such a gramma because Iam german...sry) instead of game mechanics that drives u even deeper in the world, like a GTA5 did, or Dawn of the Dragon. Because Dawn of the Dragon does both! Its challenging, and u need to get use to: the combat & combos, the diffrent elements from both characters and the platforming techniques. I started with the original Spyro games, but out of all the games, the Legend series was, and always has been, my most favorite. A unique combat system, which would later evolve further until Dawn of the Dragon. Awesome soundtrack. And one of my more favorite parts about the series was how dark it was. It wasn't as goofy or cartoony as past games. You played as a hero that's suddenly thrust into a position of responsibility that he's not sure he really wants. And he gains new friends and learns more and more about his growing powers over time. Then comes the Eternal Night, where Spyro relearns everything from scratch with the help of the mysterious Chronicler and of course on another quest to stop the titicular Eternal Night, and try to prevent another attempt at Malefor's rebirth. However, that ends up going wrong, and Malefor returns, and begins the three year war that Spyro, Cynder and Sparx were in a magic hibernation for. Now begins the final game of the trilogy, where things are different, and you play as two characters now in a tag-team. Dawn of the Dragon was the darkest of the three games, especially when getting into the final stages of the game that leads to Malefor. But I will never forget my experiences with the games.

Dawn of the dragon actually impressed me. I absolutely loved the story and character design. Also the gameplay felt so much bettter and less repetitive than its previous title. I’m not gonna lie , i still go back and replay the third installment to this very day. I also enjoy a dark story with Spyro. When people say it doesn’t make sense for spyros cartoon character to be put in this scenario I question their logic because Spyro is a fucking D R A G O N and dragons are originally known for being killing machines so it felt nice to see my favorite childhood game become more mature as I continued to grow up. I heard once that there was plans to make mature rated spyros with blood and all that jazz but it was obviously canceled due to the backlash of this trilogy. I think I might be one of the only people who enjoyed the changes Spyro has been through.

a bit late to comment (actually two months lol) buuut that's so true. xD I loved tlos and I wish they made a reignited trilogy of that too. also, I actually did play the original Spyro the Dragon, too. sadly I didn't have every game like other Spyro fans (to be precised, I had spyro the dragon (1), tlos1 & tlos3) but with reignited I now got the opportunity to play spyro 2 and 3 now. :3 anyways, I have to admit, tlos wasn't all good - especially combat of 1 and 2 (I started playing tlos2 on an emulator a short time ago and actually gave up on the same enemies) and also the tutorials were annoying. however, tlos3 did a good job in that regard, plus I loved the trilogy for its story so a remake could make combat better and be an amazing reboot of these games.

Suprised you didn't mention the fact that Spyro and Cynder being connected in the third game actually gets used in them for things BESIDES keeping players near each other. For example it gets used for climbing walls, where there isn't enough room to jump from one patch the next, instead you build momentum on the chain to swing over to the rope. Or on the same area you praised for opening up, the mechanic gets used to pull a river up-stream. In that wall level too, you complained about it going back to just beat-em-up, yet that whole part you are alternating between destroying towers, fighting enemies, and repairing the cannon in the middle: You're doing a ton more than just "mash A to beat enemies"... Which doesn't even work with half of them anyways.
@elliottcoleman82255 жыл бұрын
Not to mention the combat now has hit counts which contribute to the fury bar, and the grabbing mechanic, which rewards you for using it cuz hit streaks while gripping an enemy give you more fury. Spyro and Cynder also have different fighting styles; Spyro is strength and power sacrificing speed, and Cynder is Speed and Mana sacrificing health. If you're playing co-op, it's fun to think and work together with the person you're playing with. The gameplay was pretty awesome for its time.

The scorpions in The Eternal Night are not hard to beat at all. There's just a pattern of combat moves you need to figure out to beat them (disarm them of their claws first and then hit), after that it's fairly easy to get past them. You obviously didn't even try to figure it out because the game was boring for you which is fair enough, but you were talking about the fight like it's incredibly hard and that's very misleading.

He went from a super cuddly and childishly bright game where everything have eyes to suddenly the world being depressed and polluted, everyone is enslaved and Rayman has lost his will to fight when you meet him and is captured while the world is filler with murderous protruding thorn vines and undead monsters. And Rayman 3 has a dark setting too, literally, it's more shaded. But that worked. What's wrong with Skylanders? I can agree with not liking Spyro's design, but you have to remember its not even his game. Heck, he's just a character who happens to be in the series that you can use - Spyro has virtually no impact on the story whatsoever. Plus, Skylanders put Spyro on the map and introduced him to a whole new generation of fans (including myself). I guarantee if it wasn't for Skylanders, I never would've known he existed - let alone had a several classic game titles.

"And if these games had any semblance of the previous games, the ones that made Spyro a name in the first place, I would have been a lot more interested." There's the problem. The Legends series really can't be judged based on the original trilogy. They are two completely different game genres. One is a collecting platformer, and the other is an action adventure with RPG elements. It's complete with different tones, which are not supposed to be the same. Combat was probably the part of the game I got the most hung up on, but it also happened to be one of my favorite parts. When it wasn't horrendously difficult, I thought it was very satisfying to blow up dozens of enemies with a fully-leveled breath weapon. However, there were times when I would get stun-locked between several enemies that could kill me in 3 hits... after I had already defeated 7 waves of them. I was never able to get the third game, so I won't comment on that, but I really enjoyed the world-building of the first two.

In other words a game is too hard for me to beat so there for I hate it. I actually learned to stay up in air as long as you can from the scorpions as they can't hit you while you glide around and hit them while still in the air. Then when you finally are able to get a chance head butt their claws up and then fight them, I use ice breath because it keeps one of them frozen for a bit whie I can focus o fighting and take out the other one. To bad he never beat Eternal Knight because otherwise he would have unlocked the best part about Spyro's powers and that is Dark Spyro.

Or ANY of the Pokémon mystery dungeon games, or Pokémon anime/manga, or sonic, or Made in abyss or half of all anime really. Or the intro to UP- My point is you can make anything dark. Also I don’t even find this series “dark” it just takes its plot series. The internet has a bad habit of labeling ANYTHING not aimed at 5 year olds as “dark”.
