It doesn't seem like too many people realize that Berdly's spelling bee arc, is actually more focused on Noelle in a way. She failed the spelling bee because the name of her sister December, or "Dess" who passed away, came up as a word in the spelling bee. Which is why you help her spell December before reaching Queen's Mansion. Infact, remember how Chapter 1 was loosely based around Susie opening up? It's the same thing here with Noelle. If you pay attention to the details and parallel metaphors between the Light and Dark world, it becomes clear that Chapter 2 was her character arc. Berdly was just explaining why he feels pressure to be smart. For all we know, there's more we don't know about him. We don't even know where he lives, for one. Either way, great video. Just thought I'd share some knowledge!

That's something I didn't really think about until yesterday I think? I'll admit I'm a bit slow when it comes to details like that lol. I did notice the December thing beforehand which made me feel worse for Noelle, but yeah that whole thing was focused more so on Noelle than Berdly. And yeah I see your point about the parallels, I get the feeling the future chapters might continue with that, with Toriel potentially being next on the list? That is, assuming she'll become a party member. Anyway, it's just kind of a shame Berdly didn't get much more than that little cutscene. Maybe he'll have some more spotlight in a future chapter, but on one hand I kind of doubt it given Snowgrave. It just makes me think Berdly won't have much of a presence in future chapters regardless of which route you take, but I could always end up being wrong. I'm rambling though lol, thanks for the info!

@@Wyrlwind It took me awhile to find that out aswell honestly. It's crazy how much we have left to find out about this world! Yeah, mainly the parallel I was thinking of was Noelle's Mom and Queen. You can tell by the end Noelle really stands up to Queen for trying to assume she knows what's best for her. And with Noelle's Dad in the hospital that feeling as probably been amplified and came out in the dark world as a way get over that lack of control she's had in her life (presumably). There are so many layers to this story, it's so well done. Yeah totally! And also Undyne might be there aswell right? Toriel did call the police. I wouldn't be surprised if she gets sucked in sometime after Kris opens the dark world. And you're right, there's a good chance that's it for Berdly. And I can't deny that at least at first glance Berdly's "arc" had kinda lame presentation than what were used too unfortunately. But who knows? Maybe it's all intentional. Thanks for the reply, it's surprisingly fun discussing Toby's work in environments like this. You got a cool thing going on this channel!

Great video, great script. One thing I’ll just mention is some behind the scenes stuff. Toby Fox mostly made Undertale and Ch 1 on his own with some drawings from others. Ch 2 was made with a full team and had the support of others. Mostly, all of the growth and improvements came from Toby not having to build a full game on his own.

Deltarune’s combat is incredible, but I would really love to see them add more spells. (or more permanent party members, either one works) Like, Dual Heal and Fluffy Guard would be great to have all the time, but you just can’t for some reason. Maybe a party member that uses buffs or status conditions would be cool too.

Toriel might become a party member in Chapter 3, well at least judging by the ending of Chapter 2 she could. She could be a fitting character to fill in a supporting role on the team. And yea I think would be cool if there were more spells, but having dual heal and fluffy guard all the time might make the game too easy. I'm sure they could think of other spells to add in though

There is basically no way that Kris is the knight, because we know that the knight created the computer lab fountain, and we know Kris couldn't have for two reasons: First, Noelle and Berdly are already sitting down with their books open on the table in front of them, implying the fountain was created *after* they both were in the computer room. The only argument against this I've heard or can think of is that the books weren't there and open at first, but the dark world somehow affected the light world, opening the book and placing them on the table right in front of where Noelle and Berdly "wake up." However, Noelle believes that the whole dark world was a dream and that they fell asleep while studying, and still believed it after she "woke up." If she "woke up" at the table and didn't even remember sitting down there to start work, she surely would have thought that was suspicious, no? Therefore, the dark world appeared after they got there, which was after the start of chapter two, and we saw Kris at all points from then until they discovered the dark world, so Kris couldn't have opened it. Second, as shown each time Kris takes out their soul, they can barely even walk without that soul. However, to open the computer lab fountain, they would have had to: Leave the house unnoticed, walk all the way across town, break into the library without leaving a trace, create a dark fountain, get back out of the library, (again, without leaving a trace,) walk all the way across town *again*, then go to bed, all when they struggle to even walk. This comment ended up being _way_ longer than I thought it would be lol

I mean, one could argue that Kris and Susie shouldn't have been able to show up on the floor of the unused classroom then. There's no real way anyone could have snuck in while Berdly and Noelle were studying and have opened a fountain, I assume they simply just fell into the dark world, not understanding why the room was so dark. Regardless, I don't know whether or not I really think that Kris is the knight. It's certainly possible since they know how to open a dark fountain, but as another comment mentioned, Kris may have only learned how to open fountains after Queen mentioned it in Chapter 2. Whenever I said Kris is presumably the knight in the video, it was more of a quick assumption than what I actually thought if I'm being honest.

Another detail i haven't seen anyone talk about: When you meet Ralsei at the Cyber World, he says "I sensed a dark presence", so Ralsei can sense the fountains. Whether you believe Ralsei is evil or not, it's undeniable that he wants to seal the fountains, so if there was a dark fountain in the library since the beggining of the chapter, Ralsei would've mentioned it

Did you know that if you chose any dialogue that Susie has in the Ferris wheel dream with Noelle, it will lead to the same dialogue? I think it's because Kris is just _wondering_ about it. I'm surprised that no one talks about it though. I just realized the Deltarune OST: 5 - The Door sounds like Hell's Kitchen Dramatic Sound (Waterphone) - Sound Effect but slower. Also, no one noticed this.

im pretty sure the fact that the dialogue doesnt change is just because we don't have control of Susie. Whenever we try to choose things for Susie, i.e. the prison in chapter 1 and the party split in chapter 2, she just picks stuff for herself.

This is a fun video to see a random persons thoughts, also appreciate the fixing Kris's pronouns. I feel like Kris being the knight is still a theory/arguable thing, sounds super cool honestly and I can't wait for chapter 3. The reason chapter 2 took years is Toby said he has a bigger team but now he has to take extra time to clearly communicate his visions and ideas to the whole team! Kinda disappointed you didn't cover Spamton more, he's a super cool and cute character and interesting how every chapter has a character like Jevil and Spamton, can't wait to get his merch

I really really like your take on this video and how honest you were with your feelings towards things like the battle system and the story, to name a few things. You did this review justice, and while I don't have any complaints here, I would have been willing to hear you talk more about Spamton since he's very involved in Chapter 2 and appears to have a lot of importance. Though I do know you brought up how adding more to this review would have made it a lot longer, which is very understandable^ Y'know if you end up actually making a video about deltarune theories and lore, I will be willing to watch that video because it's something I would be interested in watching.

Yeah it didn't occur to me until sometime after I got done scripting this video that I didn't really talk about Spamton in the review, but unfortunately I couldn't figure out any way to fit him into the script without it seeming kind of forced in. Berdly is probably one of the most funny characters in the game, up there with queen and lancer. people hate him because of how hes annoying, but a lot of the funny chapter two jokes actually revolve around him, like “I only play mobile games” or “ or give me bad ideas for smartboy theme park”. I also find it pretty funny how he switches from trying to act smart to immediately being stupid after his little cutscene

Berdley was the driving force of the comedy and toby actually managed to give him a story people could relate while never excusing his behavior. Like people still found him annoying but he became pretty understandable in the end imo.

i really like Berdlys back story. not because its good for him. but it gives more interest in Noelle's backstory. its prefect for his character. even in his own backstory he's taking second place. if you don't know why i will say below. Noelle freezes on the word December, that's also the same word that is spelled out when your going through the alley. its pretty clear that Noelle had a sister who is no longer in the picture for one reason or another. this character is always referred to as Dess. given their family's whole theme its not hard to guess that Dess's full name was December. so Noelle freezing on saying their name shows not only that whatever happened with Dess was most likely pretty bad. but it also shows that it happened when they were rather young, considering Noelle's age during the spelling bee and the stories implying there wasn't a massive age gap. maybe about the same age gap as between Kris and Asriel. meaning its not as simple as Dess moving away or going to collage. so thanks Berdly. I know you were trying to get us to sympathies with you but you failed. added to Noelle's backstory though so good job anyway.

And if you kill him, the game would throw things at you to say “You killed Berdly so he isn’t here at this moment where he would have said something about this.” Or “Berdly would have done something else here.” From a deltarune chess theory video, they said Halberds are useful against knights. That makes me think Berdly would develop a lot as a character, and then that would help tremendously later on against the knight. Alternatively, if we kill him, it will make the fight against the knight much harder. Berdly has shown to be capable in chapter 2, as he saved our asses against Giga Queen. A glimpse of this development could be in the unfortunate snowgrave route. Where he takes a situation seriously for once and drops the ego feeding languages. So while his growth kind of accelarates but is stopped by his death Snowgrave, it’s more gradual in the main route.

Honestly I really wanted to talk about him in the video but the thought didn't cross my mind until well after I finished the script lol. But much like everyone else, I really like Spamton! Hard to think up my thoughts on the spot but I think it's something about the fact that only Kris knows the weird stuff Spamton has talked to them about, and how Spamton relates to Kris from the perspective of a puppet. I think a lot of fan content can be really blatant with the themes of Kris being the players puppet, but that's kinda why I like how it's dealt with in Deltarune. Its more subtle, but Chapter 2 expands upon those puppetry themes with Spamton & Kris. Still really funny to me how Spamton became such a popularly meme'd character because of all that. Oh and him as the secret boss confused me at first, but once I picked up on the details, I loved it. His boss theme is a killer track. Its a shame the boss can be so easy if you buy the special big shot bowties he sells at his shop though, usually I just opt to fight Spamton Neo without that armor because it's more fun that way. Uhhh I'm rambling, hopefully that was a good reply lol

I have kinda hard relation with Undertale, one day i like it, one day i don't But Deltarune, man, I love sooo much about it. I love how it has those secret bosses, which are kinda like Touhou Project's Extra Stage bosses, and they are already amazing. Come to think of it, I can draw a lot of comparision between Deltarune and Touhou, and trust me, me comparing them is a compliment for Deltarune. But it's not about Touhou, it's Deltarune. Deltarune chapter 2 came in in a weird moment of this year for me, where all i did was playing Spore and Sonic Adventure 2 with no emotions, just empty gaming sessions. And this game kinda motivated me to move my butt and start actually drawing. I drew a lot of Spamton, I drew some crossover art that are interactions of 4 very similiar touhou characters and deltarune characters lore-wise and and character-wise (Those being Flandre Scarlet with Jevil and Koishi Komeiji with Spamton, which both are suprisingly secret/extra stage bosses) And well, it really means something if a 3 hour 1/7 of a game can motivate to do something besides laying in my bed and emotionlessly play games And i also have to mention how Queen was written perfectly. She can reference modern meme culture, but does it by keeping the vibe and the core fundamentals of today's memes, instead of just referencing memes, which kinda puts a time limit on media that does that, since memes die rather quickly, and makes them feel like people behind them are going "how are you doing, fellow kids" So, Queen is good

your idea of the story being predestined is very much supported by the beads in the main hospital room in the normal route, the beads "march grimly upon their destined path" while in Snowgrave the blue one is broken, showing that you've broken away from what the prophecy has predicted the prophecy being the prediction being supported by how Ralsei is very confused when things don't go how he thought they would in Snowgrave

I think there's a pretty simple explaination for why Ralsei is in CyberWorld. When we first enter the said World we can see that when Kris is changing into his "Dark World Form", there is a star comming out of his head, (just like when you grab all the junk from the ild classroom and bring it to the supply closet) which implies that you somehow brough Ralsei with you. But I hear you asking, how could we bring the fluffy boy with us? Simple, when we check our Inventory before entering the Library, we have a piece of broken Glass in our Items, which I can only assume is Ralsei's Light World form.

Mouse wheel can be a tad bit annoying but honestly for most fights going pacifist makes things go by faster, or at least near equal speed as neutral. I get what you mean though

Id just like to say kris is not the knight. The only evidence we have for this is the fact they create a dark fountain but even then they only do it after getting told exactly how to make a dark fountain from queen. Their is also bits of evidence against this like how the king refers to the knight so fondly yet sees kris as just some lightner. He doesnt recognize kris as the knight at all but instead just sees him as some lightner who wishes to close his peoples dark fountain. Also if kris was the knight why do none of the darkners bring it up especially in chapter 1 where it was rather obvious the knight had a large influence on them and their king. I think its even said in some dialogue with the other imprisoned kings or with roulxs or something that the knight even helped overthrow the other kings for chaos king. If kris was even remotely the knight someone would recognize them as such and yet no darkner does

There's one thing people tend to forget about Berdly's plot reveal. Or maybe it's just me. Somehow, it feels like it is just a way to develop Noelle even further, rather than making Berdly relatable. It's all about Noelle's trauma about December : her search history that you can read going to her room in the queen's palace, Berdly's story of course, and even the last "puzzle" her and Kris complete just before the palace. Berdly, while I like him a lot, is just secondary to Noelle. He was written to emphasize Noelle's narrative arc.
