Okay so "is a girl" and "is a boy" are on the comment blacklist. I'm going to pin this comment so hopefully people read this before they type. Yes, unlike Treesicle I am aware that Ralsei is a boy and Susie is a girl. No, whatever gender you think the voice cast is does not magically change the canon gender of characters in game nor does it mean I'm somehow an idiot who thinks they're a boy/girl/whatever gender. Bro and Emmy gave the best auditions for the characters and thus they were cast. Thanks for your time and I really, really hope people actually read this! Edit: Congratulations there have now been over a hundred people trying to "test" the blacklist. It works. You don't need to test this. There are better things to do with your time.

I personally think the voices are more fitting this way: Susie with the "mean, darker voice" and our "fluffy boi prince" with a higher one. It doesn't matter who is speaking, the final sound fitting for each character is important. Bart Simpson for example is voiced by a woman in German...just to let you know :)

I think the situation is more complex than Ralsei just ignoring Kris's crisis. It's that their views of the world are so different that they struggle to collide: Kris is used to living in a world where they have learned that "no one can choose who they are": they have always been the quiet, weird kid who lives in their brother's shadow and this has never changed despite their efforts, so why should things be different now? Their choices matter even less now that they are being controlled by the player. Ralsei, on the other hand, has an optimistic and opposite view of the world and goes as far as to encourage Kris to "be the change [they] want to be", while Kris has already resigned in thinking that they can't change who they are

Especially starting in Chapter 2, Deltarune is gearing up to drive a wedge between the concept of "Kris" and the concept of "the Player", giving Kris their own distinct identity that is diverging from ours as things go on - I think giving Kris a voice of their own actually makes a lot of sense in this context. Fascinating that they managed to deduce this in Chapter 1, though. This not-musical has aged unexpectedly beautifully.

Now I'm thinking of how a Deltarune musical would work on an actual stage, and I've come to the conclusion that the best way to convey the way Kris is being controlled by the player in the medium of a stage play would be to have the actual Director of the show up on stage (maybe off to the side, or behind set pieces, but still visible), constantly directing Kris, feeding them lines, and maybe with stagehands in all black coming in to push them in the right directions. Then the scenes where Kris rips out their Soul could take place during large scene changes, where we don't see what they do because the curtains always close after they pull out the knife.

Okay I just wanna say: I LOVE your depiction of Kris! Obviously the voice is amazing, that’s a given, but I love how you did their existentialism and their whole “I have no choice” thing. First, Kris’s first few lines. “It gives me this power... but I’ll get my freedom before morning light.” Note the phrasing here. They don’t want to use their power TO get their freedom, they feel like it restricts their freedom even more. A prophecy itself a a rule book of fate: it’s going to happen no matter what. They don’t see their power as a gift, but a curse, and despise it. Their interaction with Ralsei is added on with this too! Throughout the song they don’t respond to him at all, barely acknowledging his presence along with Susie’s. That’s because Ralsei is encouraging them to follow through with the prophecy, resigning himself to fate and encouraging him to *give up their right to choose* through the whole “DONT hurt people” thing. This, added along with the obvious parallel to Susie’s “Do what I say or else” has Kris (at this point) see this adventure not as that, but a detriment. Because in the end they’re just following commands. Your version of Kris is an angsty teen like so many others, but yours is a *realistic* angsty teen. They feel trapped and without choice because they quite literally are, with no people supporting him to do otherwise. And with a strange entity shown to be controlling them somewhat, that makes it doubly so. *Their grief comes from a realistic cause,* and I applaud you for fleshing our Kris’s character like this. Kudos to you bro!

I love the way you lyricized Kris' experience in this Realm of Darkness. He has no idea why he ended up in there, how he even had a SOUL inside of him. Nobody understands this on the Surface and he doesn't *want* to be out of control of his own actions. He wants his individuality back. But now, DETERMINATION has taken him over, and for what reason? He doesn't know. He feels as if he's being pulled on strings and he hates it. His choices have no longer become his own because of the Player. He is now a subject to the Player's will. Which could explain a lot about the ending of Chapter 1. He tore out the SOUL and set himself free. Or, he had gained so much LOVE that it drove him to the edge and tearing out the SOUL was all he needed to gain complete control.

This song shows just how opposite Deltarune is to Undertale. That is the freedom of choice. You could choose what you could do in Undertale, even your own name. You could choose to spare everyone, kill only a few monsters, or heck even them all! And your choices make up the outcome. In Deltarune, the game outright states you have no choices in the world. You cannot kill monsters if you chose to, since they all run away. And Kris’s lyrics perfectly sum up just how much control you actually have over the situation, which is none.

Great song! I've noticed with the 'don't forget' leitmotif, you've gone for a more hopeless/negative theme.
