I googled a couple things in about 5 seconds and found this data: There are approximately 144 WNBA players across 12 teams. The estimated annual revenue of the WNBA is approximately $60 million. This is before operating costs. So if we discounted operating costs altogether and gave the players exactly equal shares of the revenue, then each player would receive $416,666.66 per year. Lets just assume that they should get half of the total revenue, leaving the other half for the salaries of the ownership, arena workers, marketing, all that. So a WAY, WAY MORE THAN FAIR wage would be $208,333.33 per player. Any player complaining that she should be making more than the benchwarmer players should be kicked out immediately for being a hypocrite.

Why would Clark turn down a much larger offer from Ice Cube? Because she can't hang with the guys. Why is everyone afraid to say this? If the people who feel the gap should close more would like, start another league, pay the women what you feel they deserve (using Clark as an example, $6M for a 40 game season), and put your money where your mouth is. Best of luck to you.

@@billycox475 Exactly. You really think Nike is going to throw tens of millions at what would have immediately devolved into a novelty act playing in a novelty league? The public interest is in seeing Clark play in the WNBA against the best women's players and (hopefully) dominating that league in the same way Jordan did to the NBA while carrying it's popularity to heights it never imagined to be possible a mere decade ago. And if she's successful (pretty likely, imo) that same Big 3 deal will be there any time she wants it because at the very least it will still have that "but can she succeed against men" interest backing it. You'll never see the XFL ask for equal revenue share. They know their place in the totem pole and most of their players (not all) are infinitely happy just be able to continue their playing career. They're projected to make 100 million this year alone, way more than the WNBA. This means even with a noticeable skill gap difference, the XFL will, in the near future, earn a profit unlike the WNBA because the product is entertaining enough for people to tune in. What always blows my mind about the WNBA is how many fundamental mistakes get made on a nightly basis. I don't care if they can barely dunk or aren't as skilled in general but after 2 decades of 'professional' games I'd expect them to at least have the fundamentals down and not constantly make high school level decisions at the end of close games. That's not to say it's every team or that the NBA doesn't screw up obviously but it's at least called out. In the WNBA it gets so common on both sides of the floor that it's basically just treated as part of the game. Makes me really wonder what some of these coaches are doing.

Great breakdown and realistic assessment...As good as CC is I still can't see Nike giving her $28 million for a shoe/apparel contract when most women will not buy them, just like most women don't watch and attend games...Great for CC but like the league itself I don't see how this deal will be profitable for Nike..

When the NBA was still struggling and still on tape delay in the 70s, most players had to work in the off season. Only the major stars like Kareem, Wilt or Dr J made over $250K.

This argument works with any other WNBA player but Clark definitely deserves more than 80k, she’s going to bring 10s of millions to the league in her first year alone.

Based on the revenue both leagues generate, the average WNBA players make twice as much as the average NBA player..I’d be thankful I’m getting paid 100k being apart of something that loses money every year

Caitlin Clark has no shot either. They played the racist angle on her getting hit with the John Cena by Reese. Launched a 2 year media campaign behind her based of that alone. Without that, everyone will remember that the games are unwatchable

What are the “average” stats for a whole men’s season ie; winners losers team stats all combined, and a women’s season? Has anyone done any analysis like that? For example, average total points scored per game, average shots per game, blocks steals and turnovers etc.
