You know, considering Hasbro also owns Dungeons & Dragons, they could totally make a toyline of Transformers that all turn into D&D monsters. I mean, whether or not their shareholders would sign off on it is another story, but I sure as well want them to do it!

Imagine a Transformer who turns into a beholder, where the eyestalks turn into a cape and the center eye is on the top of his head while the mouth becomes the chest. Or a bulette transformer where the bulette's mouth becomes a giant grabby claw hand and the rest of the body folds into a cool sharklike robot. Or an owlbear who has an owl's face on his chest, bear claws, and the feathered parts of the arms detach and become wings, while the face looks bearlike. Or an elder brain that basically unfolds and shellforms from its usual shape to turn into a giant mindflayer, with all the tentacles forming the cloak and robe. Or a chimera where the goat and dragon heads form the shoulders while the lion head opens its mouth to reveal the face.

I took Skullitron out of the package like 20 minutes ago and holy hell are those ball joints looooose. I just did the first round of floor polish to fix that.. The figure looks amazing though. If you only get one version of this mold, this should be it.

There's a really neat concept here, I like the idea of how the transformation is suppose to work. It'd be cool if they somehow revisited and improved upon this design somewhere down the line, even if just for a completely different character.

the head is actually meant to look like that with the neck guard up like that, it's good that Hasbro did that as it's an actual piece of armour that was used in medieval times. That said it is a damn good figure and I can't wait to get him, thanks for giving me heads up on his joints.

Haven't found Steelbane yet, but I bought Skullitron. Same looseness problems, but I agree that the dumb Wyvern mode and the cool knight proportions really grew on me. I might buy a couple Steelbanes because I've fallen in love with the aesthetic so much.

I did pay full price for this...but only because a paladin dragon was my kettle of fish. I do agree, it's massively flawed, but the sculpt and paint just spoke to me in wonderful ways. I really should seek a TF Prime version of Predaking to hang out with him.

Yup. I got Barricade and Berserker 'cuz Target had a sale. I did not like Berserker until he had nail polish on 85% of his joints, and Barry needed a fair amount too. I may pass on Steelbane entirely if he needs more than those two. BTW Sqweeks is magnificent.

I feel like the noticeable robot feet in Dragon mode could have been avoiced by adding a hinge and a bit of length so the foot rests more naturally in the knee curvature.

Amazing how absolutely every word you said I agreed with a million percent, right to the exact same floor polish fixes. I said it was a disgrace this passed QC. Makes me worry that Skullitron with be wretched too.

These guys are almost always marked down at my local Walmarts. I picked up Steelbane today for a lil' over 15 bucks. The joints out of the package were solid, save for some looseness on the dragon arms. Did a small bit of tightening to him overall just for solidity's sake, and like...I just couldn't avoid picking him up thanks to this friggin' review, and I have every intention now of going for Skullitron if my local TRU keeps stock. It's easy to forget these guys are even a part of this franchise. Do wish Steelbane would have gotten the sword Cogman ended up with, just to have that pristine/decayed contrast with Skullitron get even more played up. Steelbane is so far my first purchase from the TLK line, and I really can't regret it.

I just picked up Skullitron today (he looks so f'in cool) and I must say the quality of my copy of the figure is superb, all of the joints are tight enough, but the tabs locking the wings to the chest are still something of a problem on it. Easy to fix, but still annoying nonetheless. I'd recommend it more if it weren't 20 dollars, but I knew what I was getting into when I got it lol

If about every copy of the toy has extremely loose ball joints, not to mention the other joints, is premium priced, has a really flawed dragon mode and is released with toys that don't share those flaws, I don't exactly see why should anyone give it a chance.
