More to a gradual thing, where 0% is perfect, 10% is a bruise, 30% is a couple bruises, 100% is the current thing that you know, and it caps at 150% with the body of a sinner.

1:35 Mac actually does get bruised up the more damage he takes 😮 He gets a few bruises the higher percent he reaches. It's hard ti notice in game

Just about everyone expected you to replace the KO punch with the 3-star system. (Why didn't the dev team think of this originally?) Even as someone with next to no knowledge on boxing like you, I'd say you nailed Little Mac's actual playstyle in being an out-boxer. Well done on your final Remake It for 2024, Delzethin! Before you read, sorry for the long reply I believe the reason the star system isn't used is due to the nature of punch-out and smash itself. In Punch-out you master the game with repetition and memory. If you practice long enough, you'll know when an opponent will attack, and when you can get a star because of their animation. If you get hit you lose a start. And you can combo into the star punch (which is the proper way to use it). In Smash, players are unpredictable no matter the skill level, you won't know if they will swing with standard attacks, specials, or grabs. If stars had the same mechanics as their home title, then it would be completely unfair to fight against mac. Its very easy to interrupt/hit someone during of their animation. On the other hand, if mac gets hit while he has stars (this would include grabs, throws, and projectiles) then it would be harder to keep stars than it would be to keep KO punch My solution (because I would like the star system): Make him gain stars with his down special. Design his down special to be a dodge stance on the ground, but slip counter in the air. For the first second it is activated, he can dodge anything (no projectiles or attacks bigger than his body then directions have to be input to dodge, and if you hit someone during the dodge you get a star The star punch could high damage but lower knockback (it can still kill, but maybe around 90%). He could just lose stars based on damage instead of getting hit.

As an add-on to the retooled down special, it'd be a nice touch if hitting a punch while a foe is in hit-lag earns him a guaranteed star. This would reflect how he actually earns them in his games, by waiting for his opponent to leave themself vulnerable right before or right after they attack.

Ooh, I LOVE that he earns more stars by hitting enemies during their endlag, that's perfect. The stars just *feel* more on-brand too. Weave and Counter looks super fun too. I love the idea of being in control of the counter, rather than it being a wait-and-hope thing. Fits the original games so nicely, and it's such a subtle change. Powering through moves with Smash Attacks is fun, but frustrating for opponents and definitely out of character. Really good changes.

Personally, I would've made it so his aerials have low knockback angles, high base knockback, and low scaling. These changes would set up tech chases. And you know where tech chases happen? That's right, on the ground! So instead of just being a no-jump man, he'd be a tech-chaser

I've been waiting for a Little Mac rework from you for a while now and I can comfortably say it was VERY worth the wait! Love that you decided to keep Mac's initial grounded playstyle intact while giving him quality of life improvements to help him stand a better chance in the air. And I'm SO happy you included the Star Mechanic and Star Punch! It's such a crime the Star Punch was nowhere in Mac's moveset despite it being iconic in the Punch-Out games, so I'm glad you decided to fill that void.

One thing I'd make sure to change for Mac's colors would be to actually give him the correct hair style for his Super Punch-Out color scheme. It's minor, sure, but it should've been done to make the reference more noticeable. Otherwise it's just normal Lil Mac with blue shorts and lighter hair.

I'd love to see a remake of Palutena's moveset: her kit itself isn't the problem for me, I actually think most of it is fine, but it really doesn't convey her personality most of the time. I'd have loved to see a Neutral B where she tosses a vegetable in reference to the Kid Icarus special, for example, so I can't wait to see what you could come up with :)

Tbh the outfighter approach from how his games work I can see why you’d make that assumption but those who play the games would also know that there’s much more.. aggressive methods of dealing with the fights, which may be why the base design paints him as an in boxer, and honestly considering it’s basis it likely fits more. Out boxers are usually characterized by those with long, lanky limbs. In boxers are usually characterized by those with shorter, but more powerful strikes 3 guesses which type Mac fills and the first 2 don’t count

Tbf the current incarnation likely takes more inspiration from super punch out, and if you played that game or see any speed runs the fights were just full on aggression and are much more fast paced than normal, proven even further by the fact it’s the k.o meter from said game (tho by that logic it would likely be more fitting to reward it more from landing hits than getting hit)

As a Little Mac main, really nice! I'll admit I was skeptical at first but shifting the playstyle from just swinging your fists around to be more bob and weave is great! Changing his K.O. Punch to be based on the star system is an obvious choice that I feel was handled really well! Most people tend to go too far with it or barely change it at all but I feel your's was a nice balance. Lots of nice quality of life changes for Mac like his Haymaker resetting hit, his Up B letting you angle it and his side tilt allowing you to choose the second punch or not. I personally REALLY like what you did with Weave Counter, making it a sort of roll but with a twist. Depending on it's animation I can imagine lots of people going in to punish Macs "Roll" only to find out it wasn't a roll at all and get hit by the counter punch. I'm not knowledgeable in the numbers to give an opinion on that stat changes but it seems good to me, making it easier for the short bursts to compliment the playstyle you were aiming for. If I had to give one complaint, I think it would be on the emphasis on comparing Mac to other fighting game characters. I like that Mac stands out and "doesn't belong" if that makes sense. I don't want him homogenized with other fighting game character standards too much that he loses something. Obviously I don't know how this reworked Mac would feel to play without actually playing it. Overall, great job! I love it!

Honestly i dont see a problem with having some character moves being smash original. I dont think ive ever seen Bowser do "Flying Slam", or Villager using "Balloon Trip" in their own series. Its better off being original if theres no other option and still fits the character. Thats not to say Little Mac is perfect with his neutral B (i like the concept shown in the video), but being a smash original move shouldnt necessarily be bad.

To say that Mac “doesn’t” use the KO punch is one of those technically true but meaningfully irrelevant things. Sure, technically Mac isn’t in Super Punch Out, but the KO punch does come from the franchise (even if it acts closer to a Star Punch in Smash)

As THE guy that had a horrible time dealing with the community just because of how Mac plays and me maining him for all his time he is in the series, you did a fantastic job and I desperately need these changes on him now. It sucks that his current moveset (along with Banjo-Kazooie also being overly weak) made me mad for an entire decade and was left very disappointed in Nintendo, and more so the Smash community just because of how brutally unfairly mean they have been to me. I'm very happy you did this episode right, even if I want more (lol) this is perfect enough. I wish my favorite video game character the best treatment next game. (and if he gets removed my rage will never go away, like really, if they remove the Nintendo fighting game character from the next Smash game I will never forget that sin)

This is a great remake, but it would’ve been cool if you had it so that if Little Mac is selected, Doc Louis would be in the background of the stage, working like how Pokemon Trainer currently does. Also, in my eyes the best way to remake Lucina would be to literally just give her Chrom’s moveset, so I’m interested to see how you would de-clone her.

I imagine Lucina could be something of a hybrid between a sword specialist (like most FE lords) and a master-of-arms (like Bylelth). Give her Chrom's up special, which she near-perfectly imitates him using when they duelled in canon, then mix some of her other moves up with lances, javelins, and bows, all weapons she's been shown to be proficient with across her many appearances.

Let’s see if this multi-time boxing champion can bring himself back to the ring with some fire. A bit odd to bring up giving Little Mac gaining battle damage as he fights, since… I’m pretty sure he already has that? The new alt colors seem cool though. The New Down Special sounds pretty cool, a lot more interesting than his current counter. Maybe it could have a specific timing mechanic, where if you dodge an attack with it at a specific time, you’d get a star for the Neutral-B.

Superb, really love how you've improved him! I would also have given him an alt costume based on the _Super Punch-Out!!_ version of Little Mac - no shirt, shaggier blonde hair and the blue trunks, red/white boots and green gloves - but other than that, it's pretty much all there. When it comes to the Patreon Vote, *Mewtwo* would be my pick for the next one if I could vote, although Link would be my second pick. Hell, even after that, you could also improve Lucina by just removing her from the game entirely!

I absolutely love Punch-Out, I think this reworked move set is just the boost Mac needs. The fundamentals of his current move set are solid, but the super armor and lack of emphasis on the ol' dodge-and-counter strategy the games are known for makes him feel more like one of his opponents than himself.

Maybe an popular opinion. But I don't find Mac bad at all. He is not underwhelming, none of that. He is just easy to camp and promote an unfun playstyle against him. Unfun for both players. Mac does not need to be stronger. And his polarisé gameplay shouldn't be hindered by camping him. Mac has a strong community. A clear design. Strength and weaknesses. And what everyone agrees one even above him being weak. Is that you can just camp him. I wouldn't change anything in his kit. Except ko meter. And make his dodges better. He should have specific, stronger dodges. And his ko meter should build up and be used more naturally and often. Every move landed add a star. Every 5 stars give a gold star. Being hit into knock back delete all regular stars. Having a gold star give your smashes armor. Using a special uses a gold star to increase their utility. For anti camping purposes. And make recovery slightly stronger. At 5 gold star you get a weaker ko punch but it uses every gold stars. And at 5 you get the full deal. Give or take. That's my idea. Ii could touch it in many ways. But I think emphesising dodging and counter attacking for building stars to prevent camping and help recovery is a good desig'. Now to achieve that goal this might not be the exact meter system. But the idea is more correct to the games. And less polariséd.

Overall, I agree with the direction you've taken with Mac - a weave and punish play style is absolutely what would suit him best. I will say that I think I would more finely-tune the nature of the stars, to centralize the aim of this play style. Rather than sometimes getting them from taking or giving damage, I'd consider making them explicitly reliant on baiting and reacting to attacks with his smash attacks and down b. Have a mechanic in place where a registered opposing hitbox is what initiates the potential star, and then have the follow-up blow deliver it. This might require there to be more than three stars stored in Mac's kit, or might require a different scaling measure for how strong his neutral b is - but making the stars reliant on bait would streamline his game plan in an even more enjoyable way. Good work all around!

I got to admire your dedication to research the character and sport. My idea for a remake was to emphasis all his air attacks to involve kicks and change his appearance to make his look more like an MMA fighter. My idea for a recovery was summoning a monkey bar to swing in circles before launching yourself.

You did very good! This I think would work very well and be as faithful as you could be to the original games. I'm afraid he'd still be quite lobsided but I suppose that's unavoidable if you want to stick with his general design philosphy. There are aome optional routes you could go with him though. One route is to completely rework him and sort of "Captain Falconize" his moveset. Make up a bunch of cool extraordinary abilities that'd be more combo-heavy. Or, give him moves and abilities from his opponents in his franchise. I imagine a second reveal trailer for him where all the boxers want to help him represent the boxer legacy in Smash and decide to teach him their signature moves (and cheats).

I always thought of Little Mac as a character who used the three major Boxing styles with outboxing being typical gameplay which quickly shifts into swarming the opponent once he slips into an opening on them. I think Smash did a good job at representing this swarmer punching style to Mac that we see in his games as it common for him pelt the other boxers with punches once given the opportunity while out boxers while only strike occasionally using their reach advantage often. He also has some bruiser in him as he winds up powerful punches for heavy damage which is a risk only bruiser boxers make. I think Mac best represents a mixture of swarmer and out boxer in my opinion.

Here’s some things I’d add: • Taunts could be his healing animations for when the opponent is knocked down in Punch Out Wii, and MAYBE heal very low (Fraction of 1%) per taunt as a little notch to the game. • Increased range on side B and Neutral B • Neutral special should be an uppercut no matter what, but depending on how many stars you get, you do more damage and knockback. It’d make for a good (semi) recovery option if you have no stars. Just like in the game, no matter how many stars you have (Unless it’s zero) you can throw a star punch that gets stronger the more stars you collect • Taking damage should not give you stars, it should remove them. If it removes all of them like it does in Wii, the star punch would have to be insanely op to compensate. If it’s just one per attack like Mike Tyson’s Punch Out, then it can just be what it should be. • His counter should be like a cancellable Sephiroth’s that still activates the counter if you get hit. Or it could just stay the same but with adjustments to make it more useful. It could be a counter that grants you a star or two guaranteed if you use it. And if you counter when the star gauge is full, it’ll be a counter 3 star punch. • Don’t change the alts • Make Little Mac Happier. Seriously, he’s way too angry. Little Mac gets excited when he wins. Little Mac acts like Piston Hondo in this game, and it’s horrible characterization. Make him happier with taunts, win screens, and maybe intros. • His final smash should be a cinematic. He should still become Giga Mac, but the series of punches he’d do would he the exact same combo that he does in the Punch Out Wii intro with a star punch at the end • One of his win screens should be like Joker’s where he’s running with Doc Louis, it’d be such a cool touch •For the love of god add new music. He has 5 tracks. That’s less than half the amount of unique character themes from Wii, like come on • Fix Boxing Ring, please. Make it where the crowd throws you back into the ring cuz walk offs are bad game design and make the stage lights at the top higher up and bigger so it gives you more room to fight on and not kill your opponent at like 20% • Add Aran Ryan, SUPER MACHO MAN, Great Tiger, or Soda Popinski you cowards • Add the rest of the Wii characters to the spirits at least. And make Both Sandman and Macho Man legendaries • Give Donkey Kong his Punch Out Wii gloves for an alt PLEASE

I disagree on the neutral B and the star system, it should be just like the games, gain a star each time you punish an attack on start-up or recovery, and lose them all when you get hit, then the neutral B is a charge punch with no stars, and a star punch using all your stars. And the three stars punch is a instant kill. This would make him feel more closely to the games where you have to observe and learn the enemy's patterns

I always thought it would be cool if Little Mac borrowed a few moves from his fellow boxers although I suppose that might limit the possibility of other Punch-Out characters joining the roster. I like this approach too though. I especially like the Star KO mechanic feeding into the Final Smash. That's a really cool idea and I wish more characters did stuff like that.

A simpler idea I have for Mac's down special is a mix between his current Slip Counter and his Dash Counter custom from Smash 4, with him performing the latter instead of the former if the control stick is tilted forward during the counter window.

Prob wouldn’t fit the kit but I think it would be fun if Mac’s up special was a tether grab using a glove flail inspired by Aran Ryan. Off stage he can use it to recover more safely. On stage, he can yoink opponents too high up down to his level.

The Star Punches could've used the different animations his KO Punch had in the previous games but with different levels of power 1 Star: Standard Uppercut from Smash 4 2 Star: Jumping Uppercut as it is now in Ultimate 3 Star: Could be a supped up variant of his Up Special. That IS his max Star Punch move in the Wii game after all.

For the star meter mechanic, I’d say a star should also be gained by hitting opponents on their startup frames as well since a lot of opportunities for stars from Wii punch out are gained by hitting your opponent before they hit you

Things i dont like: Up smash and Up angle fsmash serve different purposes, up smash is a frame 10 out of shield move, good for killing random dash attacks, while uppercut is a giant anti air with less KB You didnt address a weakness of KO punch/stars, mac loses straight lunge, a frame 1 armor move, good for escaping multihit based juggling Also, dash attack was a great anti air, mac can dash ftilt or dash upsmash for kills so this new dash attack would be redundant Things i did like: Trading armor for aerials, less polarizing, closer to the other sakurai stated ground fighters Jolt haymaker buff, i wouldnt give it the weird nerf thing but overall good Bob n weaves, cool idea, scuffed in air makes sense, not sure if itd work well Shorter initial dash is good, id go further and give mac shorter rolls to set up easier whiff punishes Air accel buff, what the char actually needs, and/or a small fall speed reduction Stars, yeah rewarding mac for whiff punishes n stuff direcrly is great, and is less polarizing Overall, pretty good, way less polarizing but could fix some redundancy and itd be gold

I feel like the Down B is the only part i fully disagree with because it sounds too exploitable for characters with actual range like a sword character, Bowser's forward smash or a projectile. What I'd probably do as a suggestion is either make his counter kinda like Joker's where it builds his resource, the Stars, and still has the counter hit, albeit not really strong anymore and the strength of the move counters gives you more stars or, have the counter put them in a crumple state like Ridley's skewer to set up for a follow up.

@@amadeus.7436 the difference to me is that those moves send you forwards, provide burst movement and still lead to attacks, more in line with Jolt Haymaker than this weaving option

@@Err0_Will The weaving option isn't that different. It isn't a burst option sure but it's essentially a movement option that can be cancelled into much more than just one attack. Just performing the dodge and then going into a forward smash would also work. Or into down-tilt and side-special.

Sakurai does not believe in giving characters new moves since most characters from previous games tend to have the exact same special moves they already had with a few exceptions I just wish characters in this damn seris got more variety of moves then they have.. a lot of characters moveset just feel so limited

I dig the changes here. I think my only issues are the Neutral special maybe being a tad overloaded (not sure if the 1-star use is necessary and I can see people wasting stars by mistake when they should be going for Star KO punches), and the F-smash looking to be really similar to down special (both cause you to dodge back so you can punish the spot you were just in) The new Down Special is cool though and I appreciate fancying up the counter to something more stylish and aesthetically different from filling a similar function, so maybe just a small tweak to F-smash. I also like Star punch being used as a pseudo recovery in some cases; if you play well, you can get another chance at the cost of needing to build up the Star again.

I'm a little surprised you said Little Mac was an outfighter, since I've seen people like Designing For argue that he's an infighter in how he's gotta make the most of every opening. Still, I really liked this moveset!

As a Mac Main, the More and More I play him, the more I don't mind how he plays, while he can be very Aggressive, Particular Mac players Play the Character very much like a Bait and Punish, observing their Opponents Attacks, and it also fits one more particular thing People tend to forget about Little Mac: He's an Underdog Character. It makes total Sense for him to have such a Huge Disadvantage, cause he already has one in his own Game, In Punch Out, its the fact he has low range, and has to rely on dodging and counter attacking. In Smash, Air Game is Important, and it's oretty on brand that he wouldnt realistically be Good in the Air. I do like your Rework, though, It does fit him well, too.

Mac should be able to consume a star to boost his Jolt Haymaker and Rising Uppercut to gain more distance.

For someone that loves playing little mac. It isn't want I enjoy playing him for. Buttt it is actually a pretty cool moveset anyways. Feels more accurate to the source material and would be cool to have a more movement oriented moveset for him even if it shifts his balance from a ground favored fighter to slightly more all around.

Despite loving any of the fighter you mentioned, may I suggest a completely new fighter to get remade? Mii sword-fighter Maybe not the entire moveset, but I’ve always found the specials really weird, and I’d like to see a new (more fundies) moveset for him.

Mac is a in boxer out bakery tend to be lankyer and longer ranged keeping opponents away while inboxes are fast and try to get into there effective range to deal damage and if you couldn't tell that basically describes punch out

If I were to change anything in this rework... -I'd swap the King Hippo alt with the gray alt that Mac officially had. -I would change up the animations of forward aerial and down throw. They both look baffling IMO. Other than that, Little Mac but he's competitively viable LESGOOO

Moving forward, you should trim the number of counter specials, as there's too many and thus it's repetitive. King K. Rool's belly counter is one that can be trimmed, as it isn't a thing in canon.
