Welcome to another episode of Challenger Approaching! In this series, we cover characters who might be invited to a future entry of Super Smash Bros, then go into deep into detail on how they could be designed if they joined the roster for real!
Our Challenger this time is someone who actually gets brought up pretty often in Smash talk nowadays! Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was one of Nintendo's big new titles last year, seeing critical acclaim and commercial success alike. As both prior (numbered) Xenoblade titles have a playable fighter, it's little surprise that fans all but expect someone from the newest game to appear as a newcomer when the next Smash game happens. While dual protagonists Noah and Mio are both discussed, I thought it best to cover them one at a time so each has their chance to shine.
Noah's going first, so how could he surpass his "anime swordfighter" status and stand out as a newcomer? And how could he draw inspiration from the MANY quirks and mechanics of Xenoblade 3's combat and character builds to create something unique yet cohesive? Watch and find out!

God, I would love that! Also, I know it wasn't mentioned, but I think Noah should have his white flute that he gained from Mio when they exchanged flutes except in his Mio and Kevesi Alts where he has the black flute (Mio's colors being because that's the flute he gave to her and the Kevesi alt because it would be before he met Mio) If Mio has a Noah skin and her Agnian clothes in her video I think a similar thing should happen except obviously with her black flute.

Victory Screen Ideas: 1. Noah plays the Kevesi off-seer melody on his flute, eyes closed in peaceful calm, glad for the fight to be over. (Would be nice if this one overrode the victory screen music) Bonus: If Mio is on his team, the two will play a duet together, specifically the duo version of 'A Life Sent On'. 2. Noah dematerialises the Veiled Sword, sighing with a hand pressed to his chest, before extending it out in welcome towards the camera, presumably extending a helping hand to his opponent, now that the fight is over. As he extends his hand, he says "Hope I didn't do too much harm." 3. Noah unleashes Lucky Seven from the Veiled Sword, swinging it a few times with slashes so quick they leave trails of light in the air. After those slashes are finished he sheathes Lucky Seven, muttering "Until we can move forward" as he holds the blade to his hip. Victory Quotes: Vs Mio: "I'm sorry Mio. I wish I didn't have to fight you." Team with Mio 1: Mio: "That's how you pull of a win!" Noah: "Yeah, let's see if we can keep this up." Team with Mio 2: Noah: "Nothing a bit of teamwork couldn't handle!" Mio: "Whatever happened to not being careless?" Vs Shulk: "Queen Melia spoke highly of you. I can see why." Vs Pyra/Mythra: "The Aegis? You're friends of Queen Nia?."

Given how Xenoblade's popularity skyrocketed over the years, Noah's a done deal to be in the next Smash. I've wanted him since I first seen the Xenoblade 3 trailer. Your take on him seems like a cross between Shulk and Cloud with the chargeable Arts.

@@Yusei255 Try telling that to folks like Delzethin, because nothing seems to stop him for making movesets or hypothesizing what the next game could be like, and his friends who enjoys the content he makes. Also, honestly, do you REALLY think Nintendo is dumb enough to just drop Smash after all the hype and money it got from Ultimate? New game, port, reboot, Smash ain't gonna stop, especially if there are characters people want to see in the game.

Not necessarily, he was originally planned to be playable but then hardware issues didn't let them bring the idea they originally had in mind. Though that said, I feel your pain and I really hope they can add Rex to Pyra and Mythra like they originally planned in a future Smash, provided it happens and is possible with whatever newer hardware.

In short, assuming they're able to make the original idea work, adding his XC2 self might be easier, mainly because he already has an existing Smash model of that.

VERY nicely done! I've heard a lot of people say that Noah would be way too similar to Shulk, but that Class Change system clearly says otherwise! If we had to pick one of them, I would still probably pick Mio over Noah. But I would main either one of them pretty much the *instant* they're revealed. I'm definitely looking forward to Mio's Moveset video just as much as I was for Noah! By the way, if anyone is reading this and hasn't played Xenoblade Chronicles 3, I strongly recommend you do! It didn't get nominated for Game of the Year for nothing.

I like your take on his moveset. Me personally, I think I would make him a bit quicker and get him more of a Marth/Lucina feel with a bit more range, since I feel like we already have Shulk who has a lot of range and already has a sort of defensive footsie playstyle, and it would give Noah a bit more sauce.

Love how Noah's moveset is translated here. I honestly appreciate how Lanz and Eunie's Arts are incorporated into his moveset, even if in the actual game Noah couldn't use all three classes' arts due to inherited arts having to be the opposite type of the class equipped (in this case Agnian arts on a Kevesi class), but that's just nitpicking on my part. Can't wait to see Mio's video later on and see how you integrate Taion and Sena's arts into her moveset.

I came up with a concept for Eunie, one of Noah's most trusted friends instead because Noah fills too similar a niche to Shulk. Basically, her smash attacks are role arts, and specials are Master Arts. By holding B during a Smash attack, they can be fused to combine effects in exchange for greater end lag. Here's the list Up: Wide Slash -> Vortex Side: Overfall -> Myopic Screen Down: Maximum Voltage -> Power Ring Each move has an effect. Wide Slash grants intangibility, Vortex heals slightly on impact, Overfall lowers enemies' defense, Myopic Screen has good hitstun, Maximum Voltage grants better launch power if you can get the whole animation off without getting hit, and Power Ring grants increased damage if you hit someone with it. Neutral special is just Ether Canon. Final Smash is brilliant ascension.

I'm not sure how I feel about an entire Arts Palette, but using a meter for the neutral special to switch between Ground Beat and Infinity Blade is an idea that I like. Myopic Screen should have a very long hit-stun or should make the target dizzy due to it inflicting Daze. I kind of want to see Final Lucky Seven just to see it inflict the full Smash combo in... Smash. First hit has a prolonged stun; second hit forces a tumble or trip; third hit launches straight upward a little with fixed knockback (so it can chain into the 4th hit); fourth hit spikes straight down; fifth hit makes the same transcendent shockwave as Infinity Blade, just to catch anyone else nearby who wasn't caught in the combo.

I would love to see Noah and/or Mio in the next Smash game, whether that be an updated port of Ultimate or a completely new game. This move concept was really cool! Rex/Pyra was my most wanted character for Smash Ultimate so I was happy enough to get Pyra/Mythra eventually as DLC so would love Noah to get a chance in the next game as much as a lot of non RPG fans will be annoyed at "another sword fighter"

I’d personally give Noah a meme taunt like what Shulk & Mythra have, but this is otherwise great. With that said, I’d probably still go for Mio as the XB3 rep since her weapon is completely unique to the point where you wouldn’t have to overlap with Shulk (in Noah’s case) or the Aegis girls in any way. My dream scenario would be Taion with Eunie assists, but we sadly don’t live in that timeline.

@@Cool-Vest_Leo NoE usually goes out of their way to get ethnically accurate actors for Xenoblade 3 roles, and they got a Black actor for Taion. That plus he has East African features, albeit stylized. With that said, I’m pretty sure Xenoblade 3 has a South Asian character with one of the heroes you meet. I forgot her name, but she’s the one who had to fight her entire colony & had a moment with Eunie. That aside, you forgot about Min Min, Smash’s first Chinese character.

Since you're expanding on the possibilities in future movesets I won't begrudge it too much now, but... Compared to the previous Xenoblade characters we have in Smash, this moveset is very, VERY tame. Also, why settle for recolors when the entire job system is about swapping outfits? I expect him to at least carry Eunie and Lanz's outfits as whole costume changes.

I hope that if Noah or Mio is added then I hope they get the upgraded forms of their blades and their Moebius counterparts. Noah and Mio's weapons specifically look really cool after upgrading them in the nopon quest and are slightly more similar to N and M.

i like the move Design. i can say that this character would be FAR TO MID for him to be good (top mid tier). when range based charactetrs like samas have frame 3 out of sheilds, and characters like pikachu who has good low percent killing smash attacks with low endlag. I could go on and on, but this character has nothing really good going for him. timed specials are also an absolute pain. just let somethings be slightly busted. i also think noah should have faster attack (other than just jab).

Giga Bowser and Ganon could also work as bosses. Giga Bowser, being a bigger and stronger version of Bowser, also uses fire attacks, and Ganon's boss arena is surrounded by flames

One small detail I thought of: I was wondering how Noah would get past the thing where his weapons so long he can’t just hold it out like he usually does, hence why the other XC characters don’t, but also he can’t like put it on his back. I like the idea of his idle stance being him holding his sword in the sheathe stance like he does in his official art. It’s not technically how he fights but it does mean he can still have it out and I mean it would look really cool.

XD I like that not only have you made a full on Moveset for one of the main characters from Xenoblade 3 as a potential Smash newcomer, you even have plans for his partner Mio as well as one for both her, and Noah together as a team in future Challenger Approaching videos! :D Nice work on building up Noah's Moveset from his game along with him using weapons from his other allies from said game for variety while also making sure it's not broken! Worth the wait! No idea who the next one will be. Probably Masquernya since it's from a much more well known franchise with 2 recent games that clearly needed to be tested for over a year, maybe even 2 before release (not that Game Freak really gives a damn these days anymore, just want that sweet, sweet moolah, like a LOT of greedy corporations nowadays), but of course of the 3 chosen ones any of them could appear in the next video, and I look forward to it, as the next regular video!

Very cool to see this come out at last, and I really liked how you went about this. I was impressed with how much Noah was able to draw from, and I think you did well implementing Lucky Seven and his Ouroboros form. They all mesh well. Looking forward to how Mio is gonna be done. Though the mention of if they'd actually make one or both of the off seers playable made me wonder a semi unrelated hypothetical thing: If Rex were to get featured on this channel again, would he be his own CA video or would he be a "Remake it", considering what the original plans were? I know there's his Future Redeemed counterpart now, but at the same time, that would be repping XC3 if that version of him got in, and considering he already has a Smash designed model in Ultimate that they could use as a base in the future, I wanna say he'd be easier to develop.

This is one of my favorites you’ve made! Can’t wait for Mio! Some ideas I thought you could’ve referenced Flame Clock Cutter: the powered up version of Air Slash could reference his jump slash when he destroys a Flame Clock. Has surprising power and range but only one slash at the end of the dash Attack cancelling: using a special move at the moment a normal attack hits gives a small boost in damage/knockback to any special move and a small burst of charge for the art gauges Healing Ring/Vortex: in addition to the field buff, the powered version of Power Ring could do small damage to enemies around the user and healing based on the damage to enemies from the Vortex. Additionally the field regens 1% healing per second as long as Noah is in the field Solid Stance: the powered version of Variable Turret could give a reduced knockback and increased defense for 6ish seconds which helps reduce the impact of being punished.

This was a banger!! Can’t wait for the Mio video, I think she’d be a way better choice for Smash. Her twin ring weapons would make for a way cooler moveset. And her being an evasion tank can mean she has super fast run, air, and fall speed like Sheik and Fox. Making her moves come out super fast and with minimal post-attack lag would be really fitting for her. She literally talks about how fast she can do a 100 meter run in the game. And bringing in her off-seeing flute and super sick KOS-MOS inspired Ouroboros form of course, has to be thrown in there as the final smash or as special moves or something

I personally feel the recently announced Noah and Mio amiibo's are gonna be Smash amiibos. 89 fighters feels one short. Creator has Xenoblade bias, it feels odd that they are making Xenoblade amiibos so long after the game and dlc let alone making a NEW amiibo line in 2023. I think Noah and Mio are gonna be revealed as a stand alone final fighter pair. That or we are getting an X port and the amiibo will unlock stuff in that.

My idea for how Noah/Mio could work in Smash is a little like Pyra/Mythra. The only difference is you don't change character, but rather change weapon. So if you choose Noah and were to press down b (common for transform characters), Noah instead wears Mio's jacket and her Zephyr rings, giving him a different moveset. Who you choose to play as on the character select screen determines which weapon class you'll start with. Yeah it's pretty similar to Pyra/Mythra mechanically speaking but I feel like Noah and Mio are inseparable as characters.

Idk why, but I had the idea of Unlimited Sword being used for his final smash instead. I imagined it being Tachyon Slash and ending off with Final Lucky 7. I also had the idea that if he hit someone who was in the air, the final smash would spike them so hard that if they were off-stage when they got hit, they wouldn’t be coming back. A bit broken, I know, but that’s what Lucky Seven is. Broken.

I would have all of our Ouroboros squad as skins of the same slot. They would all fight different with the exception of the Final Smash, and that is slightly different for each character. We could even get Concol N and M as skins 7 and 8.

You know what would be cool. If a xenoblade character's moves dealt applied break, topple, launch and then smash. They would last about 10 seconds each and the timer would get reset upon landing the next one. You could have forward tilt afflict break Side special be shield bash which topples. Up tilt could be sena's hammer which launches Side B would be ethel's smash move.

What I’d do for Xenoblade 3 representation, would be have Noah/Mio tag team, Noah’s Final Smash is Infinity Blade, he uses his Ouroboros form to connect the hit, and if it hits, it does his Break/Topple/Launch/Smash on everyone hit. It bounces opponents against the floor (untechable), like Steve’s down throw. If the opponent was hit off-stage, it spikes, and the move has a bit of pushback so that if someone was hit barely on the ledge it will get the spike. Mio’s final smash is a hit with her ouroboros form, then a switch to Noah’s, and ending in her Ouroboros form, like her chain attack finisher Noah’s final smash does a ton more damage but due to the floor hit knockback isn’t incredible, unless it’s a spike in which case it’s very very incredible (since Launched Smash typically just sends an opponent back to the ground) Mio’s final smash is less damage but it sends opponents flying much further

For the Final Smash, when the Origin Sword is drawn out, have it do some minor AOE Damage in front of him to narrow down Who get's hit in the Big Finisher

This isn't a bad moveset, but I feel like you kinda just made Byleth again. As for what I'd personally do-- if Corrin can have the Omega Yato, Noah can have Lucky Seven drawn by default. Go all-in on being a proper katana fighter while packing his four offensive arts, with a similar talent art gimmick but it's a stunning/shield break hit into a trip into a launcher into a spike that has an extended landing hitbox in front of him (break > topple > launch > smash). He's got plenty to pull from, and you can borrow a fair bit from N as well.

Great job! I would pick zero mainly because the Megaman series could use more rep (hoping you do X and Megaman EXE in the future) and I feel that I kinda predict Alear moveset. Alears normal attack have them use thier sword and thier Smash attacks actually uses the Smash blade, great axe and heavy Lance. But when engage, Alear would use Leif main weapons as attacks. Thier air specials would have them summon Micaiah for her light magic attacks and Alears grabs would have them use those scroll techniques. Alears netural special would be Lyn Astra Storm where they fire off 5 homing arrows. Thier side special would be Sigurd’s Moutenm ability where Alear zip around the stage with a powerful lance attack. Thier Up special would be Celica’s Warp Ragnarok where Alear teleports(Similar to Mewtwo) and reappears with a AOE flame explosion. Thier Down special would be Twin Strike where Alear summons Ephrim above the oppponent and pins them while Alear and Erika attack at different sides. Meowscarada’s moveset I feel depends on the new anime.

I haven't watched the video yet, but something kinda clicked with me. So, I know nothing about Xenoblade Chronicles, let alone the third entry, but I remember a video that Pizzadudemanguy made on the duo of Eva and Neil which had an interesting tag team gimmick. Maybe it could work here depending on if it just so happens to line up with XC3's mechanics. One follows the other, akin to an Ice Climber, but is intangible. One of the Specials could have you switch between them, swapping which one is intangible, but can only be used if the one you aren't playing is actionable.

I want to see all of the Main Party characters from Xenoblade Chronicles 3. They just have to make all of them the same height as Noah. All of their attacks are base from Hero Attacks. Their Final Smash is them as Mobius.

@@NintendoSegaGuys X came out globaly on december 2015, Was out in japan since april 2015. smash wii u dlc finished feburary 3rd 2016. So seeing Elma as dlc could have been a possibility, seeing as X was one of the biggest wii u titles at the time

Mio also is the first pure chakram user, unlike Min Min who sometimes uses chakrams but only uses their ARMs and a reflector backflip for attack.

Probably because it would be more unique, and because a huge part of XC3 are Ouroboros, which needs two characters to perform. I wouldn't mind either way tbh, as long as we have some nice XC3 representation

I would like his down b to be the lucky 7. Build up charges like cloud, but it will slowly run out when you hold the blade and will return as soon as the charges runs out. So that when he had the blade on he get different moves for the specials
