law of demand : law of demand states the inverse relationship between price and quantity demanded , keeping other factors constant it is also known as first law of purchase . examples : price incress , qd decreases price decreases , qd increases in addition - demand schedule + demand curve assumptions : no change in other factots 🌺 reasons for law of demand * law of diminishing marginal utility *income effect - income effect refers to effect on income when real income of the consumer changes due to change ni price of the commodity income is classified in two types money income - in terms of money like my income is 40 rs real income - in terms of commodity * substitution effect - refers to substituting one commodity in place of other when it becomes relatively cheaper example coke and pepsi * additional customers -when price of the commodity falls , many new customers who were not in a position to buy earlier, start purchasing it . old customers also demanding more due to its reduced price. * diffrent uses - some commodities like milk have several uses . if price of such a good increases , consumer restricted their demand to most important purpose and vice versa example - milk 🌺 exeptions of law of demand ✔️ giffen goods - inferior goods , whose demand increases due to increase in price and demand decreases due to decrease in price in the earlier of 18th century , sir robert giffen observe price of the bread 👆 demand for bread by low wage earners👆 because with rise in price of the goods they forced to cut their consumption of meat and any other expensive food items because it becomes relatively cheaper ✔️ status symbol goods ✔️ fashion related goods ✔️ fear of shortage ✔️ignorance ✔️necessitied
