You need to release an updated version of this for the new cascadia

My company has disabled manual mode for some insane reason. I’ve been driving a D12 for 5 years that had manual mode and I loved it on mountains. For steep downgrades I would typically put it in 9th or 10th gear in manual mode and use the engine brakes and it would pretty much maintain the desired speed without using the service brake. In this video it talked about controlling descent speed by engaging engine brake and then setting cruise control to desired speed but I seem to remember the cruise control not working with the engine brake on. I’ll probably have to quit this job over this.

Man, that just sucks. I'm the shop supervisor at a government agency and I actually turn up the road speed for my folks. I used to drive those trucks so I know exactly how they feel being stuck at 60 MPH!!

I’m driving a 2018 cascadia right now and it’s a thing of beauty. Such an easy truck to learn on and lots of nice features that make it a babe to drive. XD

your not actually learning how to drive then. nothing more then a rolling PCM that takes care of itself. im driving a 2006 peterbilt 386 day cab 18 speed C15 cat pulling a milk tanker. gross weight 100K, i love that older truck.... so mechanical compared to the newer stuff, i wish it was even older. give me a rebuilt mid 90's with a cat 3046

andrew donohue well I’m a company driver, and this is the truck I’ve been handed. I can’t do anything about it .~. I’ve driven 13 speed2004 freightliner Classic xl and it was a beauty to drive as well.

@@DanMillerXYZ I've driven commercial vehicles and large off-road equipment since the early 90's. Until I bought the used Crashcadia that I'm currently running; I never drove automatics, for anything other than moving trucks 20 miles to and from a dealership for my last company. Next year I'm dumping this for a truck equipt with an Eaton-Fuller 18-speed. I do not trust the DT12 in my 15 Freightliner, nor do I like the way it shifts in either economy or performance modes.

People who say that you're not a real truck driver if you don't drive a manual are stuck in the old times. I love both for different reasons. The manual clutch gives off more options but is a killer on your leg. The automatic is way more smooth and easier to drive. I prefer an atm because it's the best of both worlds, and it's way more easier than relying on focusing on shifting, especially in traffic. Get with the times, dinosaurs.

After 3 years of driving and now owning a fleet of both manuals and automatics I retract my statements and report that manuals are much better and give you a far better degree of control over autos. Autos are extremely finicky, are terrible for reversing or parking. Sometimes they don’t want to respond even in gear and the amount of repairs outweighs the pros over a manual. A clutch may go out but you can always find a way to get it in gear and at least to a shop. An XY shifter goes out on an auto and you’re stuck on the side of the road waiting for a tow. So after 3 years manuals pull better, control better. And honestly most of my fleet is manual now for a reason. Few pros to auto over a manual other than it’s nice to have an auto in traffic.

I drive a 2015 Crashcadia with a 505 hp 1750 ft-lb engine. My problem with Eco mode is that when I bought the truck with 473,000 miles on it the engine oil pressure when coasting was lower than any of the seven DD15 equipt trucks I had driven before. After getting the oil pump O-rings replaced in February the oil pressure is reading pretty much what I got at 320,000 miles in the last truck I drove as a company driver. If I could change anything about the truck from a standpoint of drivetrain I'd like an override button for the coast mode in Eco mode.

Awesome video! It's the only one that helped me find exactly what I was searching for. However, I find that the (P) in the Volvo's is much more efficient and affective, especially when empty.

My work has blocked out performance mode. It won’t go into that mode at all. Any way to bypass so I can get it other than using a computer? I find accelerating into the freeways very slow. Sometimes I’m trying to merge into traffic that’s doing 60-70 mph and I can only get to 30-40 mph. I find it dangerous. A few more mph would be great.

its not horrible if its paired with a powerful motor. eco mode shifts way to low rpm to keep heavy loads moving. got to switch to manual in a hilly road situation or this trans will keep shifting up and down for no reason

Eco mode shifts way too LATE. Even totally empty it won't shift until 1500rpm no matter how gently the fuel pedal is applied. Should be shifting around 1100, 1200, 1300 etc. Absolutely no reason to keep the revs that high.

I don't know if it is the way Schneider programed the transmission, but if I turn on the engine brake with the cruise control on the transmission downshifts to 10th tach goes to 23 to 2400, my tractor is equipped with a tag axel so the drives start to chatter skid, this is a violent reaction to the engine brake being turned on. The drive tires only lasted 68680 miles. This tractor is a nightmare to bob tail on wet roads. I have been driving trucks since 1975, first automated transmission, gotta say it is a steep learning curve, but I still would rather have a clutch.

Hi K.D. Pearce. I found this video really interesting even though I have never driven a big rig. I had always heard that big trucks had to have a standard transmission because the weight of a trailer would cause an automatic transmission to snap or slip out of gear. But are there now big rigs with automatic transmissions? If so what are the advantages and drawbacks? Some input would be appreciated. Thanks...

I find that in the cruise control, if you have the engine breaks on, it'll down shift to your speed if you're going downhill too fast. However, it'll lower your speed if you're going regular or slower. So you can't keep it on while you're cruising. Pretty much a freightliner thing. I know that I am 5yrs late, but I'm just throwing it out there.

I think its pretty good but is there a way to change the default mode to Perform? It switches back to eco at the most inopportune times.

This video is all well and good, but it seems that every company truck I've driven has the manual and performance mode, locked out. This pretty much assures over revving the engine going down a decent hill.

Companies don't care about drivers or their safety. They only care about dollars signs. They act like they care for your safety, but all they are doing is covering themselves up from getting fined or in a financial situation such as being sued. Bringing it to your company's attention is a waste of time. They are there just to milk you of dollars.
