Every defender gambles, the difference is yes sometimes wemby can gamble or chase a block but it's because he does it so often and well that more times than he gambles, players just don't even try to shoot when he's in the area because they know he's going to attempt to block it. He might be the only player in history to have a mixtape of highlights that are just other teams stopping the ball on a 3-1 fast break advantage and kicking back out for a 3 point attempt because they're scared to attempt a layup when he's there.

The problem is they haven’t been giving it to the player with the best defensive performance. It has been given to the player of the team with the best defensive presence. Thats why Gobert is a 4 time DPOY but in none of those years was he close to being the best individual defender. If Wemby wins it, with a middle of the pack defense. As a Spurs fan, I watch almost all of their games and I agree. I have seen many times where he turns away 2 on 1 and 3 on 1 fast breaks because he is the one in the paint. I have not seen that happen on anyone else. I have also heard commentators saying the same thing and they are in more of a position to know because they watch more teams than I. Can't wait to see what kind of defender Wemby could be if he bulks up a little so he does not get pushed around as much by other bigs.

He alters shots, and completely causes teams to reset for 3s because they are afraid to get to the rum while Wemby is there. The defensive rating for the Spurs tanks when he rests or doesn't play.
