Many people put off preparation of their estate documents. If one of those procrastinators is developing dementia, you better take him or her to a lawyer as soon as possible even if you have to pay the fees yourselves. The person has to mke a convincing case of being of sound mind--the longer you wait, the less likely the person can be convincing. As a caretaker, you will have to have the health and financial POAs if you want health and financial institutions to take what you say seriously. I speak for experience, and I barely got everything done in time.
