I also think the 2020 droplet era was sort of compensation for not releasing music in 2019, and since a lot of songs got scrapped bc of the OD (love don’t let me go, say my name, etc.) the songs kind of “expired” and weren’t really options for an era 2-3 years later. That’s why demi collabed with marshmello again, making it’s ok not to be ok. They might’ve been planning to take a break after the tmylm tour and had a droplet era planned instead of an album in 2018 or 2019. That’s why they were on so many collabs, even if we never got to hear them as official releases (ldlmg, who do you love, etc.) After finishing the American leg of the tmylm tour in april 2018, i think that’s when Demi started writing darker songs, alluding to their struggles. It would make sense bc that’s also around the time they broke their sobriety, and would eventually cancel the rest of the european leg of the tour after becoming sick. Obviously alcohol lowers the immune system, and after 6 years of stone cold sobriety, it wouldn’t be easy on their body to all of a sudden start drinking and sneaking drugs. They also said the earliest song on DWTDTAOSO was written in february 2018, but I don’t think they ever said which one it was. Anyway, then we have the writer’s retreat, which i think was also demi’s 2018 trip to bora bora when they had that snapchat shown in the dwtd doc of them trying meth (i think) for the first time. There, they wrote sober, and my theory is that they also wrote Mistakes there, and probably recorded it in the same session as Sober, because they obviously were getting angry bc their eating disorder was getting bad again, which led to them relapsing in the first place and obviously they’d been told to keep it all secret bc it would ruin their image, so it explains where all the pent up anger comes from, especially in the lyrics “i dont understand the world. There, i said it, I’ll say it again.” It also aligns with the timeline of some of their closest friends and longtime team members suddenly disappearing. (Marissa, Mike Bayer, Lauren or Kelsey idk which one, & Iggy Azalea.) there are also lyrics from the same song that talk about “I thought friends last forever and love never ends.” And one part where demi says “i don’t know where everybody went” which all adds up. Anyway, then we get to 2019, where they were probably thinking of releasing, but had no label yet, only signing with scooter in the late spring/early summer of 2019. I think that when demi got bullied off the internet several times in 2019 (super bowl & after a specific vacation) those may have been the times where they relapsed in drugs, but that’s just me speculating and i’m probably wrong, but if i had to pick specific low points, that’s where i’d pin them. Anyway, since they had just signed on with scooter, they obviously couldnt release stuff from their old label/team bc they had the rights to it. So demi got to work, planning their comeback era for 2020. The beginning of 2020 was looking to be a flourish in Demi’s career. They had just made their big comeback at the GRAMMYs with Anyone and they performed the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Both performances received great acclaim from the general public, having the #1 trending youtube video of their grammy performance, and i cant remember which, but they were either #1 trending worldwide on twitter or they were the most searched topic of the grammys on google. Whichever one they were, they were in the #2 spot behind BTS in the other. Anyway, they were on the rise and everything was going great. Following praise of “the best National Anthem since Whitney Houston”, they dropped their buzz single, I Love Me. It didn’t do as well as expected, but the message was far more important and it was a happy song. They went on Ellen to explain what happened with their eating disorder and how that led to the OD, which provided insight as to why I Love Me was chosen as a single. Unfortunately, that’s where the story of the original D7 ends, because COVID came. I really do think COVID and a certain significant other changed everything in terms of D7. I think they were planning on making D7 an R&B album, with songs like It’s All Good. They obviously worked through a lot of their trauma over quarantine, helping them create songs like Melon Cake and Butterfly. But during that time, we also were stuck with Max, which definitely changed the course of the album, because now that Demi had found love, they weren’t going to make the album all about the dark parts of their time off. Had they stayed together, the album would’ve been quite different, probably causing Demi to credit Max with saving their life, which would just be a repeat of how they saw Wilmer. Luckily, that relationship didn’t last and whatever songs about Max that weren’t included on the album were scrapped or just never recorded. That’s how we got 15 minutes, still have me, etc. Meanwhile, during all of this, Demi is filming the DWTD documentary AND releasing a bunch of collabs. I think that this was in part due to quarantine messing up the original D7 era, and almost a way to hold lovatics over because they had no idea when quarantine was going to end, or what the album was going to be, since they probably had to scrap so many more songs than we realize, after taking into account the reactions to I Love Me, Demi literally being stuck in their house with their brand new boyfriend, getting engaged, breaking up, etc. So that explains why the droplet era was so back to back. It also allowed them to make up for lost time of course, and do collabs that wouldn’t fit on the album bc of how many songs they were already working with and were going to have to choose from. That led to the songs It’s All Good and Ain’t No Friend being scrapped. Those are the only ones I can think of off the top of my head that can be put in the same category of old friends/old team “diss tracks” post od. Anyway, during quarantine, still have me resurfaced. I’m pretty sure we knew about it in 2018 or 2019, but anyway it resurfaced in 2020 and most lovatics thought this meant we’d never get to have it be released in full. However, after breaking off an engagement to a borderline wackjob, we were blessed with Still Have Me, with a few lyric changes to fit the circumstances. Originally, it was written post OD (i think but idk) and was about how even though Demi lost a lot (friends & family passing away, friends & family leaving, losing their team and support system, losing faith in themselves, their literal vision at one point, their literal LIFE at one point, etc, etc.) they still had themself, someone resilient and who always knows just how wonderful they are. Obviously, after being lied and deceived, Demi probably recorded Easy, 15 Minutes, My Girlfriends Are My Boyfriend, and a scrapped song called Breathe. They also had a revelation in their identity, coming out to friends and family privately as non-binary before telling the public a year later. They also allowed themself to embrace their queerness after feeling like they were obligated to be with a straight cis man so that everyone approved and thought Demi had their life “back on track”. This is how the songs The Kind of Lover I Am, The Art of Starting Over, Met Him Last Night, and maybe even California Sober. All of the post-Ehpoor recordings took place in the autumn season. Then, we get to late 2020 to early 2021. After recording TAOSO, Demi or someone who worked on the album realized that there was a noticable shift in the timeline of the songs that were going to be on the album. They obviously couldn’t jump right into how they were california sober right after talking about their near-death experience. That’s how the keyboard smash album title was born. This led to track 4 being an intro. However, I think they took out a song last minute for one reason or another, because I expected 15 minutes to be track 15, but instead it’s track 14. Anyway, i like to think that Demi was basically like “Scooter, I’ve been through enough shit. I don’t care how long the title is, I don’t care if you think there’s too many songs. This is my truth and I’m not shortening or sweetening it for you or the public.” And that led to Scooter promoting Justin’s SECOND ALBUM in the same year (or within a year idk) instead of promoting Demi’s first album in 4 years. Obviously idc what Scooter does, but Demi isn’t going to overwork themself like they used to with their old team, so Scooter needs to step up and promote them like his other clients. Just bc Demi doesn’t necessarily enjoy red carpets or endless interviews, doesn’t mean they don’t care about the music. They just don’t need the approval of others anymore. Anyway, there’s my long, messy analysis that nobody’s going to read that I spent like, AT LEAST an hour on.

I think they had a whole different setup for tmylm, with all the scrapped songs about wilmer that were just too personal. That’s why they put the two more obvious ones (smoke & mirrors and ready for ya) on the target bonus edition, despite them being stronger than some of the songs on the official album. I also think their team played a role in tmylm being what it was, because i think it was supposed to mainly be about wilmer, but obviously an album full of ballads would not be the best move. They were actually really hurting during this time, and probably would’ve released songs like The Good The Bad The Ugly and Austin if they weren’t directed otherwise by their label. So in an effort to make up for the lack of upbeat songs, that’s how we were given Proof, Can You Keep A Secret, The Beauty, Killing U Softly, etc. but again, they were obviously about wilmer. With sorry not sorry being the lead single, demi couldn’t have a bunch of songs about still mourning the breakup, so they along with their team probably whittled out the more sad and obvious ones, and went with the ones that would make up the tmylm album we know and love. That’s why there were so many discarded tracks. I think they were also planning on switching record labels or had just recently switched record labels after the almost immediate failure of the mcintyre/jonas/lovato record label, Safehouse Records. (Which I think was created during the Future Now Tour, when Nick was helping Demi make tracks for TMYLM.) Like I said, I think there was some debate over which songs would be on TMYLM, and which ones wouldn’t. That’s why Demi said they wanted it to be a living album, or that they wanted to have a TMYLM-adjacent EP as a sequel, adding tracks in droplets while on the TMYLM tour, since they’d already been recorded. Obviously, this didn’t end up happening bc tour was WILD. They were filming another documentary, one that never got released, most likely because Demi’s management didn’t want the European leg to be seen, since Demi broke their sobriety in April, during the European leg of their tour. Not to mention, Demi’s team was also secretly controlling their food, checking their credit cards, firing anyone who tried to give Demi any food that wasn’t during meals or that had extra sugar. Demi eventually found out, which is what led to them dropping Phil and a good portion of their team, along with the friendships of Nick Jonas and Marissa, who seemingly knew at least a bit of what Demi’s management and team were doing, but maybe didn’t do anything to stop it or to support Demi while they were experiencing this. Obviously, not everyone is mentally strong enough to help someone while they battle with relapses in alcohol and an eating disorder, but I digress. Regardless, Demi pushed them away or they abandoned Demi, or more likely both parties were responsible for the burned bridges. ANYWAY, this obviously didnt help demi, and only caused them to spiral deeper into their relapse, as they realized that with drugs and alcohol, they could forget the fact that: A) they lost so many family members and pets in such a short amount of time and never really got to cope with those losses because they were busy with music, touring, filming, etc. B) that they were broken up with the person they loved for 6 years and thought they were going to marry and essentially (and wrongly) credited their sobriety to C) that their manager and sober coach were exploiting their recovery so they could continue to profit instead of actually caring about Demi’s sobriety/realizing that they were actually causing Demi to overwork themself and be overly aware of how they had to be sober, healthy, and a role model, resulting in too much pressure and eventually their relapse and od. Anyway i kinda got off track, but this was the first part of my “essay” that didnt fit.

Let’s not forget that Island Records was broke at the time, they did not have a CEO. That’s why they couldn’t get funding and why artists like Shawn Mendes, Nick Jonas, Sabrina Carpenter, got little to NO promotion. Until this year the CEOs were assigned and hopefully Demi will succeed and have a better promoted era

I totally enjoyed this omg I was wondering rigjt now like, wtf why are there so many unreleased songs from pre-OD TMYLM, and 2019 pre TAOSO, they essentially have TWO unreleased albums, the EP /album from spring summer 2018 and then the pre COVID “I Love Me” album. That’s so fascinating omg. I really like the vibes that unreleased songs like “Out Of touch” “wait for you” give off it’s kind of 80s dance oriented and I wish Demi had explored that genre a bit more. But i also really am intrigued on the weird rollout that was planned for TMYLM like how many songs didn’t make the cut, because they were going to get released again but then, it turned into its own body of work, which then was halted by not only her OD but also her management leaving her definitely played a major part of it. although I’m not entirely sure if they had ownership of the 2018 songs, then leaving her probably did stop her from getting to release them later like in 2019. dang I had no idea Demi had been screwed over so badly

I think New Touch, Big Little Lies (about Wilmer), Wait For You, Austin, Out of Touch, Killing U Softly, All I Wanna Know, The Beauty, and Written in the Sand were either meant for the original TMLYM or they planned to release them in the 2018 D7. I also think Eden and Emotional Top Shelf were later tracks meant for D7 but got scrapped (and sadly, as they're two of Demi's best songs).

They all love and care about demi then the boys need to forget about their own lives and focus on all demi sacrificed to help them achieve the fame they have and how demi has always stood beside them and they ditch demi the moment she relapsed what kind if friend does that . Do ai believe Joe loves demi yes but he let his ego get in the way and was too scared to tell them how he felt before it was too late.
