Porcelain Clay is an amazing material but many potters are afraid to wheel throw with it. It is a bit more difficult but I think it is worth the struggle.
Porcelain is very beautiful, you can make it very thin and yet very strong.
In this video I will show you how I wheel throw in porcelain - from wedging the porcelain clay, centering and shaping the final bowl.

When working porcelain, slip is my friend. I use it like grease on a rotating shaft or butter on toast. And a slow wheel speed. I live in a quite dry climate but only use a damp box to keep the clay moist until later when I have time to attach handles. Otherwise I turn the pots over as soon as the top can support the weight and let them dry on open shelves. All this works for me but may not for other people.

I've only used porcelain once and that was early on in my pottery experience, I made 'snowflake' Christmas decorations, using shapes and cookie cutters, I've not got the nerve to do anymore for now. I am enjoying your videos more and more, you put across that your not an expert Potter because you don't 'follow all the rules', if I'm wrong, I apologise but I also disagree with you, your pieces are extraordinary, the shapes and your glazing techniques are stunning. I think I like your working practices as you do what you feel is right for you, like trimming the insides, for example. I can work within these principles nicely myself. My tutor is very good and she has taught me so much, but I also watch allt of different potters on KZbin and so I like to experiment, with some success and a few failures along the way. So thankyou for your words of wisdom, you skills and your words according to your work. Thankyou. Please keep potting and I will keep watching. From afar. This bowl is a beautiful shape, a d when I've perfected my skills I may try porcelain again.😅😊

Wooden ribbing is good, to compact the bottom of the pot and helps with expansion around the middle. I honestly love❤ you all. My Personal Donkey is learning. 🤣🤣🤣God bless you all. 👌💖👏🙌

Porcelain is a love/hate relationship for me! 😅 It can be difficult and frustrating because it soaks up water so Fast! But it is a beautiful clay and show glazes so well! I work with a lot of SiO2 black ice porcelain. It's tricky but rewarding when it comes out right! By the way, where are you throwing today? Looks like another studio. Thank you for another great and inspirational video!! 🙏

Do you throw porcelain in your studio, or do you go to a different studio when you are using it? Also, the weather looks great over there right now. Thank you as always for your insights.

I only throw stoneware in my own studio - and porcelain in another. Stoneware can easily contaminate the porcelain and porcelain require different firering. So it is easier to deal with this way for me.

@@deMibPottery does that work with wooden bats, too? Love your videos. The tension was unbearable waiting for you to get the bowl off the bat. That's when everything falls apart for me 😭

Porcelain does not like water, but I believe that Her pottery wheel was running at a much faster pace than she can handle. 🎡😁😍😂😂😂👌
