Please don’t ever feel you have to produce more videos than you have time for. I consider them a wondrous gift that I can revisit, and revisit I do! You are incredibly productive and your energy and creativity is quite humbling. I recently took the plunge and arranged to have some help for the jobs that are more physically demanding. Like root barriers around the raspberries. They are invading my square beds. And the comfrey is a great big beautiful monster. Must be relocated. How much I learn year after year about light requirements. That’s part of the joy, isn’t it. Many blessings!

Watching that duck waddle down that garden path is like living in a story book. What peace, what a tranquil life. Love the twig herb baskets. So charming ! And ,like you, nothing smells as good to me as basil! It smells like summer. The sink will look amazing when the plants start trailing and climbing. Will soften the lines. I had two huge trees taken out . One cost $2,200.00 the other $2,000.00 ouch!!!! You could scoop out the center of the stump enough to put in a trailing plant or shrub. I have done that to one of mine. Why was yours removed? Mine were so tall I worried when it got windy , they had become a possible danger. Rather be safe than sorry. But boy does it change your views.

I had 2 amazing maples growing in the "hell strip" in front of my house. One was bright yellow, the other was a burnt orange. They were just beautiful in the fall. Lost both of them to a maple virus. The front of the house is a southern exposure, so went from wonderful shade to a full sun garden overnight. That was such a sad day. But surprisingly, the azalea bushes acclimated to the full sun and are thriving. And a lovely dogwood my son and husband planted as an Easter gift when he was 3 years old took off. It is huge now. So, I guess it will remain to be seen how your garden changes. Needless to say, I am sure it will be lovely.

I have a maple tree that was here when we bought the property but it was smaller then. Now, thirteen years later, it’s shading my sun loving plants. So I need to bite the bullet and do some transplanting also. Love the sink! How creative! Although having it as a kitty retreat seemed a viable option too!😉 You’ve also inspired me to try planting second crops such as lettuces, etc. I have never attempted that before. I agree with you on the antique sink & trying to make it look like it “fits in”…the very reason why I have not purchased one for my backyard. lol It would look ridiculous as well as a bathtub I see people trying to put in their yard. I think you have to have an old house (as you do) in the right environment to help it look like it belongs. My friend who has a very large newer house is always “trying” for an older look because she loves the farmhouse/antique look, inside & out. The two just don’t go together. Her old pedestal sink that she found looks odd in her back yard. Loving the antique headboard & footboard in your garden…makes a great fence & certainly fits right in.😊

We have so many rusty old items around here, the sink is just another old thing hanging around an old house, but it had to be placed properly. I agree, it may not work with a modern home. We can get away with a lot living in a century old home.

I am always amazed at how much you accomplish from video to video, and I know what we see is just a small glimpse of what you actually do with your time. Thank you so much for sharing it with us! I feel, especially lately, all I'm doing is watering, watering and more watering, trying to keep my plants from dying in the heat and still I'm not totally succeeding. I've lost another Lavender, even though I went to great effort to plant it "right" and I've lost a few more roses. However, I have a lot to be very grateful for, I do have a lot of plants doing well and I'm enjoying some beautiful flowers. Following your advice I've begun starting seeds for fall planting for spring blooming, though I'm starting them indoors in trays since it's just too hot for seedlings outdoors. I'm also starting some new basil plants from seed since the basil in the garden has all bolted; maybe I can overwinter some as houseplants. I love that Herb book, so beautiful. I would love to grow Phlox, the tall kind I saw in some of your older videos. I planted some bareroots back in the spring and they did nothing at all, never even a hint of growth, but maybe I can get them going from seed. I did start some hollyhocks and now I'm trying pansies, and violas. We're getting our very hottest temps for the year this week and next, but when we get past that and into September I hope to plant lots of seeds outside. That really was a huge tree!! Did they take all of it away, or do you have more wood to work with? I love the sink! Maybe some Dichondra Silver Falls dripping down the back of it would hide that whole open spot. But, I know whatever you choose to do in it will look wonderful. And I really love the old iron bed frame! I have a few in my yard too. Thank you again Jeri for another very interesting and inspiring video. We really are so very grateful for all you share with us!!

Oh My!! I do feel for you Jeri; as I shared with you already, I experienced this last summer and did lose some as I could not get to them fast enough. Perhaps putting some small temporary shade cloth of some kind on some of them, as a sheet, apron on the small pots, umbrella, till you are able to move them. It does not take long for the sun to cook those tender plants. You have work ahead of you. I hope the weather will be supportive, it has been 100 and heat index of over 110 for 5 days and no relief in sight. Little here and little there, you will get it. ") In Joy

Your gardens are lovely Jeri! What an awesome bargain you received on the phlox which is one of my favorite top five perennials. They will bloom from spring through fall until your first frost and it’s just a beautiful bush flower. 🌸 🌺 The tree was huge and we had about ten removed that were threatening our home a few years back. I painted a few of my stumps with white barn paint and currently using them as over sized plant stands. I’m not exactly loving the idea, but it’s fine for now. I think a few stumps should be sawed down to three feet instead of four as it’s hard to find the perfect planter. Looking forward to seeing your creativity with the stump. 🥰

The terracotta looks wonderful in your sink. Definitely the right choice for that garden. It ties the warm colors of the bricks into the sink display quite nicely, with added whimsy. Its hard to see Gods trees come down, but if they are too near your home its important that they do. Stella is lovely. We had three trees fall during a storm and we did have the stumps ground up and removed. I am sure you will think of a nice use for the stump and can't wait to see what it is. Many just use a large planter on them with a trailing vine plant which is simple and pretty. In time the stump will rot and break off as nature intends. It will go back to the earth.

I've tried 5 times, I can NOT grow lavender either. I need an iron bed like that to hold my gladiolus upright. They do like to fall over once they bloom. I had to move things around this last spring due to a large tree dying so I know the work it brings. But the change can be exciting too. A dovecote from the stump is a most excellent idea! I can't wait to see it!

I've had some lavender that lived for 5 years, but now it seems to be such a difficult plant to grow.

I think the pots are a lovely addition and especially the idea to use plants that will trail over the sides. The difference that one big tree can make. Your garden is always so beautiful my friend…sorry about the lavender though I prefer to believe that one day you will crack the code for making them thrive where you are. Sending hugs.♥️🌹🌹🌹

Cracking the code could take me a lifetime, but those little babies I planted from sprigs are still going strong' ( only about 4" tall)

I went to an antique store yesterday and saw a brass head and footboard for sale. Thought of you, Jeri. However, owner wanted $140. Will wait it out for a better price. That vintage sink looks Hopalong perfect.

@@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow Glad to hear that. Much tougher in Connecticut. Facebook marketplace or the Goodwill has the best pricing.

It was very hard for me to watch the tree being cut down, I can imagine your distress watching that in person.

Possibilities are endless now , even though so sad to see your tree removed it was a safer option thank you for sharing your journey and your beautiful house and grounds

You are by far the classiest and most talented person I watch on You Tube. I love all your garden ideas and plants. Normally you can do no wrong in my opinion. BUT I really don’t like the sink in the garden. Being from the south it evokes old memories of discarded bathroom accessories. Even the washing machine on the front porch. Just my opinion.

Fair enough! I know it's not to everyone's taste.

I have that book, Jeri. We've done the tiered citrus display for two different Christmases. So pretty. I think you'd also like the book "A Time to Blossom: Mothers, Daughters and Flowers" by Tovah Martin with photography by Richard Brown. It's very nostalgic, and I love it.

I'll look for that, I like Tovah Martin.

I just found another book that as an artist and gardener, I think you'd love. It's called "The Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady" by Edith Holden. It has her botanical illustrations, poems (Chaucer, Shakespeare, Browning, etc) and her observations on nature around her. This was her private diary she never intended for publication. It's a gem.
