I'm so glad to see somebody saying nice things about the Chipz module. I was worried when I saw people complaining about the sine not being a true sine etc. I think it's got grit. What I would love to see is if somebody could compare the sine coming from chipz to an orignial Gameboy DMG-01 sine wave via LSDJ.

i really like the crunchy sine :D

Great demonstration. Really love what you've done with the module. I have this one and haven't gotten to know it as well as I would like. Useful info about the second LFO being locked to four times faster. Useful.

Just received mine and didn't really watch reviews before diving in. When I started playing notes I was shocked at how unstable the oscillators were, but it was pulling beautifully growly tones. Put them together on the niftycase outputs and one osc seems to step over the other and they distort into this mangled but punchy tone. Love it!

I agree with you its a rad module and underrated.

Nice demo! Thanks! Got a Chipz on the way, gonna be my 4th VCO in my rack, hope it brings some texture/noise for my Beads.

I'm not sure if it's a hidden feature or intended at all, but when you put the upper oscillator's waveform in the noise waveform, the sound it makes is affected by the bottom waveform knob, even when the secondary oscillator isn't pluged in to anything.

Cool video. I got a Nifty Bundle recently and am learning how to use it. I have gotten some interesting sequences with the Cellz module. I really like both of them. Your video is inspiring me to see what they can do.

Really great starter module or as a gritty digital oscillator for anyone. Best of all, it’s cheap as chips.

Great video, thank you for the walkthrough. I have had a couple of these for a while but your enthusiasm has got me excited to explore them again. I just got the hydrasynth desktop and I am looking forward to using them as additional modulation sources too.

thanks! Be wary of using of them for modulation, the LFOs are lofi to the point of generating an audio tone even at sub audio rates, which is both funny and annoying haha

I didn't realize the lfo waves were monopolar (don't go negative) so you'll need to rectify them to use with a full range module. I have a utility module with my Soulsby Oscitron that handles that for me. Very grateful for it, too.

I'm considering getting the NiftyCASE as an expansion and was wondering if I should get the bundle or not. Thanks for the video! I think hooking it up to an oscilloscope can really enhance the video (and review videos in general). How is the NiftyCASE? Are you using the built in MIDI to CV?
@Earther._4 жыл бұрын
re: oscillioscope - i agree! But i dont own one (yet). Molten Music Lab actually did a vid with this module with thru some scope software. No complaints about the niftycase so far, i got it to run as an FX skiff filled with digital modules, i was worried the PSU might be crappy and introduce hum, but it seems totally clean - big relief! I havent actually tried the MIDI yet, but I'm sure it would work fine as others have demo'd. It looks quite nice in person too.

Cre8 ought to consider hiring you for marketing. You do a better job than they do at highlighting the good points.

Their videos on everything have a snarky tone I hate. Like whoever does the captions hates whoever films them, it seems like.

I'm a newbie and just ordered the nifty case which features this module. Can you compare the mix with Nebulae (or Rings) by chance?

Is chipz module really noisy?
@Earther._4 жыл бұрын
Well they're lofi modules so they're noisy as you can hear, but if you mean DSP/ground-hum ugly noise, no, I have 2 and neither presents any noise problems.
