Here is a demo of an awesome tool I found for piercing berries and other items in preparation for freeze drying. You can get this from FrozenRight.com

Bit the bullet and bought one, LOVE IT! Using a quarter sheet pan baking tray and silpat mat with a wet paper towel underneath to hold the mat in place to give the roller tips something to grab onto, I used the tool the opposite way. With the metal bar that spans the width of the roller facing up, roll the tool backwards instead of forward. The baking tray keeps them from rolling all over the place after piercing. Scoop them up into the drying tray. Works beautifully! All berries still in perfect round shape, not mushy or distorted. No explosions in the freeze dryer, they look so perfect you wouldn't even know they've been pierced. Some really soft ones may stick to others once dried, but they separate easily without turning to dust. What a time saver! Did 5 pounds in about 20 minutes. Time is invaluable to me.

Perfect! I was telling a friend last night how hard blue berries are to do because of the skin. Brilliant! American ingenuity!

Yep! Expensive but worth it in my opinion. I just packed up two #10 cans from the batch in this video.

Freeze your blueberries and put them in a large food processor and nick the skins. It works just fine.
@theyoungnative932 жыл бұрын
@@TasteOfHealthOnline wouldn’t that turn them into smoothie mix?
@TasteOfHealthOnline2 жыл бұрын
@@theyoungnative93 Not at all. You just pulse the food processor 3 or 4 times (Don’t use a blender either), and of course make sure they are frozen.

This is interesting. I'm new to freeze dryibg. Can you tell my , Why it's necessaryto poke the berries prior to dryibg them? I thought you could just place on the tray and proceed with freeze drying. I didn't know you needed to poke each berry. Thanks

The skin on some items like blueberries won't let the water vapor escape without piercing the skin. They take forever to dry and sometimes aren't fully dried at the end.

$140 is more than a “little pricey!” I’ll just keep freezing my berries and using my food processor to nick the skins. Yikes! Would like one if it’s ever reasonable priced.
@theyoungnative932 жыл бұрын
What kind of food processor knicks the skins?
@MGillDesign2 жыл бұрын
You can also use a meat tenderizer. the one's with the handles.

Barbara, thank you for listing the price. Also, a dough piercer might work just as well and if you bake, you probably already have one.
@TasteOfHealthOnline Жыл бұрын
@@theyoungnative93 if your berries are frozen and you put them into your food processor, you simply pulse the on off button to knick the skins. Three or four pulses usually does it. I pull out a small handful and inspect to make certain there’s a cut mark on every berry. Hope that helps.

BEWARE of Harvest Right! They get your money, then may send you a defective unit which they will not repair or replace. I am out over $4,000 for a FD I bought for my daughter's family. I am trying to save others from losing thousands of dollars to a company that does NOT DO WHAT IS RIGHT !! It has been over a year of HR keeping our money, we get the shaft.
