YoloBox DEMO! Network Speed and Test information, Encoding Type, and Bitrate Settings.
This video will be UGLY (it's supposed to be). It will help you recognize the issues that occur when you pair an encoding setting, frame resolution, and bitrate with a network that does not support the upload you are trying to send.
Notes in case you skipped it: I performed a network test and it showed an average upload speed of 3.5 to 4Mbps (3500 kbps to 4000 kbps). The start of the video is at 3Mbps (too high about 75-90% of the upload stream).
I talk about frame resolution and bitrate. I should have streamed at 2k during the intro, but I didn't because I wanted you to see what happens when the stream is a little data starved.
You should notice some scratchy audio and maybe some frame drops during the intro.
When I drop down to 2000kbos the audio and frame rates improve on all Stream Settings. When I push it to 8000kbos it completely messes the stream up (audio and framerate).
NONE of the issues in this video are the fault of YOLOBOX! They are a problem of not pairing the correct encoding type, frame resolution and bitrate to a network that won't support the upload stream.
I hope this is helpful and not confusing. Please let me know if It helped you.

Thanks for the great info, what setting would you suggest to use for sports streaming at 1080p when the fram rate is likely going to be 30fps?

Always use the highest bitrate your network will support and test in all encoding modes- CBR VBR and CQ. Each one will work differently each time you use it. This is because the network changes in real time. You may even need to change encoding speed mid stream by pausing the stream (if you notice issues). So, make your tests and decide for yourself. This doesn't have a definitive answer. You also have to consider what CBR, VBR, and CQ do. Also. If you have a wired connection that is robust, then you could use CBR. CBR will be the most demanding of the three. CBR will drop frames to make sure your bitrate is upheld, thereby making a stuttery stream. CBR will drop your bitrate to make sure your FPS are maintained, giving you a pretty smooth stream at the expense of frame detail. And CQ will do something in-between. The only way to know for sure I'd to test it. I use all three at different times and sometimes switch midstream.

Robert, Thanks for the great explanation for the 3 encoding settings. This may sound silly but does the frame rate which I have my camcorder set to ( 60 FPS ) have any correlation with the frame rate from the YoloBox? Do they have to match? I prefer to record 1080@60FPS in my camcorder. Thanks again!

That's a great question. No, they don't have to match, but matching them, when possible. Will get you a better quality live stream. This is because the encoder doesn't have to process the image to match what it is sending. Well, it will process the image some, but it won't have to work as hard. You may already have the work around depending on your camera settings. Here it is: most cameras of a certain price point will allow you to record in one frame rate and send another frame rate over the HDMI out. In this example you could record at 60fps internally but send 24fps put over the HDMI (or any combining between). So check it out. That's what I do. Cheers.

Very helpful explanations I have the original yolobox and sometimes it’s great sometime it’s not! on the same network I will have to experiment some more with these settings! Have you used 4g or 5G phone as a tether

Very good presentation.I have experienced dropped frames and freezing on fibre connections that had about 75 mbps upload. The OG never reported any drop frames my troubles went away as soon as I plugged in an ethernet connection. I really wonder if the OG have an issue with wifi connectivity.I also installed speedify and there is no difference.I always try to stream at 720,however the box defaults to 1080 so I have to remember to change it before I start streaming.Never considered pausing the stream and changing the settings so I will take your advice on the next stream if I encounter any issues. Overall I think this device is ground breaking and it allows you to setup up a stream in record time.

Thanks for your thoughts. Believe it or not, when OGYB was released it defaulted to 720p. There was a change to 1080p as the default some time ago in a FW update. I don't generally use cable connections with YB, so your observation about Ethernet compared to wireless/wifi is welcome. I haven't experienced too many dropped frames in a long time, but I do notice them when they happen. The Pro is much better on how it handles them because of its upgraded processor. I like both YoloBox designs and have enjoyed using them. Cheers.
