This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. The cooperative business and community model is both older than you think, and probably not what you think. Cooperatives have a history, especially in Buffalo, NY, and in minority communities everywhere. Clinton Parker explains how co-ops really work, how they can help some modern problems, and how you can get involved.
Produced by Justin Bondi Productions (justinbondiproductions.com)
Clinton Parker is working to grow the cooperative movement into many more sectors than just grocery stores and housing. Parker is a transplant to Buffalo from Westfield, N.Y. after studying medical anthropology at Buffalo State College. He has lived at the Nickel City Housing Coop for 4-plus years and has sat on the boards of local and national cooperatives. When he's not advocating, he bakes quite a sourdough.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Good job, Clinton Parker. My family are members of three cooperatives, a food buying coop, a credit union, and our church is run as a cooperative.
