Sadly, it's amazing how the government screams about Russian intervention in our electoral process. For over 60 years, the U.S. has intervened in other countries elections and just let Dictators come in. The shah of Iran, Haiti, Honduras, Guatemala, Vietnam, Chile, just to name a few. It's time for expert diplomacy and BRAINS to settle the mess we got today. That takes the most Courage.
@samo222
@samo222 7 жыл бұрын
pbruc brooks You are completely right about that. The US as intervened in countless elections and no one bats an eye. The Russians are hated so much because Putin took a stand to globalism and now the US is fighting it. I like Chomsky for the fact that he clearly knows what the issues are but I disagree with his solutions.

O.k. , that's somewhat of a Fair statement.It's little known that during the hostage crisis in Iran during Jimmy Carter's term there was a State department Diplomat by the name of Gary Sick who's team worked 24/7 to negotiate the hostage situation and release I say Bravo to that! The Mliitary rescue before that was a big failure. Chomsky does lean to the Left, but he backs it up in terms of factual history.

Professor Chomsky is just paying attention to world events and drawing educated conclusions based on information from fairly reliable sources. This is no exceptional act of mental ability. He just reads and has an excellent memory. I am a huge fan but also very realistic about his point of view, which appears rather limited to his studies via academia. I think his experience shapes his opinions just as experience affects everyone. In the end, he is very knowledgeable but I have disagreed with his perspective on certain things such as in relation to responses (or lack thereof) to Global Atrocities and the operational policies of the US and our Military.

If David Attenborough was our president then our country would be saved, preserved, fixed, helped, all of the above and all around GREAT. We need a president that is not "all about war, more military, and building a wall" We NEED a man like David Attenborough that will care solely on preserving our WORLD, in turn that will help our future, and the future of all living things including the Earth itself for 1000s of years to come. We NEED a man like David to be in POWER so he can actually make the changes that he wants to change for the better good of humanity. Solely looking to save our wildlife will in turn save our earth and humanity.

@JohnMoseley
@JohnMoseley 6 жыл бұрын
Atónio Lima, yes, which is another way of saying, 'ideology.' A certain set of values, even those that facilitate trauma as you say, are so embedded that they're seen as norms that people would actually be afraid to do without. It's not even really about policy. As Chomsky says, a great many Americans who believe they oppose 'Obamacare' are in favour of the affordable care act. Similarly, Tory voters in the UK have been interviewed expressing support for policies that are only espoused by the left-wing Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, but when they're told they're Corbyn's policies, they react with revulsion. So it's about concerted demonisation of certain abstract political positions (i.e. 'socialist' as opposed to concrete positions like support for single payer healthcare) and the personalities said to represent them. And people buy into all this without in any way understanding what they're really supporting. As Marx said of ideology: 'They are doing it but they do not know they're doing it.'

@jaredbrandt9602

The average American (I am American) deserves our present (surely poor; but time will tell for sure) leadership. There seems to be a strange way where often leaders fill a void for their public, which any sane person should see as a sign of the poor state of mind of the average American. Chomsky has a beautiful way of explaining systems, where it's clear he understands issues from many perspectives, throughout many ages. So many people lack the flexibility and stability of thought to understand or accept what Chomsky and other bright minds tell us, "the public". It seems about 90% of Americans can't hold an intelligent conversation because of some pre-decided core value which they are unable to think critically beyond. I think that's why you have so many who want to reject his analysis, and claim he is dumb or propaganda. It's sad. Clearly, Chomsky is amazing.
@bosnbruce5837

The amount of national myths in USA is just astonishing. Few nations out there are more brain washed than the USA. One might think of former Eastern block countries, but by 70s everyone could see plainly through the primitive state propaganda. It's not that Americans are more stupid or more suggestive, its just that the propaganda methods and the amount of informational bombs is simply overwhelming for an ordinary person to stay level headed.

The working class wasn't as duped by Trump as these otherwise brilliant political commentators seem to think, at least not here in the Rust Belt. The vast majority of us did NOT support Trump or Clinton, but Bernie Sanders! But, you see, when we were forced to "choose" between these two candidates we despised, well, there's no way in hell we were going to vote for the candidate/party who robbed us of the candidate we overwhelmingly supported! Some of us sat out the sham "election," or voted for "third party" candidates, while many others became determined to make sure the treasonous criminal who stole our vote was not "elected." And *not* as a "protest vote" but because she convinced us that she was the "greater evil." A true enemy is preferable to a false friend.

While I deeply respect Chomsky I found this interview somewhat disappointing. It appears that he is buying into propaganda. I list only few points where I found myself completely disagreeing with him. - Syria. Assad is a leader who enjoys support from all ethnic groups - Shia, Sunni, and Christians as clearly was demonstrated during last presidential election. He is one of few leaders in the Middle East who promotes equality between men and women. None of allegations against him that he used chemical weapons to kill innocent turned out to be true. In some cases we couldn't identify the source of chemical weapons, in others it was proven to be Al-Qaeda/ISIS. If Assad goes then who will be in power? Do we want another destroyed country like Libya ruled by Al-Qaeda and criminal gangs? Do we ever learn? - I understand and partially share his dislike of Trump but it doesn't mean we should ignore the fact that our mass media produces so much biased and fake news based on undocumented and untrustworthy anonymous intelligent sources. They are real threat to American people and democracy. Their cheering for war is a serious danger to humanity as a whole.

Naom Chomsky always has his eye on the ball, and sees all the underlying selfishness of many politicians. His books are well worth reading, and if I believed in a god, I would make him a saint!

Philosopher, cognitive scientist and political observer Noam Chomsky has been called the “father of modern linguistics,” and his revolutionary work has had an impact on everything from artificial intelligence to music theory. Born in Philadelphia in 1928, Chomsky enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania in 1945, at the age of 16. There, he achieved his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in linguistics, leaving in 1955 to take up a post teaching philosophy and linguistics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology - where he presently holds the position of professor emeritus. A revered cultural icon, Chomsky is still politically active, especially when it comes to issues of American foreign policy, state capitalism and mass media news. He has written in excess of 100 books and was named the “world’s top public intellectual” in a poll conducted in 2005.

Chomsky is the ultimate reminder that we like to have people explain how things are but then when people do that we understand we should listen to them but also look to other sources as well to avoid being one-sided.

It's hard to believe Trump is easy on Russia just over elevated tensions. It's believed Trump has had business dealing with Russian oligarchs and mobsters connected to Putin. If this is the case, I want more investigation of these matters not less.

An interesting, thoughtful and thought provoking "interview." Unfortunately it has one inherent flaw. Being longer than 30 seconds immediately makes it inaccessible to the overwhelming number of "Dories" (plural of Dory?) in the world.
