Polio is very painful too. 1950's a boy in my class had had polio and must wear steel braces with high top leather shoes and crutches for life ! My girlfriend's mother was in an iron lung for a year. One leg got shorter and pain for life. President Franklin D Roosevelt had polio and wore steel braces and used a wheelchair and pain for life. Vaccine and clean "Clean Water" and clean envirornment can control polio.

The supreme court did NOT vote to criminalize sleeping and camping on public property. They simply voted to not disallow local governments to criminalize it. There is no federal law prohibiting sleeping or camping on public property. The supreme court erred in its ruling.

I'm happy that Gov. Newsom feels a sense of "urgency" about the growing homeless population in Calif. It's about time. But, as much as I'd like to see the homeless disappear from public places, where will they go after cities conduct the "sweeps" that the governor is calling for? If not public land, that only leaves private land and I'd rather not have them showing up at my front door looking for a place to call home. Sweeps alone won't solve the problem.

Hi - I love Democracy Now, its editorial angle, its commitment to present issues in a more ethical, fairer way, giving a voice to those mainstream media usually ignore. I really do appreciate the work DN does and how it goes through great efforts to cover the stories of the weak ones, the forgotten, the disfranchised ... those for whom the system has failed, sometimes even willingly and intentionally, and to whom those in power and privilege treat only as the mean to an end, usually profit, and dehumanise. Nevertheless, being Venezuelan, I just wanted to clarify that, and this not only my opinion but that of many and can be backed by facts, the dire and devastating conditions of the country are not the direct results of "sanctions imposed by US and EU", they certainly didn't help or alleviate the situation for millions of regular Venezuelan citizens but they shouldn't be blame entirely for the whole situation (if any these sanction bear a fraction of the responsibility and, yes, have been ineffective to overthrow the current regime). However, Venezuela's current devastating situation is a consequence for which chavismo and Maduro's regime are responsible entirely, the conditions in country, already plague by corruption, inequality and harrowing poverty, long before Chavez, only became worse after Chavez came to power and then continuously degenerated after Maduro took over, the only difference is that the former was beloved, and indeed still today the last true, charismatic leader venezuela had, but Maduro is extremely unpopular and despised and he's only a puppet, a front face serving bigger over lords (like Diosdado Cabello and such), with a especial direct link with drug-trafficking. Like many Venezuelan, I don't have proof of this but I know, and I know that what is known but we can't proof is the harsh truth. And since I consider myself a liberal and progressive person I'd never want for the left-wing social-democratic progressive movement to ever be associated with the abhorrent policies and brutal repression of chavismo and Maduro's regime. In fact, I really do hope that all liberal democratic governments never be associated or get inspired by regimes such a chavismo and will always aim for much greater and noble aspirations. Thanks
