I haven't heard all the speakers at Jimmy Carter's service but anyone speaking of his decades long advocacy for Palestinian rights and against Israel's apartheid and attacks against Palestinians, would have bern a honor and tribute to his life.

What do mean by apartheid? Palestinians are not Israelis citizens but Israel allow many Palestinians to worked in Israel prior to Oct.7 than in any Arab countries.. Arab Muslims citizens in Israel have the same rights as the Jews, in fact an Arab judge send to prison a Jewish prime minister, in an apartheid state that would not be possible.

You cannot simply look at Palestinian citizens of Israel as the barometer but if we do, they're very much an oppressed minority in Israel the way black peeps have it harder in American society. Then you look at the 5 million Palestinians in the occupied territories and they have no citizenship rights and are dominated by a military dictatorship that refuses to allow them to have sovereignty, and has been doing this for about 5 decades. The only way Israel wouldn't be apartheid is if they fully annexed the territories they occupy in Gaza, the west Bank and east Jerusalem, while giving full citizenship rights to all the people regardless of religion. Israel doesn't want to do this because the numbers are about 7 million Palestinians and slightly less than 7 million Jews from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea. The first prime minister of this one democratic state, very likely would be a Palestinian. It's so dumb though because the Israeli and Palestinian populations are so similar that it wouldn't take a ton of time for there to be another Jewish prime minister. If Israelis gave up zionism and embraced living together with equal rights, they would still have enough Jewish voters to maintain political relevance... but they don't want parity or having to compete with the Palestinians politically... so they prefer to dominate, occupy and steal from the Palestinians instead.

All around the world something sacred is being stolen from the hearts of good people. All around the world people are finding callouses where there used to be tenderness. We want our tenderness back, god damn it. I want my tenderness back. Give me back the nightmares. Give me back the tears. Give me back the dry retching over the toilet, and the shaking under the blankets. Give me back the collapsing onto the couch and not moving for several hours until my system can recover from what my eyes just saw.I’ll take it. I’ll take it all back again. Thank you for sharing this interview with Jimmy Carter. I am embarrassed to admit I had not completely forgotten about those peace talks back then. ( I was out of my teen years) I did not know much about what was going on in different countries( I am US) but I do certainly remember believing that this man President Jimmy Carter had a very sincere and respectful feelings for getting Egypt and Israel to come to an accord. I say coherent because he also was a harsh critic of the apartheid regime in South Africa and imposed sanctions on the country, Reagan later vetoed Carter's act and reinstated commercial relations with the regime. So you can se a coherent policy there. You can say that Reagan was a popular president, but he was a force for destruction never seen before, and overvalued for sure. But he was popular, if that means something to you, you can have it and be happy with it.

This may sound trite at this point. But President Carter was incorrect that most Israelis never meet a Palestinian. As of 1991, when I left, many Palestinians worked in main parts of Israel, such as Jerusalem. I would see them on buses, walking around, and working at grocery stores, restaurants, hotels, etc. Always very friendly and on good terms with their employers. Very frustrated when they couldn't enter from the West Bank due to trouble. Gazans also worked in Israel, especially on the Kibbutzim that Hamas later attacked. I'm just adding the day-to-day aspect; as usual its the politicians that make everything so impossible. But I wish Pres Carter had seen this aspect of 'normal life' there.

I was riveted to the coverage of the Camp David Israel Palestine meetings, which led to the historic accord.
