Thank you for this interview. I don't think many people have taken some time to actually *listen* to Dean Phillips yet. So many of the political pundits seem to be acting like its just sooo absurd that he has a legitimate shot to really catch on with voters in the coming weeks/months. I HAVE listened intently and he ticks off all the boxes for me so far. He makes sense, he's smart, seems quite competent, and a sincere human (among other things). Hey, and he's 54 with 5 years experience in Congress, etc etc.. Perhaps don't be so dismissive. Listen to the likes of James Carviille, Bill Maher and A LOT of other Democratic voters right now who agree : At 81 Biden can not go another 4 years as President, nor should he. He will lose next November. The Democratic party has its head in the sand on this one. Time for a refresh.

I agree. Biden will lose to Trump. He's been ineffective as a leader and he has the same popularity rating as Trump, around 40%. People don't like him. Why run him again? Is there literally no one else they could consider more than Joe Biden? Rep. Phillips' mission is to get them to pick someone else. I don't think Rep. Phillips has a chance, but not because he's a strange outsider. I think he has pertinent points. The American people are sick of the same old Democrats and he is too. I looked at his voting record, and while he's not an AOC-type progressive, his voting record supports many things that helps American people. I wanted to give a big shoutout for him cosigning the Individuals with Disability Education Act (IDEA), the disabled need a voice too and that's a huge step.

There's an old saying, "Democrats fall in love, Republicans fall in line." Joe Biden has a huge enthusiasm deficit, especially among younger votes. Many of them likely resent the thought of a person who is nearly three generations older trying to hold onto power rather than let the next generation have a shot. These voters may stay home on Election Day, which would sink the Democratic ticket. Joe Biden shows clear signs of frailty, and the job of President is known to be the most stressful on Earth, one which ages people at an accelerated rate. This isn't some experiment to see if a person can continue to serve as President into his mid-80s. Mr. Biden should act like a statesman and step aside for the good of his party and the country.

based on your first sentence, I thought you were going to discuss the need for Democrats to fall in love with candidates. That may not necessarily be a winning strategy. I can count on 1 hand the numbers of politicians that I actually "liked" much less "loved". Yes, Biden is the oldest president, but the Biden-Harris Admin to have a record of accomplishments (infrastructure, jobs, maternal health, civil rights, judiciary etc.) to run on. This democracy is actually an experiment, and it is barely hanging on.

If we had ranked choice voting then a 3rd party run doesn't take away from the least worst candidate it adds to a voters ability to influence the conversation around policy and moderates candidates behavior. It will naturally pull people to positions of compromise and coalition building around policies in which Americans are demanding change.

This guy looks like he has a future in the Democratic Party. However, a two-term Representative cannot make the leap to President of the United States nor should they. I volunteered for Barack Obama but in retrospect, he would benefitted as President had he spent more time in the Senate learning how to push through legislation. More importantly, the last thing the United States needs right now is disarray and division within the only sane political party in the country. This is how Trump will be re-elected. Phillips praises Biden and then makes a case for why he shouldn't be the nominee. That is insanity. The incumbent President is the nominee. Either get with the program or you're handing the nation to an autocratic movement that wants to tear it down. The world is too dangerous in this moment for the United States to not have serious adults at the helm.
