Video from a few of the jumps that I made on a Performance Designs Sabre 3 120 that I had the chance to demo last week. I loved this canopy. The openings were smooth and comfortable, the harness control is so good that you don't even need the toggles until you land, and the flare power is amazing. I definitely think the Sabre 3 will be the next canopy I purchase.

Cool canopy. Sounded like you were enjoying it! Out the back of a skyvan too. Nice.

At what altitude are You jumping out from the plane and open the chute?
@KortanaDCS
@KortanaDCS Жыл бұрын
Typically we jump from between 13,000 and 14,000 feet, and I generally open at 4000 feet. I can technically open as low as 2500 feet, but I'd rather have extra time to deal with problems than an extra couple seconds of freefall.

Thanks for sharing this video. Looks like a great time and a great flying canopy. What Performance Design color is the center portion of canopy (red, tangerine)? Thanks

Random question from a guy who has 0 skydiving experience. If you leave the brakes stowed and fly with the rear risers do you get more glide out of the parachute? If that makes sense.
@KortanaDCS
@KortanaDCS Жыл бұрын
Yep! That said, even on long spots, I still release my brakes to make sure I have full control of the canopy, but then I'll use either some brakes or rear riser to flatten out my glide.

To expand on that, it depends on where you need to move relative to the wind. If you need to go downwind, it would make sense to use brakes instead of rear risers to reduce the descend rate and give the wind more time to carry you. If you need to go upwind and the wind is so strong that you don't move at all, it's a good idea to use front risers to give yourself a little bit more speed (but not lower than 100ft). In a no wind scenario rear risers give the best glide.

Sweet! When you 1st demo a chute do you open it and repack it yourself or do you trust the factory job?🤔
@KortanaDCS

So I hadn't done a factory demo before, so I spoke to the rep regarding any tips and tricks for packing it later, but he hooked it up to my rig already packed in the deployment bag.
