Sears catered to an older group and I loved that store. Nothing left in the mall now for us older folks.

In the US we only have 9 Sears locations left 😢 They’re still open all over Mexico due to different ownership

Hi Eric. Yeah. When Hudson bay bought Simpsons, Sears had to separate due to monolopy laws and it put them in a financial spot. The rest is history. 👍

This building was built like a tank. It was their main warehouse for sears catalog fulfillment in Windsor and area. The warehouse was located on the first floor and part of the second floor. It was designed to carry trucks driven on it. Think of parking garage. This is part of why it's being torn down. These buildings would be impossible to modify in an economical way.

Bob, I just want to thank you for all of the effort that you have undertaken at your own expense and the great amount of time spent on these videos. I am 70 years old and have known this area my whole life. I never knew that the quarry was so huge and that it had ties to MsGregor, also, the awesome views of the new bridge.

Hi Sue. You are more than welcome. I'm a boomer, too. Born in 53. Moved to Essex County when I was 14. I've been a REALTOR since 1985, but I love my hobbies, too. I do appreciate your acknowledgement of the time and effort involved, Sue. I started posting videos hoping to build an income stream for when I retire. I think I could have picked something easier, but I'm having fun. Thank you for the kind words.:)

Don’t expect housing in the mall site. Also, if you personally owned a property, would you focus on affordable housing, or something that will actually give you a return to your investment?

There you go stirring up some memories again Bob ... lol. I remember when "The Mall" first opened. It was a big deal for Windsor then. Seems to me that area use to be a horse racing track at one time. Also remember a HiHo restaurant being nearby on Howard.

They just tore down the Sears in the Mall over here in Ann Arbor, Michigan too. There's a new building going up already that will be a large grocery store, focusing on things from local farmers.
@johnjones16453 ай бұрын
That would be a wonderful thing to see go into the new building. Local farmers work their butts off doing what they love, but with far too little support from locals. Hug a farmer today. 🥰

I miss Sears and its product lines. It's been noted that Sears was the Amazon of its time, with customers throughout the continent ordering from the catalogs. Too bad it couldn't carry that into the digital age.

I heard there's a rumor about a maintenance tunnel connecting the main building to the auto service building. A long time ago, they had to seal it off because thieves would break into the auto service building and gain entry into the main building. I spoke to Guest Services at the mall yesterday (while purchasing an old Sears brick lol) and they never heard of such a thing. Maybe its just a made-up story. They did admit that there is a tunnel that runs under the mall itself.
@bobjonesrealtor77562 ай бұрын
Hi Shawnerr. Can't say I've ever heard that story before, but who knows!:) How much are Sears Bricks going for now a days? Great post! Thanks for sharing.

@@bobjonesrealtor7756 $20.00 cash at the Guest Services Desk. You're choice of numbered bricks.
@bobjonesrealtor77562 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing, Shawnerr! Do you think they will sell them all? Depending on the size of the brick they are making a fortune. 1000 brick = 20,000.00 dollars. 1000 brick would cover approx. a 14ft by ten foot area. Has to be more than thirty thousand bricks on the facade of the building. 20. x 30,000 = 600,000. Take 100,000 for reclaiming the brick and 100,000 to buy and number the clean brick (both high in my opinion but I'm just guessing at this game. = a 400, 000. dollar profit. Maybe I should should be selling bricks! Lol.

@@bobjonesrealtor7756 It's quite possible, as there is so much local history and love for that building. It truly is an end of an Era for brick and mortar stores, thanks to online shopping and whatnot. Even from an architectural standpoint, you will never see department stores built like that again, let alone apartment buildings or any other commercial building for that matter.
