This is a good example as to why you should never mix a car industry with politics

This site is now the new home of Bourneville collage, Sainsbury's super market, a hotel, and a car park. and further along the road, a new housing estate, what a waste and so much heart ache for the rover employees that work here for so long with generation after generation of familys working there.

But still employing people on the site. It's merely changing one set of employees for another. A factory making a loss cannot go on forever. At least some employment has come out of it. Best thing that ever happened. Nothing new unfortunately...

Well the british consumer partly helped though, when they started buying foreign cars.

They did because domestic ones where a nightmare. Remember those were the All-aggro days? However, Rover did go under three decades later, so no Red Robbo, Unions or Maggie to blame here.

Problem was they made crap cars for years just update out of out date models they were making back in the 90s. No investment a work force whom thought they were owed a living. I spoke to number of employees in the past. There attitude was who would buy a rover says it all really

so my mini was built there :(
@ef74803 жыл бұрын
Yep was built there and probably stored in the car park by the East works for months before being actually sold. By this time the rust would taken hold and ended up as your rot box, but yeah, I did like the mini..

no , i would say the B,L,M,C employees themselves , coming out on strike at the cock of a hat , over rediculous things. same with Vauxhall , Ford and Rootes/Chrysler . we don't own sod all in the U.K now and we've done it to ourselves . cheers boys n girls

So very sad :( no wonder youths turn into hoodies now , we sold all their future employment prospects down the river for peanuts , RIP British industry , once a world leader now a laughing stock.

Or, maybe shite cars that didn't sell were the problem. It's called cutting losses. Unfortunately the workers suffered..
