I keep thinking that once upon a time, the Delaney neighborhood was home to so many hard-working families who had simply migrated to Gary for a better way of life. I think about the cherished life moments that surely happened within each unit....the birthday celebrations, graduations, and the regular day-to-day interactions between parents, children, and neighbors. I can imagine, that unlike many contemporary residential communities of today, in the Delaney, neighbors knew each other, greeted each other daily, uplifted each other...and BTW, there were no wooden or chain-link fences. I think about my many classmates who lived there including my 11th Grade Roosevelt Prom date. I think about the many scholars, artist, athletes, and others who contributed so much to the great legacy of Roosevelt. So beyond the decay and ultimate demolition of what I'll refer to as the "Delaney Community".....like 2300 Jackson St....for many families, it was simply home.

Mr. battle I would like to start off with I really enjoyed reading this. I often think about how wonderful these places were at one time and I really do appreciate you taking the time and your deep thoughts on this subject. I agree with everything you say and what I really try to do is encapsule these places Because of the good memories for so many people. Your comment really hit me in the heart. I read it three times and also read it to my wife. Thank you so much for taking the time and this comment I am going to pin it to the video so everyone can see it. Thank you once again for your deep thoughts and sharing your memories.

Have you seen Gary is in a series called "Life after People"? I just watched it again on KZbin. The first time I saw it I was so angry. But the show didn't overdo it and showed the truth about decay. It just hurt my soul to no end. I'm originally an Allen county girl. But my children and I all have the zip code we grew up in tatted on our bodies,46408. My son's are states away but still representing home. It may seem foolish to others but I just never cared about others opinions. Keep up the good work Storm. You got this!

West Siiiiide!!!! I'm just wondering what's gonna become of the area after it's torn down, will it just be a empty overgrown area with a fence around it like where Ivanhoe projects was. Gary is actually a gold mine for money lots of potential. Money talks though that's what it's gonna take, that and a good imagination.

If you took away the debris in the yard and cut the grass plus put back the missing sidewalk it would look occupied. It's too late for the garbage carts since you cant cram a building into them. I know that it’s a little confusing for me too. ❤️😎🌸

Every video you do you outdo yourself Sir from the previous one that I see. I just don't have any words about this except to ask why your city allows neighborhoods like this to rot to the ground (rhetorical question). I would go thru with a bulldozer and turn it back over to nature if I ran your city council and urban housing department but that's just me. Keep doing what you do and leave that trail and historical record for whoever is living in Gary in the year 2122. They will want answers. God speed.

That is so thoughtful, we came to Gary in 1961. We lived in the Gary arms apartments. Moved to 5th and Adams. I remember the building of the library on 4th and Adams. Men used to come out once a year to polish the stones that surrounded the bldg. I miss the restaurant's and Wally's market where I would get an orange crush. Things were so simple then. Thank you Storm, sometimes I feel so lost but you remind me that it all was real. I remember things that were long forgotten. Happy things . Thank you for what you do!
