You asked for it and I promised it! Here is the fabled "gmod animation tutorial". I wanted to make this short and sweet, as I believe you can only get good at something by doing it, but I knew that I had some tips and tricks for GMod animations that are pretty helpful.

isn't it quite neat how principles of animations can be transferred anywhere really, whatever program, 2D or 3D, mostly what changes is the stuff you gotta press, draw, pose and whatever. so basically if you know some cool stuff like arcing then you could figure out how to apply it in whatever program you use.

Yeah, I only use those values when I have just two key frames, start and stop. Usually best used on cameras. But manually doing the easing opens up so many more opportunities since you can change any aspect of it.

one question i got about gmod animation is how do you record your animation? by using recording software while you go trough the animation frames or what?

I used to screen record with OBS, but taking a screenshot of every frame and then lining it up in your editing software also works. OBS would probably be best for starters though.

You need to make sure the model is no longer selected with faceposer. I usually have another ragdoll that I use to "reset" faceposer to, so I can see the animation playback

BUT WHAT ABOUT THE CAMERA WORK??? WHY WON'T ANYONE TELL ME HOW TO MAKE DYNAMIC CAMERA ANGLES AND MOVEMENT

Camera work in GMod follows the same principles as regular film-making. I would recommend finding some tutorials on camera angles and the different kinds of shots. The main ones you need to worry about are the rule of thirds and the 180 degree rule. As for actually animating, the camera works just like if you were animating a ragdoll. You can have it move, change FOV, and do all sorts of cool things. It took me a while to get the hang of it though, so I would definitely recommend just playing around with it. (Use advanced cameras by the way, it is another GMod addon) Hope that helps! Perhaps in the future once I am done with college, I make a much more encompassing tutorial.

There is a model called "splode", Basically, I use a tool called "effect resizer" and use that to make it rapidly grow while I am taking screenshots.

There should be a command for it. "smh_playback", basically bind that to a key of your choosing and hold it down to play your animation. For example, I use "P" for playback, so this would be the command, bind "p" smh_playback

Gobilns stole it. Nah, its just that unusual effects are a real pain, especially with animation and still frames like I used in my video, so I just decided not to use it. Its still there though, kinda my battle hat.
