That second race was great but those 3 electric motors and AWD are hard to overcome. You’d have to be making more HP than a 170 makes to reel it in and go around it. Usually ICE cars with 1300hp or more are able to stay in front of Plaids. Anything less and it’s close unless it’s a real lightweight car.
@JonHop110 ай бұрын
@@speedracerjeff Not really, the problem is just putting down the power in a petrol car. As I said in another comment, once launch control software gets more advanced and practical for aftermarket racing purposes, EV's wont really stand a chance. Its an electric car with perfectly controlled power ramp.. Tbh, I have never understood trying to compare EV's to piston/petrol cars. Its pointless comparison. Launch Control Software just isnt quite there yet to control piston engines on launches yet. Porsche is really good, but its so absurdly complicated that it is not practical for aftermarket use yet. Itll get there tho. But then again, much of the fun of drag racing, is dialing in your car. Thats why Tesla's are so lame and boring at the strip. You just run the exact same time every time and there is next to no driver or team input into the car.

@@JonHop1so let me get this straight... you're upset because Tesla built the perfect drag car? 🤔
@JonHop110 ай бұрын
@@TheMadmax0609 huh? upset? Why would I be upset? Tesla is not the perfect drag car, not even close. I was simply pointing out, EV cars are a completely different category. Just like all petrol cars have classes, EV's are their own class. EV's will never be able to compete with combustion drag cars competitively as the power needed would be insane and would make the cars too heavy. Tesla's at the moment, are probably pretty close to the best they can be. I would say probably a low 7 is the fastest an EV could run, unless some miraculous battery technology came out in the future. But to my point about classes, just like there is engine and drivetrain classes, putting an EV up against, lets say a 1200hp rwd stick car, would be a massive advantage for the Tesla. Just as, putting a Tesla up against a 2000whp awd Auto drag car would be a huge disadvantage to the Telsa. I think pinning EV's against combustion cars is just pointless.
@TheMadmax060910 ай бұрын
@@JonHop1 Tesla's at the moment are pretty close to the best they can be??? 👈🤣🤣 Electric performance technology is less than a decade old. Face it dude, internal combustion is done. Even a drag car has to be rebuilt after every run. And a 1200 horsepower car can't run back to back to back at the drag strip.. You have to cool off the engine. It's pathetic! 😂
@JonHop110 ай бұрын
@@TheMadmax0609 Bud, tell me you have no clue what you are talking about, without telling me you have no clue what you are talking about.... Let me educate you kid. EV's use BATTERIES. With current technology, they are at a crossroads as to weight/power output. Meaning, if EV's want to go faster, they will get massively heavier, and they are already incredibly heavy to begin with. Our shop has already tested a Dual Plaid battery setup... The car weighed 7,000 lbs, and had double the power, yet was slower and was destroying the drivetrain... Also, I have no clue what you are talking about with rebuilding an engine every run. Our car is 2000whp BBC and has been on the same engine and internals for 3 years.. I am not sure why you are getting so defensive. I like EV cars. But, for performance purposes, they are incredibly lame and boring. There are pros and cons to each. EV's you get a few runs at max power, then you have to recharge. Whereas combustion engine, you can make unlimited passes all night and just have to refill. You can make cross country drives far easier in combustion cars. Again, pros and cons to both.

That's cool, and amazing tech - props to Elon's crew. But after you do it a few times, what's next? All you really did was spend the money. In the meantime, Paul's on his way to figuring out his car, refining his technique and eventually pushing toward the 8's - maybe even modding the car a bit. He'll feel a sense of achievement, accomplishment, and eventually will be faster than any Plaid because there isn't much they can do to improve the car - hardware or driver wise. Thank god for the free market - you can take either route. But don't knock it even if its not for you.

@4literv610 ай бұрын
Nope lmao summer time fl humidity and da will kill that motor getting stuffed with up to 1.5bar of Heated boost! Even gulping e85 by the gallon! But the plaid won't care at all, cold, hot, high or low da, altitude, tires etc it just doesn't care! And multiple striped down but still st legal tesla plaids weighing about what this demon does have gone 8.7x already. 😎
@4literv610 ай бұрын
@@Charlesbjtown yup summer of 2021 a woman driving a plaid got the first 9.0x slip. Even jay Leno did 9.2x in one in 2021. Multiple striped down plaids around what the demon 170 weighs also stripped, have gone 8.7x with different drivers on different tracks already. No chance a fully stock demon 170 even on a fully prepped track in negative da(Cecil county anyone? With a hot shoe does an 8.9x 😀 It's time tesla uncorked those c.f. beasts, Jay Leno learned they are limited in the semis using the same motor, but fully capable of 500+hp each. So a plaid with a better pack? Or say a max of 10s unlimited drag mode could be a 1,300-1,500hp rocket for 89k brand New. 😎

@ghidorahthetruealpha619810 ай бұрын
After watching your video, I have a much better understanding of what went on in these races, particularly being a long-time drag racer myself. While the 170 may be capable of running a faster time under perfect conditions, the Tesla Plaid is far more consistent with its all-wheel drive and and non-DA focused electric power delivery. Yes you were spinning RACER X, and yes that is part of drag racing, it makes you wish Dodge had engineered in a good all wheel drive system with this car. (And the 2018 Demon as well). And while long term drag racers comprehend what I'm about to say, the average person doesn't: Dodge should put an asterisk by their statement that the car will run "8.9@151mph" under perfect conditions only. BEFORE THEY GET THEIR ASS SUED. Lol

The Plaid might be fast, but it requires no skill to drive it. The computer does all the work for you. I'll never respect these things, no matter how many races they "win". They're like playing a racing game with cheat codes.
@ragingtyga10 ай бұрын
😂 man the cope is real. The Demon is using a "Transbrake" system (which is basically Computer dialed in Traction control) and an Automatic transmission. Racer is doing no actual shifting. Both are doing the same exact thing which is slam the pedal. The only difference is, the Challenger is RWD, and Tesla is AWD. having AWD means the tesla can use Torque vectoring to make up for wheel spin. There's plenty of AWD ice cars can that do the same thing. If computers bother you... then logically you would hate a non manual Mopar with computer guided launch assists

Sweet car! That's my dream car. Also, after seeing how much the entire rear tire was moving I'd check all the cradle and other bushings in the rear to make sure none are loose/smashed/or damaged in any way. The entire assembly was moving forward so much that I thought the tire was going to end up touching the front of the wheel well. That thing has some torque. lol.

It took longer but quite a few got to the 9.56 time and some even beat it. There's already at least one person that has hit the 8s with the 170. Not sure why the misinformation of the old Demon is still being discussed, even by experienced people, but at the end of their statement they do mention that they did eventually prove the old Demon was as fast as they advertised. No I do not have a Demon or even a Challenger or a Mopar.
@Selfmade4410 ай бұрын
@stevedevuono4115 Your last statement is proof that you only believe what u see. Demonology did everything under the sun to achieve those times and the time was 9.65 not 9.56 so if anyone on youtube achieve a 9.56 then it's was definitely not stock form or tune. Alot of guys get on here and tell lies I know that for a fact. Dodge used a lighter version demon the most sticky track and Leah Pritchett which is a light weight professional drag racer. I mean even knocking the tires off Racer X should have atleast seen 150mph trap speeds.

You certainly have the monster of monsters. I realize octane has a big impact on that cars performance in terms of making horsepower as it has just about every conceivable option to make power. While you can certainly add Boostane there is one option you may want to consider adding and that is Methanol/Water injection. I believe it will permit you to pull a little more timing and make more power while under boost. Having the meth kick in at around 4,000 rpm would give you more noticeable power even in that beast! Enjoy the ride and thank you for the video!
