If you think about it, the Demon Dragon fight is your REWARD for beating Ganondorf. Its not that difficult, but is the most thematically satisfying encounter from start to finish.

One detail I love is that they don't call him something like "Dragon Ganon" or "Dragondorf". It's just "Demon Dragon". As in "He threw away his entire identity to become a creature of pure, mindless, malevolent power."

I think the name "Black Dragon" from the french translation is cooler because it opposes him with the White Dragon thematically, wich reinforces the battle's symbolic of Yin and Yang.
@GOSG
@GOSG 15 күн бұрын
The same goes for the German translation in which it‘s not Light & Demon Dragon but White & Black Dragon (Weissdrache/Schwarzdrache). For me, it suits much better this way, especially since it doesn‘t hint anything about the true form of the Weissdrache straight away.

This fight may not have been the most difficult fight in the game, but come on... riding on the back of a dragon as you face ANOTHER dragon by skydiving onto it's back and when you are going for the kill shot a freaking blood moon is lighting up the sky... that's pretty badass for the ending of a game, let's be real. Not everything has to be a For Honor duel or Dark Souls boss. Sometimes it can be just... cool.

What an absolutely beautiful ending to one of the best Zelda games we’ve got. Rauru said “That pride will be your downfall, Ganondorf” right before sealing him away for tens of thousands of years and, in Link’s present, his pride made him swallow his secret stone, he knew what it would do to him, but he was absolutely not going to lose to a kid. His objective was to conquer Hyrule and (presumably) exterminate all life inhabiting those lands, but he ended up sacrificing everything just for a slim chance of winning against Link and the Sages. My favorite iteration of the character is still the Wind Waker one, but God, this is possibly the most in-character Ganondorf we have and I love it.

IMO TOTK's Ganondorf is my favorite as he doesn't stop at anything to get any power. He kills mercilessly, he sacrifices himself to keep that power, he clings on to that power for thousands of years, and his only goal remains to be getting more power and to control Hyrule.

I'm a Dark Beast Ganon defender because the main agrument back then was difficulty vs. spectacle. But man the Demon Dragon topped it in both aspects and then some. Plus it feels much more climactic story-wise because every element from the fight had been foreshadowed, unlike in BotW.
@Dr.Pootis

To me this whole sequence was pretty much BotW's ending done right. Unlike Calamity Ganon, who I beat for the first time in a "just for the hell of it" attempt where I just wanted to see how far I could get, the only reason I didn't get a game over to Ganondorf was because I played _exceedingly_ carefully once I realized his gloom attacks could 2-shot shields and do perma-damage. Then, while I have no problems with DBG itself, the fact that TotK's "cinematic victory lap" happens after a boss that _isn't_ underwhelming arealdy puts it ahead of BotW's. And even then, instead of just setting the "climactic" dial to 11 like in BotW, Aonuma and the dev team set the damn thing to 17, then broke off the knob.

@@speedude0164 Update: Due to my autistic hyperfixation (real), I have actually concluded that the Demon Dragon pianist is in fact playing at least as fast as the Dark Beast Ganon pianist, it’s just that the sections where the pianist is indeed playing fast, are spaced out. So while they play as fast, they don’t necessarily play for the entire song. (Specifically in the first phase of the song, during that, you can only hear twinkles from the piano in the background after the Erhu plays accompanied by the string section.) Other than that, the sections with the Sax Quartet, Blood Moon, and Final Strike all seem to play in at least the same speed as Dark Beast Ganon. I won’t make any bold claims such as “He’s playing faster” or “It’s objectively better”, because 1. I’m not a professional, and 2. You can’t base art off of objectivity.

It was epic indeed. Pleasent to look at, but rather boring mechanically. Whereas I felt that every previous phase was me trying to fight an overwhelming power that's taking me lightly, the dragon phase felt like I was just falling towards some switches I needed to hit... barely any resistance. Of course its a major improvement over beast ganon from BotW, but I think the main difference is that beast ganon in BotW felt very stationary, whereas dragon ganon at least moved a bit around. I still enjoy replaying it for the spectacle though, unlike BotW's last phase.

My absolute favorite thing about this piece is how clearly you can hear Zelda’s lullaby. Any other time you get close to the Light Dragon, you can hear the lullaby, but it’s off. It’s not complete, the notes aren’t exactly the length they need to be, and it sounds sad. Almost mournful. It’s like she’s trying to remember, but can’t because she’s been this form for so long. You get to this battle, and the lullaby is clearly heard. While it’s still not complete, the leitmotif is correct. It sounds triumphant. She still can’t fully remember who she is, but some subconscious part of her remembers Link and that he needs her help. I know I’m overthinking the heck out of this, but it’s still really cool.

Props to the devs for making an epic finale that actually feels genuine, compared to Dark Beast Ganon anyway. I mean come on! DBG felt like an ass pull. A huge boar just pops out of nowhere? Adn you receive the bow of light and a horse to fight *even if you never rode one*!? And that last hit where you have to glide above Ganon with the updraft and shoot midair... It all feels forced! The Demon Dragon fixes most of these issues, both lorewise and gameplay wise. Most of the things that might've felt like ass pulls (Ganondorf turning into a dragon, the white dragon coming to save link, even providing the master sword if you don't have it) are heavily hinted at through the Dragon's Tears questline. This rewards players who sought them out. As for the gameplay itself, aerial movement in TotK is just fun and controls better than horseback riding, and actually using the Master Sword to destroy the weak points feels very satisfying. The visuals are truly stunning and the music doesn't sound like a broken record.

I like to think the demon dragon is an incomplete/improper transformation and that's why he has so many flaws. The eyes, the weak spots that can be attacked and his sacred stone being exposed. No other dragon has these flaws and I'd like to imagine it's from Ganondorf perverting the Tears power for evil.

Personally, I actually liked Demon Dragon, but it was in spite of literally the rest of the entire game. TotK, to me, is hands down the worst Zelda experience I have ever had, with far and away the worst story, only rivaled by Age of Calamity in that regard. But Demon Dragon pretty much sums up why I hate TotK. It looks pretty, has a good OST, and is mindless fun to turn your brain off and ignore the rest of the entire series. But as someone who has pretty much grown up with Zelda my whole life, TotK is a complete betrayal of expectations and basically shits all over the rest of the series. I WISH I could like this game, but I can't. It has no characters I can invest in, they rewrote Ganondorf, reducing him from the complex and tragic character Wind Waker turned him into back to "generic Demon King 57", they furthered the worst concept in all of Zelda, the existence of multiple Ganondorfs which, please no, kill that idea, they pretend no other Zelda game ever happened, the Zonai are the most boring new species introduced to Zelda, they even break continuity with BotW. BotW name drops Nabooru, making OoT canon to it, references Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess, implies Wind Waker with the Rock Salt and Rito, and all in all felt like it was trying to be the Finale to the Zelda timeline... which it failed at spectacularly with Dark Beast Ganon, the worst boss in all of Zelda, who is disappointing for his lackluster strength for the supposed "final form of the curse of Demise" thing they built it up as. Then TotK, poised to right these wrongs and claim its throne as the true finale for the Timeline, pretends none of this happened, even going so far as to have Riju have no idea what the Vah Naboris Helm even is. And then this is all before the reward for all shrines, the Zonai Hero armor, which makes no sense. Rauru and Ganondorf made it pretty clear that all the Zonai died out in the... one year tops they'd been in Hyrule for, so to have a random Zonai Hero tens of thousands of years later show up and fight alongside the Sheikah against Calamity Ganon makes no goddamn sense. AND THEN this is all before TotK can't even write its own story well, with massive plotholes and stupid writing. Ganondorf kills Sonia, Zelda's ancestor, before she had kids. Therefore Zelda shouldn't be alive. If Sonia had kids, you know they would've been mentioned or seen, and we know Zelda is Sonia's descendant because she literally says Zelda has the same power as herself, and that power runs through the royal bloodline as we learn in BotW. SPEAKING OF WHICH, in BotW, the sacred power is the Triforce. Flatly, plainly, inarguably, it is the Triforce. But in TotK, they rewrite the power into the hilarious "Zonai Light and Time Magic", completely forgetting the Triforce even exists. Then we have Zelda, who can't realize the man named "Ganondorf", who holds "many dark ambitions" might maybe be somewhat related to the Calamity Ganon she spent 100 years inside of. And worst of all is Rauru and Sonia undoing Dragon Zelda. It just... happens. Killing Ganondorf had nothing to do with it, they just decided "yup, we can do it now". They could've literally done it when Link gets the Master Sword, but nope. TotK was one of my most anticipated games ever. After the disappointing conclusion of BotW, I was stoked to see Ganondorf again, in his full glory, with all these past games having filled out his identity I was thrilled to see where Nintendo would take this. How would he react to his resurrection? How would he react to the Gerudo, who in two of the three Timelines were genocided into oblivion (the flood in Wind Waker, and the Hylians eradicating them at Arbiters Grounds before Twilight Princess). What was up with Fi in BotW? Was that Demise in that trailer? The longer we went without news, and the more they drip fed us, the higher and higher my hopes got for a true "Zelda Finale" that put a bow on the entire Timeline with finality. Then the game releases, and the first ten minutes are literally perfect. The Imprisoning War (I.E. OoT) is mentioned, dead Ganondorf reanimates, recognizes Link and Zelda, name-drops Rauru, and we're off to the races. Perfect, sublime. Teasing everything I've ever wanted from this game. Fast forward to the end of the game, and all I can do is stare blankly as Zelda is returned from her dragon form, undoing the only praise I could've given the story. I didn't cry at Dragon Zelda, but I did almost applaud. She then delivers the most cringe-inducing dialogue of any Zelda game, the credits roll, and I didn't even bother sticking around for them. (Oh, and fuck the whole "the Timeline is a Loop" idea. That is such a cheap copout of storytelling. Give me a beginning, middle, and end please.)
