If you're watching this video and thinking "Gee, this looks awfully like a Metal Slug game!", you're not wrong. It's pretty obvious Demon Front is inspired by Nazca's excellent series of run 'n gun shooters for the Neo Geo; the gameplay is almost identical, and the art style is remarkably similar too. Don't think, however, that I'm knocking the game - the programmers and artists did a genuinely excellent job in creating something that really does rival Nazca's efforts, and if you're a fan of the genre, this is among the best.
However, unlike Metal Slug, Demon Front isn't quite as straightforward, and there are some nuances to the gameplay - for better or worse - that make this more of a challenge to complete. To unlock the game's true ending, you'll need to find a hidden cave in each of the five levels and unlock a magical treasure hidden within. The keys required to unlock the treasures can be found only by completing secret objectives throughout each level; it's up to you to figure the solutions out, or simply watch this video...
Note: although I normally record footage using 1:1 pixel format, the game's internal resolution of 448 x 224 results in a picture that's stretched horizontally and squashed vertically; it's definitely intended to be viewed in 4:3 aspect correct mode (shown here).

Was just about to include this game in an upcoming video on obscure Run N Guns and came across your gameplay. Fantastic run and it helped me with some strategy for playing through it myself. You can tell there was a vision change by the diff between grim and brightness of background vs enemies/protagonist. I was iffy at first, I thought it was a cheap metal slug clone, but after watching it a bit, it has it owns charm. Neat.

Damn I've never seen this before. IGS is from Taiwan and they also made the excellent beat 'em series Knights of Valour and Oriental Legend, as well as the SFIII-esque Martial Masters. Everything I've seen from them is top quality and I have to assume that what kept them from gaining a foothold in the US was a lack of proper resources/channels and maybe the fact that when they really started hitting their stride, US arcades where already well into their decline.

Everyone is commenting that this game is a knock-off/clone of Metal Slug. Which nonsense because... -A) There is clear effort put into the game's designs as opposed to a knock-off which is made with as little effort as possible . -B) Demon Front has its own mechanics* and outright lacks the most important part of Metal Slug games: The Metal Slugs/Vehicles. -C) Both games are thematically different from one another. MS: Realistic War Spoof; DF: Steampunk Sci-fi. *The game has a leveling system, it can be seen at the top right; Yellow(hearts) is pet level and blue(skulls) is player level. Higher player levels mean better shots from your gun. Pistol bullet changes can be seen here, 2:51 and here 10:52 (it has a little face).

Most interesting thing about this game is definitely the final boss after you gather all five relics. Depending which character you pick, the final boss is a monstrous nightmare version of your familiar.

Huh! I wasn't even aware that there was a half-decent Metal Slug knockoff! I somehow missed this one. Most of the Metal Slug clones just look terrible art-wise, even on the rare chance they manage to nail the gameplay. The only art I don't care for in this game, are the illustrations of the main characters... which are hideous. :P
