@@gilthreyblaunce If the DM already allowed the use of something, it's bad form to turn around and take it back (even in character). Feels bad for everyone involved. A good DM would have realistic consequences instead. For example, let's say a group discovers a loophole in a level 1 spell that kills anything instantly, and the DM allows it not thinking about what might happen. Now the DM is stuck with this loophole (that should get house ruled out next time they start a new campaign), but a good DM still finds a ways to put the kibosh on the loophole. Maybe the players kick so much ass they start getting bounties, assassins, mercenaries, and even entire armies after them. Maybe their misuse of magic has earned them some powerful enemies among the local wizard college. Maybe they're leaving so much death and destruction that they're attracting the attention of denizens of the hells. Maybe rumors have carried their loophole far and wide, and now even a 1st level enemy wizard can pick them off. The players might start to think twice about using that loophole too much when the camp gets jumped at night by a bunch of hired thugs wearing equipment that grants immunity to just that level 1 spell, or some jealous archwizard teleports in a bunch of creatures that are immune to spells in an attempt to keep this magical discovery to himself. Turns out, you can make a lot of enemies by being cheesy. A DM would be remiss if they didn't account for consequences.

A personal favourite that I've heard of was an ivory statue of an elephant, that would transform into a real life, full sized elephant on command. Mostly, the players used it as a heavy transport, but there was one instance when they were under attack, that it's owner instead elected to throw the statue and transform it mid-flight; meaning that the oncoming enemies were hit by a ballistic bull elephant.

While a fun concept, this wouldn’t work in real life. Water jets that cut through material like a blade are ran at about 40k psi. The bottom of the marianas trench only reaches about 15.5k psi. It’d definitely not feel good but it wouldn’t be cutting anything. It’d definitely feel like the world’s biggest water elemental just suckerpunched you, but unfortunately it would be nonmagical bludgeoning damage.

I was so annoyed once during a fight. I planned a gargoyle and animated armour fight, and my player who didn't know their spells just said "dispell on the animated armour." I was very confused, until i looked at the description. Basically it's living armour animated with magic coursing through it. They dispelled it just because i said in the previous fight "you have dispell magic, but it's probably only good for traps." They one shot it. Because i rolled a 1 on it's will save, and it the magic making it alive freaking died.

What is a Demon against a Goblin Nest? If anyone would have found out there is a demon there, they would have raided the place and got rid of it in a week. A goblin nest however stays there for years, buring village after village. This is the real beauty in this serie: Most people do the easy jobs AND think they are better while Goblin Slayer takes the hard job and doesn't even correct them. If they want to be wrong, so be it.

The thing is, they think themselves as big shot heroes for taking high tier quests that involve destroying strong creatures and whatnot. But ultimately they don't give a damn about the people around them. They're just glorified mercenaries, whereas GS is actually a hero for what he does and he does it because it's necessary and the right thing. He doesn't care about the rewards, he just wants to cleanse the world from a filth that destroyed his life and the life of many others.

There's also a starter kit distributed by Wizards of the Coast for new people to get into the game. If you are really really new to the whole role playing thing, start with a fighter as well. This makes me think, After the fight in the sewers when they discovered the mirror portal, what kind of damage would it have done if the dropped mirror in the ocean? As it sunk the water would pass through the portal flooding the goblin settlement. Pull the mirror up after a while switch to a new destination and repeat. They could potentially have killed a lot of goblins.
