Well at least in Dark Souls 3&2 and Bloodborne the elderly man isn't the final boss... If don't count Final DLC of 3 ending, DS 2 SotFS true final story boss, and Bloodborne two endings that end with elderly man🤣. I think at this point Miyazaki and his team have a thing for old men going to far and also being usually the final boss😅. Maybe if we are lucky his last game he will just use himself as the antagonist. When he is 80-90 in good health and wanting to retire 😁.

Regarding the sage's dialogue at the end, consider the following: Ultimate comprehension in the world of Demon's Souls leads to the understanding that reality is *defined* by comprehension. Reality is a kind of collective comprehension shared by all souled beings, but the greater one's comprehension, the greater an impact they have on defining reality. However, if there's only one souled being, and they possess absolute comprehension, can that being be anything other than a god? Your character, through comprehension, understands that their strength is not defined by their muscles, but by what they believe their strength to be. The same goes for agility, endurance, and all other stats, but most especially Luck. After all, once you understand that comprehension impacts reality, luck stops being luck, and the outcome of events becomes more and more what you decide they should be. However, there's also a kind of skewing of reality that comes from this viewpoint. After all, if comprehension determines reality, then does that not mean that nothing is truly real save for that which has the power to comprehend? And by having greater comprehension, you are more real than others. If the gulf between how real you are and how real others are becomes great enough, then is killing them and taking their souls, their comprehension truly so terrible? After all, to you they are no more real than the characters in a picture book are to them. This is why those with the greatest comprehension in Demon's Souls seem to be the more sociopathic to others. After all, one of the most common characteristics of sociopathy is a belief that oneself is the only thing that matters, the only thing that's truly real. Discovering that this is not only true, but one of the fundamental rules of the cosmos, is certain to lead even the sanest and most rational of men to becoming as evil as any demon.

Well, Yuria and Saint Urbain definitely don't follow this mold, and neither does the Maiden in Black; who is perhaps the most terrible demon to ever exist. Yuria came to Boletaria lusting for souls, but came to a revelation and turned away from a selfish path. Saint Urbain straight up tells you that everyone who uses the soul arts (ironic, considering that Miracles fall under this umbrella too) must be *exterminated*, including Yuria and the Maiden. He's extremely sociopathic and yet blind to the truths of the world.

@@TheSuperRatt Yuria once lusted for souls, but instead found suffering in Boletaria. Suffering teaches empathy, the antithesis to sociopathy, and so she came to hate the soul arts she practiced since they inflicted suffering on others. As for Saint Urbain, he is not 100% wrong about the dangers of the Soul Arts. After all, the proliferation of the Soul Arts is what caused the entire mess. However, at this point, killing practitioners of the Soul Arts is like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. The ship is already sinking, and small actions like that won't heal the massive gash that's taking in thousands of gallons of water. At this point, killing the Archdemons is the only way to stop this mess, and killing the remaining sane practicioners of the soul arts is the same as depriving yourself of of a powerful weapon that could be used to attain that goal.

I’ve been thinking on this interesting lore connection I found between dark souls 1 and 3 relating to the knights of Gwyn. I’ve had it on my mind for a while and wanted to find a place to bring it up, and I suppose this wouldn’t be a bad place. Plus, I really haven’t noticed anyone pointing out this connection, so I feel like it’s pretty unnoticed. So if anyone’s interested in my rambling, here it is: As many of you should know, there are rings that represent each of the 4 knights of Gwyn. Hornet ring for Ciaran (increases backstab damage), Hawk ring for Gough (increases travel distance of arrows), Leo ring for Ornstein (strengthens thrust weapon counter attacks), and the Wolf ring for Artorias (increases poise). They can all be found in dark souls 3, and I feel their placements are rather symbolic. Let’s start with the simple one, the Wolf ring. You get it by reaching rank 2 in the Watchdog of Farron covenant. It’s already clear as day that this covenant and the Abyss Watchers are related to him, so this one is the easiest connection to make. Plain and simple, so moving on. The Hawk ring was an interesting one that I glazed over a lot. You get it by killing the archer giant in the Undead Settlement, or waiting until later in the game for him to die of natural causes. The symbolism is actually really clear here. I mean, a giant who’s also a really good archer? That is already a slight reference to Gough, and the fact this NPC is the one who drops his ring is just another big connection to him. I find it really cool to be honest. Such a fitting reference to the great archer himself. Now we come to the references that are likely much harder to see for some. The Hornet ring is within the Untended Graves, just outside the dark version of Firelink Shrine. At first its location seems meaningless, but the best reason I found is due to the exact placement of it and the conditions for making it appear. It is in front of a grave with a Farron Greatsword leaning against it. This is the same grave where we find Hawkwood occasionally praying at in the normal Firelink Shrine. Not only that, but the ring won’t show up there if you haven’t killed the Abyss Watchers yet. This is much like how you meet her in the original dark souls, as she shows up in Artorias’s arena after he is killed, beside a tiny grave that could be inferred to be his. The fact the ring shows up here after killing the Abyss Watchers, a boss that is already very related to Artorias, is just a clear reference to her. And finally, the Leo ring is found in Irithyll, found inside a chest in the room with the Silver Knights. What made the symbolism hit me was looking at the other 2 chests beside it. One holds Smoughs hammer, the other holds a Divine Blessing. This is most likely meant to reference the fact that Ornstein and Smough worked side by side in the original dark souls, so these 2 items being put side by side has to be intentional. The Divine Blessing could also symbolize Gwynevere, who the two guarded. Like, I strongly believe in the intentional close together placements of these items. It’s such a clear connection. For an added bonus about references to Ornstein in dark souls 3, you find his armor and weapon in Archdragon Peak, in the big room accessed after defeating the Nameless King. This plays into the theory that Ornstein followed the Nameless King, who is also believed to be the firstborn of Gwyn, in his path of siding with the dragons rather than killing them, which is also supporting the fact that the Ornstein you fight in dark souls 1 is just an illusion of him, the real having left his post long ago. These were all the best connections I could come up with. It’s all no mere coincidence, the placements are actually very clever and are subtle references to these great knights. If you read all of that, I really appreciate it. This is a detail I just suddenly noticed one day, and I felt compelled to bring it up somewhere. I love these games dearly, and enjoy how we can find out new things even now. Do tell me what you think of this whole thing.

@Mexican Joker No it's not. There are several legitimate differences between the remake and the original, and it's 100% fair to say you liked something better in one or the other, or that you thought one version was more horrifying than the other. The two games have stylistic differences. Personal taste is not "nostalgia". Some people like aspects of the original more, get over it.
@MarkHogan9943 жыл бұрын
@Mexican Joker Stop dismissing other people's preferences as nostalgia. I could very well do the same and say your opinion is recency bias. But that wouldn't be fair, now would it ? I played the original very recently so there was zero nostalgia for me. It was just legitimately stylistically different from the remake, and more atmospheric imo. The remake is still awesome but not every opinion you don't like is "nostalgia".
@44gouranga3 жыл бұрын
@@MarkHogan994 I agree. Lord Rydell's screams sounded a lot creepier, louder and more in pain, which really disappointed me in the remake.

Finally! A return to form in your format! I like the newer stuff like the 15 things or the long format videos telling the whole story but I feel this format is why I really loved your early work and why I subscribed. It tells the story in more depth for each area and it doesn’t overburden you with everything either.

This is the first Demon Souls video I've watched from Vaati after finally getting a PS5 and playing through the game, and it makes his analysis so much more immersive. I hope everyone can grab a PS5 and play this game soon, What a perfect spooky Halloween entry too. I almost can't describe how creeped out I was by this place but also drawn in to exploring it.

Another detail I just noticed is that the “knowledgeable sage” tells you to use demon souls for power and not to lull the Old One to sleep. But the “dark witch” warns you about the cost of soul power and rejects using demon souls for her own power.

One minor question I still had, was the Queen that followed Allant’s lead, in terms of re-embracing the soul arts, the same one that used the soul arts before the first scourge and was given an arch stone, or is she a descendent of that original Queen, much like Allant XII and the ambitious King who was given an Archstone (Allant I presumedly)
@JurzGarz3 жыл бұрын
I’d assume she’s a descendant, but I think it’s also plausible, given her vast magical power, that she was some sort of immortal demigod.
