Sorry for the delay on this one, I was pretty sick for a week there. Feeling better now though! Would also like to make a slight correction on the point at 6:48 - the English says a "malicious force" left behind the Northern Regalia, but the Japanese translation more accurately posits that it was left behind "due to malice", the implication being that man might have favoured a sword that scales with their good or evil.

When my Crest fallen warrior died in my hub I actually cried a little.. I would talk to him after every successful mission to update him because he was the first npc I had met. Then, he stopped wanting to talk to me, which I thought was strange but didn't pay too much attention to. After my next successful mission.. He'd passed and dropped his storied hero soul. I stood there staring at it for 10 minutes.. Gave a bow emote, collected it and put it into my storage. I am now NG+7 and even though he respawns, I have kept his soul in my storage since my first playthrough. I have also never talked to him again because I don't want him to disappear. If that doesn't show the type of impact an npc has on a player in a souls series, idk what will. Only today have I found out his name is just "Crest fallen knight" because I have never talked to him since that day. Man I love this game.

Funny enough... I think I am getting vibes that Demon Souls actually is the answer to the whole Dark Souls franchise. As such, I will be researching this deeply.
@nikitas18413 жыл бұрын
To say that there is such a thing as the answer to the whole franchise is quite an assumption. I wish there was one, but there isn't. Just look at DS 3's development. Things being cut or shuffled around at the last moment. It really doesn't go as deep as we'd like. Besides, looking at say, DS 1, there isn't much to answer. The story is pretty much self-contained, with a few murky spots to keep the intrigue.
@vhalrougelarfouxe3 жыл бұрын
@@nikitas1841 it is quite an assumption. Also, this will be a long post so brace yourself. Also, DS 1 has the most mystery surrounding it. There are too many things that are needed to be answered. The appearance of the Serpents, Manus and Oolacile, the Fall of Izalith, the Abandoned Anor Londo, Nito and Pinwheel, the Conspiracy of Rebellion, Havel and his Knights, Ash Lake and the Last Scaled Dragon, Seathe and the Firekeepers, and finally, the Dark Ending with numerous Serpents. These topics are not just intriguing but integral to the story of the whole franchise. Demon Souls is the answer, for me, because there are too many correlating evidences between universes. Let me give you one answer that I finally realized. Fog Gates. They had been always seen before fighting powerful beings. It has been an assumption that all of it are generated when you are fighting a boss. I had made 2 Hypothesis. Hypothesis 1: Fog Gates are not actually there because powerful beings are behind it. It is actually formed around beings with significant destiny. The ones that can change the Fate of the World. Exhibit A. The Moonlight Butterfly It is integral to the Witch Questline. You will never see the summon sign in New Londo if you didn't kill the Butterfly. Even if you kill the Four Kings, the Witch's set won't be seen on the cliff unless you kill the Butterfly. Exhibit B. The Capra Demon The demon is an anomaly to the lower city. Why is there a demon in that area? More importantly, it held the Sewer Key. Only one answer is available. That Capra demon is sane. He hold the key because the sewer there is his home, along with his cohorts, the Butchers. No one can ever enter the Sewer without killing him first. Even the Master Key cannot be used. Hypothesis 2: The fog gates lead to a parallel universe. It has been known that the timeline in Lordran is messed up, allowing summon signs to be used. Exhibit A. The first fog gate of Sen's Fortress It is quite confusing when you enter that fog gate and then see that the balls are rolling to another side. No one just made a quick switch and pushed the lever towards our way. No Lizardmen in that area too. Unless, the player is actually stepping into another universe in which the ball is already rolling that way. As you can see, I made logical answers using Demon Souls as my frame. This is like FNAF. Using the books to solve the game. Anyway, this is fun for me and I am actually getting answers to my speculation. I will be brawling with in the Vaati discord again.
@nikitas18413 жыл бұрын
@@vhalrougelarfouxe About DS 1's mysteries: that's exactly the thing. You assume they need to be answered, but they don't really. Not all of them. Some of those you mentioned have solid theories explaining them, others don't, and never will, as there just isn't enough information. And that's fine. That's how the story is structured. About your theories: no offence, but that's mostly grasping at straws rather than logic. Don't listen to me though, have fun doing your thing. It's just that as years go by, there is less and less actual connections in the lore to discover, and more and more grasping at straws, overthinking things and making stuff up going on, and I guess I'm just over all of that.
@vhalrougelarfouxe3 жыл бұрын
@@nikitas1841 thank you. Sometimes, we find answers by grasping straws. I find fun in looking into these mysteries and definitely, I am not over it. Must be the obsessive one on me. Thank you for being a good narrator. Thank you for not sounding like you are reading a speech in middle school. Also, good job with the content and editing. Thank you for not trying to make stupid jokes that don't fit in. I've been on a kick watching dark souls lore videos and I am getting sick of how bad most people are at speaking. You are an oasis in a desert I've been wandering in for days. You rock. Make more of these. I will now like, subscribe, and watch more of your videos.

I played the original Demon's Souls over 10 years ago, and I couldn't make heads or tails of the story and didn't understand a bit about the mosters I fought or why they had weird names. After a decade, I finally understand the general premise. Thank you, and Merry Christmas.

I can't get over how good this game looks. Paired with the profound lore and captivating atmosphere, this might be my favorite entry in the Souls series. Thanks for exploring every nook and cranny of the series, VaatiVidya. Can't wait to see what you do with Elden Ring.

Quite an informative video, as always! One word of feedback: the pacing seemed a bit fast. A few extra moments of pause between segments may have made things flow more naturally.

Seconded. Though maybe he just didn’t want to edit the extra footage, or upload a heckin chonker of a vidya. Which is reasonable.

I think there's one detail I interpreted differently. Based on that singular old talisman, it seems to me that "god" and the old one are the same being and the source of both miracles and sorcery. I think the initial creation of the souls was an act of the old one, and it's secondary arrival was out of it's hunger to reclaim those souls. Now, the old one is clearly more or less mindless acting on instinct alone, so while mankind ascribes ideas like "punishment" to it, I think it's just not acting with those thoughts in mind. It simply "is". Spreading a seed of souls into the world where they can divide and flourish means it gets a greater meal when it comes to collect. I also interpret the "first and second day" to not quite be literal days as they are "ages".

@@AProperNoun Another one that works. I'm admittedly applying a little parsimony in my interpretation.

I'd like to think that all the SoulsBorne Worlds are connected. Each part of the series represents a step of humanity, and its interaction with ''soul energy.'' Demon's Souls is the earliest iteration, where humanity interacts with soul energy in its pure form of souls. But like the coca leaf and cocaine, the pure form of soul energy was too much for humans, mutating them into monsters when utilized in large quantities. But more importantly, it was the exact conduit that much more powerful beings used, which directly caused humanity to succumb to greater forces. The Dark Souls series represents soul energy in the form of fire. This form was less potent, more transmutable, and much easier to acquire and utilize. However, the biggest issue with fire is that it fades, and it needs to be constantly fueled by something. Thus, as time went on, the power of the fire became weaker and weaker as the energy was spread so far apart that each generation of kindling became weaker and weaker, until there was no fire strong enough to support the ancient bloated societies that had depended on it for so long. Bloodborne represents the soul energy in blood. There's a lot of blood to go around, which means the energy is innately thinly spread. That being said it, it can still be acquiesced in one location, like a bloodline. Thus powerful blood could be acquired and utilized much like a soul. But Blood, when stored for long periods of time, rots. And when rotting blood meets a human host, the twisted energy within the blood transforms people into beasts. Finally, with Sekiro, you enter a sort of world we enter today, where the beings known as humanity no longer interact directly with 'soul.' Instead, we channel it through faith, talismans, and rituals. The average human interacts rarely with soul. This is perhaps because, over the previous cycles, humanity learned that its dependency on soul energy was the direct cause of their downfall. Its like an addictive substance. Once consumed, you rely on it. And because it gives you great power, cultures, societies, and ideologies form around it. But when the source becomes scarce, or desired by greater beings, humanity always loses in the end. So basically the SoulsBorneKiro series is about drug dependency. Thank you for attending my TedTalk

I am so excited for these videos. I was heavy into Demons Souls back in the day, but the lore was never dived into by the community, not this deeply and cohesively anyways. This is what I desired so strongly back then. I never cared about Darks Souls, never really even got into it after the first one, but I love love love Demons Souls. Can't wait for these videos. Can't wait to play it some day.
