theres more in the volumes, side story, and databooks. theres a really good moment in rengokus story of her starting out as his student and she couldnt train with him because she was so hungry. also her and rengoku go on a mission and see a child whose mom is standing by. she is criticized for her hair by the mom and the fact she is using a katana but then the child makes fun of rengokus hair calling it weird and he jokes saying that he must have ate too much fried shrimp and it cuts to the flashback of her fiance but then rengoku reassures her looks dont matter. never noticed both designs are similar in that their hair color is weird.

I agree with many points on this video. I do think that she’s a good character. I love her positivity, empathy, and her optimism. I think her character as a whole is very refreshing. The other demon slayers joined the corps out of resentment towards demons after losing their loved ones. Mitsuri, on the other hand, joined in order to help others while also being herself. Unlike the other hashira, she has dreams and not just goals. Her entire character focuses on love and positivity, and I really enjoy how her character arc is about learning to love herself. She learns to embrace her “flaws” that were never even flaws in the first place. As much as I love this kindhearted girl, it pains me to see how underutilized she was. She was definitely the most crucial character in s3 because she literally held off Zohakuten(Hantengu’s most powerful form) until sunrise. Tanjiro stated that Mitsuri was their only hope, and I agree. However, she literally had ONE episode to herself. 3 episode titles mentioned Muichiro, and Mitsuri had ONE episode. Not gonna spoil anything, but I also feel she was criminally underutilized in the final arc. She definitely helped out and saved the others a lot for sure, but compared to the other hashira, her role was notably less significant. As a manga reader, her writing was definitely better than some other hashira, but when it comes to utilization, she was done dirty.

I totally agree about the rengoku thing. I have the corps records book and I read the manga, so I knew from the start that Kyojuro trained Mitsuri. AND from how he was made to have an impact on Season 2, I was honestly rooting for Season 3, because that was where I expected Mitsuri's connection to him to be put into showcase. But somehow, he was shown as an impactful person for Tanjiro and Muichiro, and yet not his own tsuguko. And most people skip the end credits too, even AFTER the last episode. I understand they wanted to shed light on their deceased hashira before the finale, but to exclude him from his own tsuguko's story is too much, even if the infinity castle arc may have shown parts of it too

Mitsuri is the most reliable Character in all demon slayer, the most human. The author says that her muscle density were 8 TIMES more DENSE than the normal HUMAN, that makes her By paper the most physically strong human ever. The author said that he was terrible with flame breathing… but guess what; she with only 6 months using flame breathing passes the final selection, then by 18-19 became a hashiras with less than 2 two years of training, while all the others had more than 5 ys of training💀 Mitsuri love breathing should be legitimately way stronger than flame, since she uses the bases of flame breathing, but adding her immense strength, soft woman muscles, her extreme flexibility, her incredible thin, flexible, long and difficult sword with THE MOST UNIQUE AND EASY THE MOST Agile and powerful fighting style. Her breathing is just so broken that the author didn’t let her use her breathing ones she stopped holding back agains zohakuten. She got incredibly nerf agains nakime and muzan 💀💀 She passed from dogwalking the 4Upper alone in base/mark, to dont being even able to scratch nakime, and gets worse… she was always distracted even though MUZAN was infront of her 💀 Despite We never saw one single time her mark after she unlocks it agains zohakuten right after tank a fatal attack 💀 Conclusion: most nerf hashiras, used just to make the others shine and look stronger than the natural genius of Mitsuri who was blessed just like yorichi and gymei with Way super human strength and flexibility.

Toyed with by the new UPM4 and completely taken out of the fight by Muzan, all for the sake of some of Obanai’s character development and backstory. She gets one moment against Muzan at the last second, before getting hit again and eventually dying from blood loss. It’s so tragic how lowly invested her character is compared to the other Hashira. Little to no contribution in the final two arcs, hit by 2 attacks and dying. One of the most unique characters in the cast. Helping people not out of anger, vengeance, or past encounter with demons, but simply out the goodness of her heart. The metaphorical ray of sunshine among Demon Slayers Corp completely shut out in the end. I hope the movies do her more justice than the manga

I still remember waiting for a whole week because I thought the end credits of Muichiro's episode meant that she would get an entire episode too. It's quite stupid when you think that Tengen got a full episode and he's not even a Hashira. Sorry to the Tengen fans, but he got a full season. I think the problem is that the screentime on the Swordsmith Village arc is too panned to Muichiro than Mitsuri. And I really didn't appreciate her introduction scene. Like, who thinks to introduce a character like THAT?! I don't even know her and I'm already seeing her b**bs (censored in case KZbin hides the comment). I really think Flame Story should have gotten animated, at least as an OVA, because it shows how she developed her style, which is important to show, and also more Rengoku, second best Hashira in my opinion after Mitsuri. Mitsuri Kanroji's Secret is good too, it's where she asks herself if her trauma is "enough" once she learns what the others have gone through. Basically what I'm saying is that to learn about her, you have to read the side stories. OH, I forgot to add I'm also annoyed that there was apparently an extra few minutes of the Hashira Training movie about Mitsuri that they added after a bit of time, like, 2 weeks after the first screening I think. Well my country decided to be the first country that wasn't Japan to show it and since they added the extra scene after screenings ended in my country, I DIDN'T SEE IT. And when I searched for this extra scene, I couldn't find it. MITSURI LOST MEDIA EXISTS, PEOPLE. That's how bad it is. I'm pretty sure no one has read this comment to the end and if you do, wow, you made it to the bottom! I'm happy you did. Can you tell I'm obsessed with Mitsuri? I was going to go on a tangent again but I won't. And... That's the end of this comment.

For the part where you say Mitsuri doesn’t go through any arcs or anything through her story, I think from what I remember it was about accepting failure maybe? During the episodes she seemed reaaallly afraid of giving up even though she wanted to badly. And I think most of this was that she placed her value in her success. Also I thought it was said that she joined the Hashira to find somewhere to belong where she wouldn’t be judged and ALSO pick up a lover along the way. This would explain why she places so much in her success. Because it might make her feel unworthy of many things or make her feel like she doesn’t belong with the Hashira. But at the end, she finds out that she’s where she needs to be and she’s valued so much by everyone. I might be wrong, but that’s what I remember getting from her story.

Just makes me a bit sad and I only found out about Mitsuri being rengokus.. tsukugo? )Forgive me I forgot how it’s spelt/what the word is) only after a bit. I don’t remember exactly how I figured it out but I wish we could’ve (as explained in the video) seen more scenes of her and rengoku when they were training and her making her own breathing style. I feel like the Mitsuri in the show should be her only after a few weeks/maybe months after she became a hashira (not sure if that’s cannon but again it’s never explained) so that would kinda make sense bc (manga spoilers) it would make more sense why she didn’t participate all that much in defeating Muzan in the manga.

Me personally, I dont think necessarily she is worse character for not getting alot development, but I don't necessarily think it is a bad that a lot of her motivations and moments showing her growth were either left of chopping board or disregarded entirely. I think a lot of people issues with her is that she has all of what is need to be deep fleshed out character and then just falls flat. It probably had something do to with the fact that she is one of the few female characters in the show and people are highly concerned with how they are protrayed in anime. However this might just because I didn't get my hopes up, not because I thought she would bland far from it but because I normally approach all characters like that from personal standpoint, so Mitsuri just hit that sweet spot of being a character that I could get behind. I get it it's the hope that kills you and the expectations people have for her character, but I think what she brought to the table is enough to appreciate her for who she is currently. Misturi issues all stem from that fact it she seems to be in a state of limbo between being a navie rockie slayer, trying to find herself and achieving her life's purpose and being an experienced hashira, who has already found herself while being close to achieving her dreams. This where I raise counter point, in saying I think that's alright because she isn't best or the worse, she isn't really complex or too simple. She doesn’t need to be one or the other and definitely doesn’t need to fit into some box that defines her character. She can be all of that and more beacuse people in real life are neither one thing or the other (some of us might have contradictions about herself in terms of who we view oursleves and the rest of the world view us and feel like forved to conform to one thing or the other) but I believe we are collection of all the things that make us who we are. Mitsuri is who she is and I like that the narrative isn’t really trying to push her to be anything she apparently "needs to be to become a fulfilling character" because it shows that she is fine with who she is as person. Life isn’t some sort of easily predictable trajectory and that's where Mitsuri breaks the mold and has already discovered who she is and wants to be without having to follow the "I need to follow the how to be a good character blueprint" to a fault which needs tragic trauma or forced drama to kick of a character's journey and get the to the end. I don’t know why but it feels fresh to me. She isn’t rushing to complete her character journey, she doesn’t spend her time thinking about overcomplicated issues and problems and just chilling in the moment on her way through her own life. She is very passive character throughout and I think I like that you can go on very a simple journey which doesn’t need you to have a life changing moment to get you off your butt to figure out who you are and what you want. Mitsuri just is, I don't think there is anything wrong about that.
@miguelrubin892111 күн бұрын
Long comment, but there are no spoilers! :) Hard agree with everything the video said about Mitsuri! Demon Slayer really dropped the ball on its female characters. In a way, it’s expected-this isn’t our first rodeo critiquing how women are written in shonen anime. But Mitsuri stands out as the most egregious example in this series. At times, I couldn’t help but feel that the author was writing Mitsuri with the same misguided intent as Zenitsu-intentionally or not. Ironically, her limited screen time might have saved her from fully devolving into the kind of parody Zenitsu became. What’s more puzzling is that the author clearly knows how to write decent female characters. Tamayo and Shinobu are good examples. While they’re not groundbreaking (nothing in Demon Slayer really is, to be honest), they’re well-characterized, have believable goals and motives, and possess unique strengths that are respected both within the story and by the author. This is where Mitsuri’s character fails. It doesn’t feel like the author respects her. The video’s point about Mitsuri’s backstory and behavior not aligning is spot on. As the Love Hashira, someone whose entire past was shaped by others’ (primarily men’s) expectations of her, her arc was perfectly set up to show her breaking free from that pressure. Yet, that potential never culminates into anything meaningful-neither for her nor for Tanjiro and the others. In typical shonen fashion, the life lessons and role models for Tanjiro are exclusively male (Rengoku, Muichiro, Giyuu). Only they are allowed to inspire his search for meaning and growth, sidelining Mitsuri and denying her the same narrative weight. (Relevant comment ends here, now for some rambling!) I vividly remember reading the Season 3 arc in the manga and learning about Mitsuri’s backstory. When I saw her backstory, and that her reason for joining the Corps was to "find a strong husband," something clicked. Structurally, it made sense: her desire to belong, to cling to an illusion of normalcy within the confines of societal expectations, was still there. At that moment, I was sure her development would involve realizing that she hadn’t truly broken free from those expectations as much as she thought she had. The story seemed primed to take her in a direction where Tanjiro, Nezuko, and Genya would help her see that her love was so much more than what others had taught her it ought to be. Her love for her new family in the Corps could’ve been enough to inspire a life full of meaning and joy! But… nothing like that ever happened. Mitsuri was never given that kind of introspection. To me, this feels like such a missed opportunity. It could’ve made her a far more compelling Hashira and companion to Tanjiro. Imagine if her journey had led her to realize that her search for a "strong husband" was futile and that true freedom came from recognizing the love and strength already surrounding her. This could’ve beautifully segued into her romance with Obanai. Oh... the irony-searching for a "strong husband" only to fall in love with someone much weaker than herself.

Also the crying scene after she was fighting zohakuten in my opinion wasn't needed to be written because in my opinion it made her appear as she was weak and scared (it was probably not intended but a lot of people use that scene to hate on her and downplay her) (Also i was gonna say some stuff in the manga but you said no spoilers allowed 😂 so i hope when demon slayer finishes you can speak about this topic again)

I agree with almost everything you said except for one thing… I don’t really think it’s lame that she wants a husband. She’s literally the love hashira. If every single female character ONLY wanted to fall in love that would be a good point but it’s literally just the character that is all about love! A lot of women want to fall in love and even put it as a major life priority. Myself included. It’s not wrong. I hate how everyone in the internet acts like it’s wrong for women to pursue love and that we are somehow victimizing ourselves by caring about love. Love clearly isn’t this characters only trait. She’s literally a hashira. Male characters prioritize love all the time and balance it with everything else and no one bats an eyelash. Zenitsu is a perfect example. He’s literally obsessed with women and wanting to get married but no one is saying anything is wrong with him. Trying to be a perfect feminist by saying female characters who value falling in love are bad for women is just a terrible take. And a double standard. Believe it or not there are women out there who actually want to fall in love and prioritize it and that’s not a crime! It doesn’t make us bad people. We aren’t victims! We just want a beautiful romance! That all said I don’t hate you. You just kind of stepped on a nerve that’s been bothering me for awhile. 😂 It’s a pervasive issue in my opinion that love has somehow been socially criminalized for women on the internet particularly in western culture and I hate it so much. Anime and k-pop seems to be the last safe space for these types of stories for women.

I think Demon Slayer in general has this big issue of setting up such incredibly fun characters. Like, characters that are great in design, tackle interesting concepts, set in an interesting time period where even exploring an absolute everyman would have been interesting just by how unique Japan's situation was at the time. But as great as almost all these characters are in concept, their execution fails these great concepts on so many levels. Mitsuri is an especially bad offender of that. I love the fact that her past isn't affected by demons. How she didn't experience any tragic losses, but just the "normal" struggles of a young woman at that time. For once not a traumatized 12 year old that gets sweet talked into joining the DS corps but someone who willingly joined because they want to help people and because that organization is full of people that stand out just as much as her. That's how I'm reading her character at least, idek how much of that might actually just be headcanon lol. Anyway, almost all relevant characters in DS really needed more fleshing out and in some cases the grace to not be treated like walking gags 80% of the time (namely Mitsuri, Zenitsu & Inosuke) If I had to say which characters are affected the worst though, I think it's definitely Mitsuri, Nezuko and Zenitsu. Those three have so much wasted potential that it really hurts. Imagine if Gotouge had been able to decide how mature and self aware Nezuko was supposed to be. If we had seen more of her before she became a demon. If her relationship with Zenitsu was actually taken seriously and had effort put into it instead of having been turned into an annoying joke that wasted every second of screentime it got. Imagine if Zenitsu's relationship with [redacted, sorry I only saw the pinned post after sending this lol] had been explored properly before... uhhhhh stuff happens. If his entire character hadn't been turned into a background joke for half the story. If they had actually properly explored his life before training under Jigoro, because from the little we do know it is incredibly personality-defining for him. Sigh I just... I love DS and its characters, but there's also so many things that are just.. sad, because I know they could have been so much better if the mangaka had put more thought and time into their story

I would say you were a little critical on your comparison because some of the character have some very impactful backgrounds with death and despair, and she doesn't, that alone is a defining factor to her, let alone not having the same kind of cause to risk your life to take out demons. I will say though them not talking more about her and the Flame Hashira is a tragedy, I totally did not connect that she was trained by him at all it totally went over my head even after watching all season to Swordsmith many times, I could get if they wanted less about the Flame Hashira with fear it would become overused, but tbh I have zero fear that would ever happen Rangoku was and will be one of the most important Hashira's to our main character for the foreseeable future. They need to think more on that idea, If she was trained by one of the more important side character to come to Demon Slayer them skipping it or glossing over it was just wrong and a total sin against the story arc of the character. 1 min in the Training arc huh that is crazy also each Hashira should have been given a whole episode or more.

I rewatched Demon slayer and Mitsuri is actually not just a fan service character wait wait before My comment gets deleted I'm just saying she her character is perfect she trained under Rengoku and she eats a lot lot a lot and she gave connection and life to the hashira I mean Iguro and Mitsuri she didn't choose to be that just like Shonobu did she is just that way her backstory gave a lot of explenation and it's just the swordsmith village but when it come to hashira training she didn't hold back and trained her given student she was the successor of Rengoku

You failed Mitsuri, she's one of the most well written characters in fiction.

I didn't say she's not well written, I said the anime doesn't highlight what makes her great

Ngl her character is actually kinda annoying. It might be her voice in the anime both sub and dub but I oddly just never liked Mitsuri
@gallenberger115 күн бұрын
Probably because they never bothered to give her depth
@NathanielOSoup14 күн бұрын
@ that’s not really a fair argument considering that the other hashira also have little to no depth let she honest here there only really a few hashira that were given that chance to have more storylines and I would’ve rather they had it then she did since she’s far less compelling in terms of relatability and narrative to the story
@gallenberger114 күн бұрын
@NathanielOSoup I do not agree the other hashira have little depth

@@NathanielOSoup I think they are generally pretty good especially for the time allotted. None of them are in my top 5 or anything, but I do think most are handled well

I mean, she's a female character in a shonen series. That's just the expected. I know there are some exceptions, namely Gintama or Fairy Tail, but this is true in most cases.
@gallenberger116 күн бұрын
That's fair. It's a little disappointing considering the other hashira didn't have that issue though.

The one Demon Slayer failed was Nezuko. Mitsuri is a side character. We were never meant to get far with her. Nor any of the Hashira. She gets as much screentime as anyone else. A back story, an awesome fight scene and a few interactions with Tanjiro. Just like all other Hashira. People may like her, but she's just a supporting character. This is a case of crying over a favorite
@gallenberger115 күн бұрын
@@MahiMahi-yu5jo I'll push back on that because every other hashira was treated well. Only Mitsuri gets this treatment
@MahiMahi-yu5jo15 күн бұрын
None of the Hashira were treated well. Giyuu disappeared for more than 80% of the show. Rengoku just died on his first showing. Shinobu, Sanemi, Gyomei get their limelight only in the Infinity Castle Arc. Obanai only gets his at the very end of the series. That is way poorer than Tokito and Mitsuri who get their own arcs. The only one with more screentime than them is Uzui. So no, you are crying over a favorite SIDE character Nezuko, on the other hand, needed more time. We needed her perspective. We needed to feel her loss and her conviction. But we got none of that.
