Gurenge does mean 'red lotus' but it's the Japanese version of the Chinese characters. In the "red" of gu-renge in English we would probably describe as crimson - which happens to also be a color motif in the performance video - the color of her dress, the hue of her hair, and the detail on her headset. I think Lisa is a fan of crimson, too. Gurenge - crimson lotus - is an important image for songs like this, as the lotus is an important image to Japanese culture, in particular Buddhism. A lotus is known as a flower which only blooms in muddy waters and cannot thrive in clean or sanitized waters. Thus, a lotus is often used as an image of something which thrives in spite of the dirt/dirtiness. As for the CJK languages helping with pitch - in Korean - there is not the same time of pitch accent or pitch tone as in Japanese or Chinese. In Japanese, pitch accent in phrases is important - the same word have different meanings based on the pitch of the mora/syllables of each phrase and in Japanese pitch is standardized in phrases/sentences. In English, we stress (make louder) a syllable or word to change the meaning. Thus, in Japanese, "ha-shi" means different things if the first part of the word has a high followed by a low pitch, a low pitch throughout, or a low followed by a high pitch. While, a sentence doesn't sound "right" if the pitch-accent in the sentence is incorrect. Meanwhile, in the Chinese languages, the pitch-tone of each word changes the meaning. Thus, "ma" can mean different things based on the pitch. This does mean that Chinese and Japanese speakers are listening for pitch in a way that English speakers are not. So, Chinese and Japanese speakers and singers are likely to be better at hearing for pitch. Not sure if it means that singing is any easier, but, it does mean that their ears are likely to pick-up on pitch quicker than an monolingual English speaker.

“Japanese version”. A lot of people misunderstand. Japanese Kanji is literally Traditional Chinese characters. None of the characters are different. So I don’t think they can be considered as “Japanese version” when both of them are the same as each other… Edit: Which is why Google translate mistook it as Chinese because it is literally chinese characters.
@VzDeath
@VzDeath 3 жыл бұрын
@@PantsuMaster Not all of the kanji are the same as the chinese characters because there was an era of simplification in china after they were brought to Japan. Example 風 and 风. He was just somehow mistaking a song from a series which he "knew" was an anime which comes from japan but still for some reason didn't pick japanese to get the actual translation correct.
@andr_w
@andr_w 3 жыл бұрын
@@VzDeath To add to what you said, when the Japanese started using Chinese characters for written language, not only was there different forms of writing simplification, the meanings behind the characters diverged. A classic example is that the characters which make up the title "Mister" 先生 in Mandarin today mean "teacher" in Japanese. Or that "Teacher" 老师 in Mandarin would be "elderly pastor/master/teacher" in modern Japanese. So, while the character systems may be related, they are not necessarily equal to each other in meaning, use, and even writing.

Yes you're right the actual theme song for the anime has more instruments and it sounds great in that version too. Whether you make a video about or not you should still listen to the original! :) oh yea and if you watch anime then Demon Slayer is def something you should watch as the movie after season 1 just finished but is still available to watch and season 2 is coming in the fall so this is a perfect time to get into it and anyone else that's interested in picking up a new show as Demon Slayer started in 2019. I notice you keep referencing “Mandarin languages” when talking about pitch, but that’s not a thing. There’s only one Mandarin language and Lisa’s singing in Japanese, and the two languages belong to complete different language families. Chinese languages such as Mandarin and Cantonese are Sino-Tibetan. Japanese is generally regarded as part of the Japonic language family, though there’s some debate that it should be considered Altaic instead.

I'd recommend LiSA~Homura on The First Take channel too, that's the ending song to the Demon Slayer movie which is a direct sequel to the first season and btw the anime is fantastic. I'd also like to recommend a check out on the singer of my favorite band ever, which is Japanese too. Name's Band-Maid and the singer is Saiki Atsumi, an underrated voice chameleon that while not being the craziest singer you'll ever hear she's still a powerhouse with a wide range of vocal techniques, such a complete vocalist that adapts to anything her insane band throws against her. Check out the acoustic versions of Anemone or Puzzle, and well if you don't mind, on the rest of the band too. They're awesome 🤘🕊️

If you have any interest in the Japanese language, you could learn to hear the pitch in words like Japanese people do. Though you have to really want to learn it, and it’s a LOT of hard work and takes about a year, before you get close to the end of the basics. It’s really fun for me though. LiSAさんの声がめちゃめちゃ美しいですね!

Even their writing system is so magnificent and beautiful. Even though Im Asian myself (Filipino), I still really want to learn the different writing systems of other asian countries.

That happens a lot in English as well. Take the phrase "I speak english" If I asked what language you speak, they would use the word 'ga' before English to emphasize that it is opposed to other languages. We would emphasize the word 'english'. If I asked if you spoke or wrote english, they would use 'wa' to emphasize the word 'speak', as we would pronounce it differently. Imagine saying "I SPEAK english" if I asked which language you spoke. It would sound like you're a foreigner.

lisa first take homura your welcome....sung with different techniques than she sang Gurenge , which was kinda closed mouth and tense...... and yet so captivating, and Homura is just as amazing yet more emotional......moving without understanding the words sung is a rare gift not all singers are talented enough to have or learn.....
