I believe the hardships she was talking about was the fact that her husband was cheating on her. It didn't break until about six months after this recording, but I believe she had known about it for a while. So you can imagine how much pain and suffering she put into the song.

This is the only song I've heard that made me want to hug the singer while she sang. She put so much emotion and her pause at the end shows just how sad she is. And for reason since her husband cheated on her. "Take me to church" from Hozier made me sad but it only really hit once I learned why it spoke so much to him. "Ashes" from Celine Dion also made me think there was more to the story. But this song is something else.

Great reaction! I would love a long version reaction/analysis to this if you thought you could do it. I think it is so amazing. So much so I am not even sure how to put it into words. Setting aside how technically brilliant she is, part of it is how she comes into singing a song to be in the song. To be the song. Like you said, she isn't afraid to show her emotions when singing, and she rides them right on the edge where she might even lose control of them. There's a video on YT, one of the two live performances of Angel Beats Ending "Ichiban no Takaramono" where she loses that control (the "Angel Beats! Ending.!" one is amazing, but the "Girls Dead Monster" one she loses it at the end), but doesn't lose the song, amazingly. She's on stage pouring out emotions like that. She was not kidding when she said after Homura that she put all her emotions into it, like she would at a show. It's an amazing. Check it out - the first one. I feel guilty watching the second one, but it perfectly illustrates that she is 100% committed to being inside a song when she sings, and therefore risks the emotions taking control. You have to love someone brave enough to sing that way. Such a beautiful soul. She deserves all the hugs in the world. I put her right up there with the best in the world.

Almost right before Lisa did music for Demon Slayer, she was about to retire. The Japanese are all about perfection, and she had one little voice mess-up and was booed by assholes off stage. She was so upset and felt she should retire anyway. Then we're blessed with her lovely voice for the Demon Slayer series. Lisa is amazing and I'm so glad she kept going!

Got a recommendation for a reaction: ReoNa - Niji no Kanata ni (虹の彼方に) THE FIRST TAKE While not as explosive as LiSa in Gurenge, ReoNa has such a sensitive, soft yet powerful voice. She can put so much emotion into her singing it does remind a lot of Homura^^

I had seen another vocal coach reaction to both Gurenge and Homura, but no one talked about how she was letting go out her emotions, and those expressions she did here, maybe because they didn't realize it, and nor did I. But that is an important part of the performance, it makes it even more touching. Great video.
