Doesn’t Friedman make clones of Marshall amps? Weren’t the original Marshalls modified Fender circuits? If I remember correctly aren’t Friedmans black and gold like Marshalls? If it was a different color with a different name really make any difference? The color shouldn’t matter anyway since Friedmans are black and gold. Would Fried Man work better than Freedman? I think we would all understand what pedal it’s imitating. I’ve seen other demos of this thing and it sounds fine. You have found a way to make it sound like a modeler without a cab block.

​@@GearGasms It'd not the same at all. A knockoff Rolex is marketing itself as and branding itself as a Rolex. It still says Rolex on the face and they are selling them as a counterfeit version of genuine product. This does not, it clearly says outright this is a cheap clone not a counterfeit, it has the name DemonFx on the front not Friedman Amplification. If they were selling these trying to fool people into thinking it was a genuine Friedman then I would have a problem but it isn't. Demonfx are saying hey you know that pedal that this company is trying to you sell you for £380 that costs them about £50 to manufacture? How about trying our version that only costs £60 instead and looks and sounds very similar to theirs? For me this is no different to buying a Tokai or ESP LP clone or a Yamaha or East Coast strat clone. The only difference is that apparently it's fine to copy a guitar shape and sound with a couple of aesthetic tweaks but it's unacceptable to do the same for a pedal? Guitar and amp companies have been ripping off each others sounds and designs for decades, the only difference here if that the big brands have took the hump because these cheap clones sound 90% the same for 20% of the price and they don't like it.

Wow this is a cool pedal...the tone controls work pretty good...i own the real one and the tone controls barely have any effect on the signal..paid the full price for the Friedman..this Chinese copy blows the real one away.

It really is a tough position, everyone is emulating everyone in a sense. Some may never be able to afford $400 pedal, its also not possible for the $400 builder to make it for probably 1/2 and still make a profit to employ its employees. Hopefully the identical item gives person G.A.S and inspiration to buy the real thing.

In this case though the pedal is only $199. Still a lot for a dirt pedal though. It could be like a gateway drug for the real thing I suppose. Ironically I’m shooting the real thing against this one this evening. I’m super curious as to how they’ll compare!

@@GearGasms I feel that way, I reviewed those super cheap pedals you see all over Amazon. Under kmise, saphue, the ones I had were no name. I said these may not be long term usable but could be something to let you know if you like that effect.

Pedals like this aren't "taking money from Friedman" as much as they're taking money from Donner, Joyo, and other Chinese low-cost pedals. I'm certain that nearly everyone who's considering a $35 clone is explicitly *NOT* considering the $400 original as the alternative. Nope. They're considering the cheapo Amazon pedal that comes closest to what they want. "Do I pay $30 for a Joyo pedal copied from something, or $50 for a DemonFX pedal copied from something better?" At best, they *might* consider buying a used Friedman (maybe the version with only one channel) if it's cheap enough. But any way you slice it, Friedman itself was *never* going to get any money from these customers. It's similar to the issue of copyright strikes on KZbin reaction channels; the product at issue isn't a *replacement* for the original, it's an augmentation. If anything, the reactions (and in the analogy, the clones) bring more attention to the original product without actually taking away any of its sales. Frankly, I'd rather live in a world with a few more companies like DemonFX getting away with making cheap rip-offs of very expensive products and fewer corporations like Disney suing mom & pop pre-schools because they painted some Disney Princesses(TM) on the wall. Maybe Friedman, Keeley, and others should take a closer look at their pricing structures if these are actually making a dent.

The counterfeit company doesn’t have any R&D costs nor marketing costs that the original maker does so it’s not quite that much of a gouge. Also these pedals are essentially made with slave labor, much like the phone I’m typing on. 😜

I concede your point but neither of the facts that you used to make it. The pedal is $199 and made in the USA. It cost way more than $5 to make. There is a cost to actually design and develop as well that the Chinese don’t bear because they steal.

I’ve had the real Friedman for a few months and it’s an amazing pedal. This is a BLATANT rip off and is ridiculous. Hate to say, but a video like this could help them get more exposure…hopefully not!

Nah it’ll get the same 500 views that they all do lol. The market is pretty aware of it and I think it’s only on Ali express. This particular pedal that is. Most of the rest of DemonFX stuff is available mainstream though. Happy Friday!
