With me today is a Hidden Xperia and we are doing a proper collab this time! I got alot of comments saying I was fanboying about Doom last time but now I've got the halo lore god himself with me to discuss how would a Demon Vs Flood scenario play out? These two unstoppable forces are known for decimating any creature that is happened upon. So with that, lets figure out, who would win?

We know demons are animated and can be reanimated through the use of Argent Energy because we also know from experiments on subjects like the Cyberdemon that it is a necessary component for them to sustain themselves, and we can assume that the fact it is wielded by numerous demons means that it is an innate component of their physiology. So if the demons are being sustained and wielding an energy source as a weapon said to be more efficient at generating power in a mere instant than the most advanced nuclear reactors can do within a year, I'm not sure where you picked up the notion that they would physiologically have to be anywhere close to organisms from an entirely different dimension. Just because something is used as a mechanic doesn't mean it can't also make sense lore-wise. Outcome does not change.

@@theandice8152 Argent Energy has healing properties that when correctly used (even by humans) it can heal your entire body in seconds. This is how "Demons" are created. This is also how many Demons were brought back from the dead by Humans as well, via Argent Energy. Argent Energy is not part of there physiology at all. They're simply weapons that were attached to the bodies themselves, and all Argent Energy is used for is to teleport said demons to various locations along with being used as weapons for the few demons who do have argent energy weapons attached to there bodies. In fact, without Argent Energy, you can trap the Demons bodies and watch them try to escape, which is again, exactly how Olivia Pierce managed to trap and experiment on so many of them. Argent Energy absorbs LARGE amounts of heat and is capable of generating electricity by releasing this heat in massive amounts. When released properly, it can generate massive amounts of energy that quickly rises way above any sort of nuclear reactor in the Doom universe. Think of Argent Energy as a insulator of sorts that absorbs and traps heat inside of it.

Adding this a few months late but hell in the doom universe is a corrupting force you can see this with the possessed. Most of the demons are not native to hell but have been repurposed from other dimensions so the hell overlords would look at the flood and be like “cool gimmick lemme get one universe of this” and then you have hell flood

THANk you, seems like no-one's remembering that demons also operate by assimilation. Though I think it would be the flood to first start exposing itself to argent. The humans had some to open the portal, so I'd say they'd use it as a weapon and they'd start converting eachother slowly until the line was sublurred between the two it was nonexistant. By the tiem it was done, I'd say all demon kind would be united as a magical hypergravemind the size of a planet, and since argent scales to intelligence and bodymass, it would be... well lets just say warhammer gods are quaking.

@Traveller Now that we have doom eternal lore, it puts the maser chief aspect of it into perspective as well. Cause the doom slayer is more powerful than the masterchief, I'd say that's pretty clear, but... doomGUY, before the seraphim, was a base human, and he still tangled with the worst of hell. Safe to assume that the masterchief is both more powerful and more skilled than pre-seraphim doom guy. I'd wager that they'd both be pretty damn unstoppable against the demons. Remember that the chief's guns are a cut above the slayers in their overall damage. A single 8 gauge is arguably as powerful as a double from the supershotgun. 8 gauges share a size with grenade launchers, but it's ALL buckshot, and he can pump that thing at a speed of 2-4 rounds per second, with a 12 shot tube. The halo sniper is a cut above any ranged weapon the doom slayer has. the CE pistol is basically micromissiles in a handgun, a recharging energy shield would be pretty damn tough to overrun, especially when combined with an armor ability and the h5 movement set, and while i again admit that hes almost certainly far more vulnerable to magics, and to direct health damage, I'd argue that in combination with the chief's suit, he's about as strong (as in lifting and punching, not overall ability) as doomguy without any powerups. He can punch through tank armor without hurting himself after all. powerups which chief could also use, as doomguy used them while a base human.

I still think the Flood would win through intellect. They’ve retreated from galaxies before just to lull enemies into a false sense of security. They could just shut down the hell portal and then, using an entire galaxy’s minds and knowledge, could open the portal to knew universes to infect new populations. They could also use forerunner tech to alter their soldier’s DNA to adapt, or commandeer thousands of forerunner ships with corrupted AIs controlling millions of forerunner Prometheans and even Guardians that would find the temperatures in hell far easier to deal with. They could also use nukes, use covenant ships to glass their buildings and floating islands to dust or even move a Halo into Hell and activate it using perhaps a human kidnapped from another universe or one that somehow avoided infection in their universe. They could then study the bodies of the dead demons to find out how to infect them safely. We didn’t account for how many strategies and resources the flood truly have. Maybe they could even learn how to manipulate Argent energy to use it against them using neural physics. All they’d have to do is infect one weak demon like an imp and they’d have it figured out.

I think you sort of forgetting one thing, the Flood wouldn't even be able to contain or form a defensive line, as Argent energy on human bodies has been recorded or shown in data files to instantly kill humans or change them into ghouls or soldiers for hell. Ontop of that Summoners that serve in hells army would have no issue teleporting onto those flood ships or behind flood lines where they can summon countless numbers of imps to destroy the enemy from the inside and out. Ontop of that Summoners teleport around throwing out waves of destructive argent energy that home in on their targets they aim for. So this fight is far more one-sided with how fast demons can be deployed.

I loved this video. It's fascinating how both really use the technology and knowledge of their foes just in different ways; the demons corrupt the minds and purpose of their enemies causing them to aid Hell's cause without even knowing it at first, while the Flood just take over everything and use what's there, adding it to the hive mind and biomass. The demons do have another advantage, though, that's only clear if you look at the implications of the lore: demons can use living and dead bodies and convert them into more demons. The obvious example would be Olivia Pierce turning into a Spider Mastermind, but that could be written off as possession more than conversion. The true example is the demons taking the dead son of the Wretch and turning it into the very much alive Icon of Sin. Whether or not the demons can do this on a mass level is very dubious, but if they can turn even just a single corpse into a Titan-sized demon more than once in the course of the entire war, then the Flood would be in trouble. Well, more screwed than they were already. I'd also be very interested to know what you and @HiddenXperia think of a match between the Flood and the X-parasites from the Metroid universe, given its similarity to the flood in a lot of ways. Metroids would also be interesting, but they're very different creatures. Then again, the Metroid universe has a pretty insane power level to it due to the technology and environmental stressors (notably extreme gravity) have on its denizens. Sorry for the long-ass comment, but I really liked the video and found it thought-provoking.

He has the fortitude to take a fucking nuke 1.5x the size of the strongest nuke in service in the USA point blank without any consequence (the praetor suit was also unharmed and this is referring to the VEGA core explosion, which I calculated out to be 1.8MT of tnt) E. He doesn't just get stronger by killing demons - however he does only heal through argent energy - in the codex it just states "his enemies" so if the flood throws too many shitty forms at him first, they'll be effectively fighting a god. F. He also has the fortitude to be crushed by a fucking building and survive, albeit knocked out for a few minutes, but very alive. (A few minutes because any more is nigh impossible from a biological perspective)

Janik Hüppeler id argue that individually, there is a SMALL degree left of the individual when infected with the flood. That said, the possession would still be fought through the Gravemind, which would be overwhelmingly difficult

@@blackmamba54321 Oh yeah, if the individual forms had the gravemind as "willpower" then there would be no way. But if the form would be cut off from the gravemind somehow it definitely could be possessed. Then again, it could be argued that the gravemind could be caught of guard since i doubt it would know how to defend against it. But that would depend if the human interpretation of hell counts in this scenario.

Janik Hüppeler yeah that’s the problem is that there’s not enough information in halo lore (or lack of detail) to gauge how big the flood horde has to be for a gravemind to form and how big of a “radius” it’s neural networking is regarding individual hosts. But i do think that it is possible to isolate a host and take it over theoretically. However, to me if that WERE to happen, it’s essentially turning into a battle of parasite vs parasite. An isolated flood host is still a flood, just not connected to its “main hub”, so I can’t begin to think how that would turn out.

Both armies are fiction but in my opinion doom’s demons are a supernatural beings, unlike the flood.. which are portraited more like a.. ‘real creature’ then their opponent.. although doom 2016 did put a lot of biology onto these demons so that they could feel more like a real creatures, the whole ‘culture’ of demons, the land scape of their homeworld, the story of doomslayer and demons.. just makes them feel more.. mythical. And real creatures don’t stand a chance against super-natural beings. But then again, flood has no reason to attack hell itself since The flood is there to test precursor’s creation (i guess you can say, their own creation) and carry out their ‘Mantle of Responsibility’, conquering other world.. a whole another dimension, won’t interest floods at all i think.. and even tho they can’t win the invasion on the demons, when it comes to defending the invasion of the demons, the flood will most likely be successful in turning the portal off and stoping the demon invasion. Just like roanok said.

Hidden X Peria even states this "without no internal temperatures" (which the Demons don't have any high temperatures at all, the bodies disappearing is just a gameplay mechanic to not bog down the Consoles performance) the Flood would 100% win.

@@Nighterlev Demons can bathe in lava and produce fireballs that melt steel from their own internal body. Even if they aren't naturally high temp, they can simply just flood themselves with that energy and be fine while the flood dies.

When a species like the flood can infect anything meet something like the tyranid who can keep evolving infinitely, and I mean INFINITELY, like they even evolved and became immune to an infection that was created by *magic* then it's a draw.

So for now it seems Doom universe is one of strongest in all game universes. As Doom guy is just insane in how strong he is, now demons being stronger then infection based species, that are considered op. As considering the demon specs, it looks like necromorphs would also have hard time with them. As of 40K universe, they already have demons of their own kind :D

To be honest, necromorphs would probably have no issue with demons. Not in brute force; they'd lose in that front, but they'd be able to mentality corrupt them. Markers would eventually drive them insane, making them mutate and/or turn on each other.

Even those with strong wills end up corrupted by the Markers, it just takes them a little bit longer. A corrupted soul makes the body an empty vessel, making them even easier to corrupt.

Well i do have one thought on this video. If humanity was entirely infected, that would also mean doomguy right? If thats the case, would the flood know EXACTLY how to fight demons? Would they learn about heaven, argent energy and how to use it? Could they learn about the BFG? Well, Chief is pretty easy honestly. He's just super soldier. Considering the power level that demons and maykers regularly display, and the fact that the Slayer himself is a literal demigod, Chief is just an above-average warrior in Doom's universe.

Yes I’m aware but it doesn’t sound right in this case, “deci” in the word “decimate” comes from Greek “deca” and later turned into the Latin “decimus” so the definition is literally in the word. Modern vernacular has a tendency to repurpose words to fit in with modern times, which isn’t a bad thing but can be construed as a misuse of the word. Others may argue that the modern use of the word is a natural evolution of the word in the English language. I personally find it a little silly however to use the modern definition in this particular context. But I see and respect your point either way.

(technically argent energy is a mix of hell energy and another kind of energy but it's easier to just think of the hell energy as argent energy.)
