The Flood are considered by most to be an unstoppable abberation destined to wipe the galaxy clean of all life apart from the flood, and then the eventual universe. But in the face of absolute annihilation, Humanity devises a plan to use a Virus from Left 4 Dead to attack the parasite. Who will come out victorious between these two? certainly not Humanity. Lets examine how this might go down if it ever came to pass!

The reason the demons defeat the flood is because they can’t be infected, it shows how power level alone doesn’t determine who wins. The weaknesses, strengths and structure of the civilization plays a huge part in determining who would come out victorious The forerunners could defeat the demons but couldn’t defeat the flood while the flood could defeat the forerunners but not the demons But in truth if demons could be infected it would probably be another flood stomp. And the forerunners lost because mendicant bias got the logic plague from the primordial, if that hadn’t happened I would say the forerunners would have had a good chance of stopping the flood outbreak

Great example of this is Superman who curbstomp most ppl in his universe outside of gods and hax. Metallo can give Superman a struggle due to using Kryptonite and possibly beat off guard as it happened in most cases. WonderWomen wrecks Metallo easy but Superman can beat Wonderwoman. Sometimes its other factors that matter. Weaknesses , Intelligence, Feats, Skill, Durability, Strength speed etc. Sometimes even a skill that is weak can be the only OP skill strong enough to whoop something that most can't win against. Demons of Doom is a bad Match up against The Flood because of the heat they create and because they can't be infected on death. So since they can't be infected at all they win its something the flood would have to avoid. Sometimes thats how things are and Doom Demons are Anti Flood by accident but not anti everything though.

@bradley vikelstein pretty easily, even a low-tier warrior servant with a class-11 combat skin could probably take down hordes of Barrons of Hell and forerunner Fortress-Class warships were the size of moons, up to 3000 kilometers in length, the weapons the forerunners used could easily tear through demons like wet toilet paper. And the forerunners didn’t lose the forerunner-flood war because they were weaker than the flood (technically they didn’t lose at all, they won actually but the survivors exiled themselves and didn’t catalog their species in the ark for reseeding, but given that forerunners don’t die of old age because of their technology there are still live forerunners in the galaxy other than the Ur-Didact) but anyway there were 3 main reasons why they “lost” 1- The contender-class AI known as mendicant bias was tasked with interrogating the primordial after his discovery on zeta Halo (he was believed to be the last living precursor but he was actually a weird precursor-gravemind hybrid) after an interrogation that lasted around 40 years mendicant bias was infected by the logic plague and defected to the flood, mendicant bias was in control of most of the forerunner fleet. 2-the Ur-Didact (who was the leader of the forerunner military) and Faber (who was an important figure in the forerunner empire) were both driven insane by the gravemind about halfway through the forerunner-flood war, leading to poor military decisions. Eventually the Ur-Didact was deemed in no condition to lead the forerunner military and the Iso-Didact was put in charge instead. 3-During the initial flood outbreaks the forerunners underestimated the flood, allowing to grow As for the reason why they won: during the final weeks of the forerunner-flood war any non-infected forerunner was moved to the lesser ark which was a safe zone from the rings and offensive bias was created to destroy mendicant, he was non-sentient unlike mendicant bias which made him immune to the logic plague. He was tasked to hold out with what remained of the forerunner fleet to buy them time to activate the Halo array, even though offensive bias’s fleet was 1000 times smaller than mendicant’s fleet he still managed to hold out for long enough so that the Halos could be fired, any life in the galaxy (including the flood) that wasn’t on the ark was destroyed. With all the flood controlling the ships being killed mendicant lost control of his fleet and offensive bias then highjacked it. mendicant was captured and put on trial, he was modified to only be allowed to feel penance and was buried under a vast desert in the ark. The surviving forerunners; greatly ashamed for underestimating the flood in its initial stages and letting this happen refused to catalog their species in the ark for reseeding and exiled themselves; most of them left the galaxy but some stayed to reminisce about what had happened, most of them now live peaceful lives on isolated planets.

One prime detail you left out, concerns the combat forms of The Flood. If an infection form had to revive a corpse, the corpse needs to be fresh; if the brain has rotted away, along with the rest of the nervous system, then the flesh left behind is no better used for bio-mass accumulation.

The only argument I can put forward is that the Green Flu is stated to mutate daily, which from what I've been aware of, is much faster than the Floods adaptation, assuming they don't consume something with new DNA which can make them evolve much faster, although they'd need said new DNA to do so, although if the Left 4 Dead survivors are able to keep up do to their genes or whatever, and the Flood consumes some of them, then I can imagine they'd end up being immune as well.

I think in a battle, excluding Infection, meaning neither the Flood or Green Flu can infect each other's hosts, they can only slug it out, all depends on the first scenario for the Green Flu to win. The Flood arrival would include more Infection Forms and Carriers than actual Combat forms, while the Green Flu has a force ready to fight by infecting most of the planet. The Flood could gain more fighters through infecting survivors but so can the Green Flu. In just a slug fest, in scenario one, no infection of each other included. I think Green Flu would win. Tanks and Chargers have the strength to mop the floor with the flood forms they would have available, maybe if the Flood brought Tanks and maybe Juggernauts with their landing, they'd fight more evenly. Spitters are also a great counter to the Flood. Smokers I don't think would be as effective as they are against Humans. Boomers wouldn't be great combatants but would be able to spill bile and attract more and more Green Flu infected to the fight, overwhelming the Flood that landed. Hunters and Jockeys would be moderate fighters and Witches would rip apart anything that startles them, but they could get overwhelmed which is a strategy survivors employ against Witches sometimes. However, extensive fighting if the Flood receive reinforcements, the Flood win. Just a skirmish between a Flood Landing Force and the Green Flu already infected most of the Earth's population, without the infections being involved and it just being a slugfest, the Green Flu would potentially win.

I'd argue the fact that the greenflu tends to mutates often, I think the battle would be lengthy and the winner would be on whether who creates a genetic countermeasure against the other first. The green flu is severe enough to mutate itself into a weapon within weeks, it's not farfetched to say that if the greenflu manages to mutate enough (which it will) to be able to take over flood cells, the flood will obviously be pushed back until it develops the same "carrier" genetics that the L4D2 survivor has which it might eventually get as well, then the green flu might be in trouble instead.

Haven't finished, will edit once I do, but just one thing: what kind of doomsday prep nut builds his bunker and doesn't have multiple levels of filtration for the air system? I mean, plague, radiation, fungal spores - all are extremely dangerous to a pristine safe zone, and that would be accounted for. I'm not saying the people in bunkers wouldn't be infected, just that spores coming in via the air vents in natural osmosis seems unlikely; I think it would take a flood form breaching the bunker, even if it's just a tiny crack in a filtration system or the like.

When Blizz created the Zerg, the Tyranids were nothing what they're like today; if anything, a lot of what the Tyranids are today (especially physical look) came from what Blizzard did with the Zerg. As for the Tyranid vs zerg itself.. the zerg would be a very fair match for the tyranid on all scales, be it planetary or galactic. The zerg produce just as quickly, if not faster and the Zerg are created to attempt to meet genetic perfection.. so you don't have throw-away creatures, each creature has it's attack and it's defense and purpose; with some zerg bioforms easily matching the biotitans (like the Ultramind version ultralisk, the brutalisk), and the flying zerg are just as capable, from the scourge to larger forms like the vipers and overlords.

+@@RoanokeGaming Yeah, thought to suggest it because it's a virus the Flood can't adapt to/ incorporate/evolve against since not even the smartest minds in Marvel couldn't find a cure for it before they eventually became infected themselves. It can also infect beings who shouldn't be able to be infected like the Juggernaut who's been reduced to a skeleton and was still moving, the Sentry who's mostly just a energy guy who's got the power of a million suns (or a million exploding suns), the Hulk who has numerous showings of his regeneration/healing factor keeping him from dying to stuff like a toxin in the Worldbreaker Hulk series that was turning his body into bloody welts like imgur.com/a/yNunYaC and more, Thor who's a literal magical Thunder God, Thanos and much more beings who fell victim to the Hunger Virus and would be fine against Flood/immune to the Flood. The only weakness I could say the HV has is that it's means of spreading are by hosts/beings alone unlike Flood who can convert lifeforms and spread the Logic Plague to intelligent AI, though I wouldn't call it that much of a weakness since zombies still have their powers, intelligence like Hank Pym and so on who can create tech/make stuff to get to more flesh Personally I'd say the Hunger Virus takes it if supers are involved like the Hulk, Thor or the Sentry who'd mow down Flood and whatever ships they're using. Though if it's just regular human/animal zombies against the Flood they could win by blasting them to bits with weapons or Forerunner weapons, problem would be direct combat like Flood combat forms engaging with zombies that can very well spread the Hunger Virus to the Combat Forms via a bite, scratch or if the Flood tries to consume zombie biomass or infect a zombie. Flood forms are stronger then regular, non super powered zombies but a single scratch or bite is going to turn Flood forms against each other

Wouldn't the fact that the flood can infect us on a cellular level imply certain similarities between our cells and theirs? And as a followup question wouldn't that make the odds of them being susceptible to Earth based viruses higher? Edit: I don't think it would dramatically change the outcome, I'm just confused on that point.

it can take over our cells, it doesnt have to become them, sort of like how your DNA is different from a cows but you can still eat them

Since FSCs are actually Precursor remains, I don't think they'll be easily infected by viruses. Plus, in the lore, ancient humans and San'Shyumme powdered their pets with Precursor dust (though they didn't know what it actually was at the time.) Some individuals ate the animals that were hit with the powder, thus creating an opportunity for the Precursors to start infecting them as well. Could be possible that the same viruses that were around then, are still around now, and the FSCs have already developed a sort of immunity to it.
