The Greenman family have volunteered to run the steam engines at the museum sawmill since 1986. Robert “Bob” Greenman and his sons Nathaniel, Kenton, and Russel control and care-for the modern oil-fired boiler which supplies the steam to run the mill. They also calibrate, operate, and maintain the historic Frick and Erie steam engines and the system of belt pullies and line drives that power the head saw and other equipment above. Many of the Greenman’s work as professional engineers and enjoy tinkering with the historic equipment. In PA, most sawmills had transitioned from water to steam power by the 1860s, greatly increasing their productivity.
