Did not fully appreciate until I googled his finished work. Very nice. He understands the forms he creates. Nice process of discovery.

A lot of the comments here seem to be using a "craft pottery" yardstick for art pottery. He's a noted fine art potter, not a functional ware potter. Much of the point is to play with the visual tension and drama of something being off-kilter and "caught in movement." That's not a failure, any more than Jasper Johns "failed" to paint a "perfect" American flag, or Meret Oppenheim "failed" to make a usable cup and saucer and spoon. I'm not saying Michikawa is in quite the same league-but at least use an appropriate yardstick to judge. At the same time, these techniques are useful to and usable by craft potters. It's very kind of him and of the Art College to share them with all of us.

People don't understand how talented this legend is! He literally mastered the art of pottery to the limit where he started a whole new genre of it! When i first saw his end products i couldn't believe that it was made on a pottery wheel, kinda was in denial, and then i watched his videos and was stunned! A true pioneer.

You should get back into it. I hadn't done pottery since high school and after 48 years I went to a studio and took two classes to relearn it. I have been back for a year and have made a lot of things. I made mugs for everyone for Christmas last uear. So 65 mugs in three months going to a studio almost every day. It sure is therapeutic.

Unbelievable skill. He understands the clay almost down to the molecules knowing how it will respond to every one of his touches and tools. That is being a MASTER of your craft.

Wow, he makes everything look so easy, but it takes many many years to get to his skill level. Some never get there. Each item he made gets your mind thinking of ways to use that technique.

He's a remarkable influence in technique, and vindicates others of his philosophical persuasion, who practice in less adventurous group settings. I've shown this to some fellow club-potters and they now 'get' my errant, mirthful approach.
