Kudos to the spectacular portrayl of the numerous conflicting themes and interactions that wars bring to the surface, conflics of patriotism and duty to country, comrades and self-preservation. It makes one wonder why so many of we, sapiens, are so anxious to start and engage in wars when it is so obvious that there are no real winners; every participant on both sides of the fence is a loser, as is every country and every family, personally involved and not involved. Here's hoping that we will soon see an end to all wars---we need more common sense and more social interactions and less anger, fear, envy and that insatiable thirst for control and power over others.

This is certainly a movie worth-watching. There are several conflicts of interests among the characters, with each faced against the other, the director's labours are worth noticing. Each character has lived up to its nature. There are multiple ironies in the screenplay. The white ice depicted throughout has strong symbolic connotation, representing death. In the proximity of death, a few characters exhibit deeds of humanitarian compassion. In fine, it is human love and empathy that stays at the top as a predominating sentiment and the core theme of this moving drama. Hearty appreciation to the Russian actors and the film -crew......Srivilliputtur S Ramesh, SRIVILLIPUTTUR, TAMIL NADU, SOUTH INDIA.

If there is little snow and severe frost, then the ground will freeze. Besides, didn't you see that he was actually digging this ground? There was also a way to make a fire first, and then dig. There can be many ways and conditions. This does not mean that today it is autumn and it is possible to dig, and tomorrow it is winter and it is impossible to dig.

Yes, very good movie. But it portrays Russians as noble men. From our (polish) point of view: 1938 Polish operation - more then 110000 Poles living in Soviet Union were murdered. Others were sent to lagier camps with high sentences. The children were transported to Soviet child care homes - they were lessen version of labor camps. 17.09.1939 Soviet Union crosses polish borders and participates with Germany in Poland's division. By July 22nd 1 500 000 polish citizens were sent to gulags and a lot of them were already dead. This is just a little history about how Soviets were acted against Poles.
@sinisasimic7010 ай бұрын
Dostoyevski described you very well in his novels (poles) where there always was a pole looking at russians down his noble nose. now, after watching this movie and reading positive comments about russians, you act as a pole from dostoyevski's novels, putting down russians as lower breed of human. i see you talk about stalin dividing poland with hitler....i just want to remind you that poles rushed to take a chunk of checkoslovakia right after hitler took sudetenland which was before hitler invaded poland in sept of 1941. I was triggered by your hatred clearly stated in "portrays russians as noble man" whereas "we all know they are beasts" and then you prove it by giving some history lessons on suffering of noble poles under beastly russians. People like you, haters, are not able to see simple things....like the fact that those characters in this movie are human beings, and no, they are not noble, they are just behaving like almost every human being would have, regardless of their ethnic background, in given circumstances where death is all around, treason, fear, chaos, suffering...

The atmosphere in both the Russian and German armies had to be horrible to endure. If German lost any gear during a retreat he was punished for it. They were expected to stay with a truck until someone brought them gas or die defending it when the soviet advance got to it.
@amare_naturam9 ай бұрын
The German penal battalions were worse than the Russians. The Germans did not have the concept of “paying for a mistake with blood” - only your command could decide whether you corrected yourself or not.
