A quick comment here. I believe it should read “passed” in this title. “Past” is defined a period of time that has already existed. If you’ve “passed” something, you’re moving away from a particular geographical or ideological point. OR you can say you’re pushing passed past stereotypes!

I do like in the Gilded Age there is a black female character who isn't just the maid. In many ways, she more educated, more refined, and more intelligent than many of the white female characters but not without her flaws. It's also interesting how others react to her. Those who see beyond her skin colour and those who don't. As far as her performance, stealing scenes from Christine Baranski and Cynthia Nixon means you're doing something right.
