Dendrite Fractals | Each Is Better Than The Last! | Acrylic paint, ink, and isopropyl alcohol

Hi! Welcome to my art channel!
In this video I play with the effects that isopropyl alcohol (91%) has on ink over acrylic paint. Using straight acrylic paint, 2 parts paint & 1 part floetrol, and 4 parts paint & 1 part floetrol. I love the dendrites that form!

Thank you! I would think you could use them as skins, if you carefully scrape the paint off the tile with a razor blade! I would think ceramic or glass would be the best surfaces to try that with. Thanks for watching!

What other substrate can be used instead of ceramic tiles?

I have only tested it on tiles, but I would think that pretty much anything smooth and flat would work. If it is something porous, I'd recommend sealing it first. Thanks for watching!

Can you do the same on a dry canvas with a base coat down?

I have not tried this on a canvas, and since I do not do acrylic pours or work with canvas much, I’m not too familiar with how it would work. Definitely try it and let us all know what you think!

If you want crazy fractals without the need for alcohol, just mix your base with water. No floetrol needed.

I know this KZbin video was a few years back, lol. But, I was wondering if you could help me with a question…..? I am having trouble with my dendrites kind of dissipating/slowly fading away after a few minutes. What could I be doing wrong?

🤔 I’m not sure! I haven’t tried it agin since this video - I just don’t do much with paint really. Some thoughts I have would be… maybe too much alcohol to ink? Maybe the paint is too thick/thin? What kind of inks are you using?

Hola. No se si llegaré a tiempo, pero el secreto es que la base lleva bastante agua y no lleva suficiente carbonato cálcico, lo que aquí llamamos blanco de España. Si no tienes los polvos a mano, puedes ponerle algo de gesso a la mezcla para espesarlo un poco. Creo que eso lo arreglará.

The mix is wrong in this video. Try 4 parts Floetrol to either 1part paint or 1.5 (depending on the paint your are using). You need it very thin so the dendrites can spread. Then mix the ink and alcohol TOGETHER (1 part ink to 2 parts alcohol). Drip the ink/alcohol mixture one drop at a time onto the thin Floetrol/paint mix and see what happens! I think you'll notice a big difference and they should hold much better as well. Like shown in this video, you can "feed" the fractals to make them bigger or eave them smal.. You can also experiment with different combo's of colors to add and you should see much more defined and cool looking results!
