Thanks for sharing this video! I've been reading about what to do with these after their flowers have dropped and I wasn't sure if I should be cutting off the flowering stems or the main stems after they flowered, so this was enlightening. Thanks!

I wish you good luck with your nobile. I beleive the hybrids nobile need a temperature drop with little water restriton before blooming, those conditions are needed to trigger blooms. But I would not put in the cold those new growths, they cannot devellop well in the cold and I also would not have repotted before new roots start. But that is just my way. Good luck.

As I said in a previous comment I didn't explain things very well. The new growth will not be starved of water or warmth and will not be kept in cold conditions until the end of February.. I am always of the opinion that repotting should be done after flowering. Ed.

Good points. I also thought that if new growths were growing you still water but stop when there is nothing growing...otherwise the New growths will stunt or stop growing and deplete energy from the larger canes...

Love your videos Ed, very informative and at a nice steady pace 👍🏼 hope you don't mind me asking, I just wanted to know why do you trim those small flower stems? As it's winter and my flowers are wilting and dropping. Thanks
@EdsOrchids
@EdsOrchids 10 ай бұрын
Good morning Lee and thank you for your comment. There is no significent reason why the dead flower stems are removed it's just that it makes the plant look more presentable. Hope that your collectionis coping well with the winter conditions. I've had to bring my collection indoors, due to the energy bills, and I know it will not do them any good being moved into a different environement.......or being moveed back into the greenhouse when the weather warms up, Thank you for your kind words about my channel and once again thank you for taking a look at my channel......take care, Ed. Hi Ed.. Great video.. Thank you 😊. I would just like to say though that I've watered my den nobile all year round and it didn't really get a cold spell, just a temperature drop and mine has budded down the whole length of the 2 new canes. I'm just waiting for the buds to open now which shouldn't be much longer 😊. I'm not an expert by any means lol but just wanted you to know that I didn't stop watering and mine has rebloomed first time for me 😊. I hope you have the same with yours 😊.

Many thanks Maxine and congrats on your successes. It's like a lot of things .....some do it this way some do it that and they both get the same results so there is no exact science in growing orchids. Will you be showing us a pic of your plant when in flower? Ed

@@EdsOrchidsThank you 😊. There most definitely is no exact science with orchids and I'm learning that very quickly lol. I could be just very lucky and next year it will decide not to bloom... My hybrid nobile types have reflowered for me, like Maxine, without a deliberate reduction in watering, only reducing the frequency to make sure they dried out first. They saw high temperatures in the summer and are only seeing minima of around 15-16C overnight.

Thanks for showing this video! I grow many Nobiles. They put on such a show when they flower. Mine are, for the most part, mounted on palm trees. We are currently having a cold spell so I'm hoping for a nice flower display. Never knew there was such a thing as seedling bark. Is that an Orchiata bark?
@EdsOrchids
@EdsOrchids 4 жыл бұрын
Good evening Pat. My conditions for growing are a totally different from yours so I have to adapt my conditions to try and suit the plants. How cold is your cold spell? Seedling bark is the smallest of the Orchiata series and measures on 2 or 3 mm. Ed.

Hi Ed . Welcome back. Nice videoclip on Nobeli hy brid tutorial. Normally we flush with plain water . But you taught us to flush with Magnesium @ 180ppm. Such high quality ingredients how it helps our potting media ? Why 180 ppm ? Is it magnesium 180 or RO water starting ppm included to 180 ? Then for me it’s 190ppm after mixing ?

I agree with Martin, Ed. The wild plants get a severely reduced rainfall but they don't see a drought in the cold season. I water mine when the compost has completely dried out, which is every 2-3 weeks with mine depending on the pot size. Where they are in active growth I fertilise, too. Keith

@@Rockdoc2174 I know I didn't explain things very well Keith but I do realise that I need to protect the new growths from deterioration by water and warmth. The plant will not be subjected to a cold spell until late February. My apologise for the confusion. Ed.
