My father loved Denise Williams so much. He played this song and other songs by her . He passed on Valentine’s Day 2020. I was in office max last week to get a blow up picture of him for the funeral. As I sit waiting in there .. the worker played Denise Williams song “Free” and then another song by her right afterwards. I knew that was my Dad communicating to me that he is ok. I almost broke down in the store. What are the odds that out of all the songs the employee could have played off his phone, it would be her. We miss u dad. You were only 62 yrs old smh 🤎

Unfortunately talented black artists usually are ignored or not acknowledged as they should be while talented or untalented white artists are rewarded. Off topic but please vote for Whitney daily to be inducted into Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She is #6 and only the top 5 are voted in. Hi from Providence, RI, relationships take humility, trust, the ability to communicate feelings NOT thoughts, unconditional forgiveness and a complete lack of keeping score via a resentment list, true love is difficult because there are two types in the world: givers and takers, anything outside of two givers, it's destined to fail, today, so many people have mental health issues they never address and carry their baggage into relationships, somewhere along the line, the team, two friends, simply implode and it's sad but it's indicative of larger issues, remember: you are not here to make anyone happy, nor are people here to make you happy...that's not reality

I saw her live in Japan at the NCO Club (the lineup was Adina Howard, Deniece Williams, and Silk) in Misawa, Japan back in 2001 while I was in the military. She sung this song, which is one of my all time favorite songs ever, and during the song she took a glimpse at me with a smile, and I died. I'll never forget that day for as long as I live.

So she's saying let's not waste ecstasy cause I'm only hear for a while. But she truly loves him she just needs her freedom. Its not just she has to but she wants to be free. It's a really cold song when you take in the lyrics.

One of my favorite songs as a kid. They always used to play it on 98.7 KISS FM at night. Me and my brother would listen as we'd go to sleep. Man, I miss those days!

There are some indie R&B artists that try to recreate the sound, but the vocals aren't there. One who gets close is Raveena.

Her voice is everything. She was one of the ones who could hang w/ Minnie Riperton. Back then, there were no excuses about climate changes, government sabotage, etcetera like these other singers have. This is always gon be my jam. Nothing like some 70's soul.

Whenever I listen to this song, the strength of her voice carries me away to the place where I am Free. I grew up listening to this kind if music where the talent was focussed on locals & not singing. If you understand what I mean, then you accept & acknowledge that the multi award-winning "singers" of today couldn't hold a candle to the vocalists of the 60s 70s & 80s. Deneice's voice was as distinct & unmistakable as Minnie's, Stephanie's & all the ladies if the 80s 💋💋❤
