Lyrics:
I can't fool myself, I don't want nobody else to ever love me
You are my shinin' star, my guiding light, my love fantasy
There's not a minute, hour, day or night that I don't love you
You're at the top of my list 'cause I'm always thinkin' of you
I still remember in the days when I was scared to touch you
How I spent my day dreamin' plannin' how to say I love you
You must have known that I had feelings deep enough to swim in
That's when you opened up your heart and you told me to come in
Oh, my love
A thousand kisses from you is never too much
I just don't wanna stop
Oh, my love
A million days in your arms is never too much
I just don't wanna stop
Too much, never too much, never too much, never too much
Woke up today, looked at your picture just to get me started
I called you up, but you weren't there and I was broken hearted
Hung up the phone, can't be too late, the boss is so demandin'
Opened the door up and to my surprise, there you were standin'
Well, who needs to go to work to hustle for another dollar
I'd rather be with you 'cause you make my heart scream and holler
Love is a gamble and I'm so glad that I'm winnin'
We've come a long way and yet this is only the beginnin'
Oh, my love
A thousand kisses from you is never too much
(Never too much, never too much, never too much)
I just don't wanna stop
Oh, my love
A million days in your arms is never too much
(Never too much, never too much, never too much)
And I just don't wanna stop
Oh, my love
A thousand kisses from you is never
(Never too much, never too much, never too much)
I just don't wanna stop
Oh, my love
A million days in your arms is never too much

People don't realize that Luther had been toiling in the entertainment industry for 12 years and was 30 years old when this song was released. Sometimes success can be immediate, other times it's living in obscurity for years before you get that break. You can have the greatest voice in the world and may never get that chance. Never Too Much was 12 years in the making from his time performing on the first season of Sesame Street, to the misses with his group Luther, to writing commercial jingles and performing with groups you've never heard, like Mascara, to his first taste of success with the group Change. This is Luther's time to shine, and once he got the opportunity, the rest, is history.

@donna515 yes, he was a backup singer for a bunch of prominent artists in the 70s. I truly believe that Luther's work with him was part of the reason Bowie called MTV out about them not playing Black artists' music outside of the early morning hours during the channel's early years.

I swear it is so unbelievable that so many of our brightest stars in the sky were taken away much too early. How could we lose Luther, Whitney, Michael, Prince, Barry, etc. They gave us so much, but we know they had so much more to give. I absolutely love his facial expressions in this. He didn't just lip sync and "phone it in." He put real effort in it. My favorite part is when he talks about seeing his love standing at the door, and he gives that sweet, happy smile and drops down a little. My heart melts when I see that! That voice, that personality...there will never be another like Luther.

Back on 2001 when I was living in NYC. There WAS A MUSICIAN playing a guitar getting off thr 6th train on UES. my buddy and I leaving the subway, stopped and I knew only the first verse. And he let me join in and sing. HE was on point and I had my moment (as as a chubby Italian suit) at 34 years old.. to sing with him. One of the best 2 -3 minutes of my life. We stopped folks exiting the train as they were like..WTF?!!! I will never forget that tiny moment in time in my life. That man ALWAYS had a smile on his face when he performed. I loved Luther. His singing, his strong work ethic. I just finished watching his story. He gave so much. Sad part, he never found real love for himself. 😢 I pray his journey into his Dad's arms. Fills his heart. He was one of a kind person. No will take is place. RIP Luther ❤

In the early/late nineties, King Vandross was ALL over media--in those days, it was mainly tv/radio. We loved/respected him. (Profoundly still do, btw.) In the latest CNN special special, his personal life was commented on---despite his wish for privacy. Not ANYONE'S business. Never was. I have a close relative (loud and proud), but this dear man, was not about that. Can we NOT find a a space for privacy without deeming it pathological? At day's end, our private life, as long as legal (or moral/ethical, depending on the era) is our OWN business.

I saw Luther TWICE ( the only artist I ever saw twice ). He was thin for one & heavier for another. He was beautiful in his element regardless of size. His ability to convey his emotions thru his music makes Luther timeless and I am GRATEFUL. Thank you Luther 🙏

It's so cool that he was David Bowie's back-up singer on his Young Americans album and then he went on to become one of the greatest Soul Singers of all time.

Tabby Katt True...Many people don't know that fact. He sang backup for Bowie...R&R ... but is known for his R&B work. A legend... had women throw panties on the stage...

Patti Labelle vouched for him early in his career. Miss Patti told the story of how they met on Andy Cohen's show. Apparently Luther was an accountant or something like that at the time but he was a massive Patti fan so he brought a rack of women's gowns and snuck into the theater where Patti was performing, claiming he was a stylist and then he wormed his way to Patti's room and they became instant best friends.
