Denim Trends for 2025 (Vogue, Who What Wear, Refinery29 & More)

I'm 54, 5'2", and I've been wearing barrel jeans for the past year and I absolutely love them. They're figure-flattering and elevate every outfit. I get compliments every time I wear them. The trick is to size up so they sit down on your hips, and wear them a little longer. When you do that, they don't have such a crazy barrel shape, they just look like fun baggy jeans. My favorites are Nili Lotan Shon jeans and Free People We the Free Good Luck Barrel jeans.

No barrel leg jeans for me, but I still have some great GAP boyfriend jeans from the early 2000s that shouldn't look good on me but do! They're a little baggy, tapered and cuffed at the bottom, they're even low-rise (because if you wear your boyfriend's jeans of course they're too big and they fall off you, so they become low-rise). They just suit my body. I wore them so much in the past, they have moulded to my body, jeans look so good when worn in naturally as opposed to machine-distressed ones. Maybe that's the secret. We tend to buy so many clothes these days that they don't get to become worn-in anymore. I used to have a capsule wardrobe (because I had so little money), now I have a whole dressing room full of clothes I love. I wear them all and I always feel like I'm wearing something new because there are literally not enough days/events to go to in a season to wear a piece more than a couple of times or a few times. I've bought great pieces over the years that reflect my personality so I'm definitely not planning on doing any major decluttering like some youtubers pressurise us to do. I'm lucky that being 58, I've had time to build up my collection gradually and organically..I love my wardrobe but I have enough now, I'm not planning to buy much, if anything at all, in 2025, unless a piece is really amazing, also because I'm not overly impressed with the new trends or I've already got them from vintage buys.

I've never dressed sloppy in track pants, leggings, etc. I don't understand why people feel they have to wear them at home, when they travel, etc. (people used to dress up to travel and I like that!) Jeans are very comfortable if you are slim and/or wear the right size for you. Wearing elasticated/stretchy clothes can lead to overeating and before you know you can't button up your jeans, tailored pants, etc. I'm 58 years young and look up to my Italian grandmas, in the 70s you always wore fitted clothes, even when cleaning, cooking, looking after children, working from home, etc. I recently put on weight and I blame it on "forgiving" and "tummy-hiding" wide leg jeans. I have to be careful because I spend a lot of time at home and it's tempting to overeat if I wear clothes that expand with my tummy, so definitely no sports/leisurewear for me, stretchy dresses or elasticated waists for me.

"This one's still really Marmite." GOOD ONE! I have been wearing barrel shape for decades. The German co. Oscar had beautiful wool trousers in this shape. Note tht these styles come in varied shapes - slimmer & wider barrel, seams curving or straight, curve at different places along the side. Thus there are lots of choices! Delicious.

Fun video! I swore I’d never ever try barrel jeans but I got some as a gift and I went and bought another pair. As long as you pair with cute shoes and a fitted top they look cute. Are they figure flattering…no,but they are stylish for now, and oh so comfortable.

Marks & Spencer's ship worldwide and have a great selection of jeans, the Eva Bootcut (£25) is my favourite, but they also do great slim straight, straight and wide leg jeans, they all come in at least 3 different lengths so no need to alter them if you are not of average height.

love my denim jackets in light and dark wash. I still love a light wash jacket over summer dresses . I could never get use to sweatpants I have tried for wearing at home. I wear jeans most days even playing on the floor with the grandbabies. I also love my denim skirt and shirt and shorts. Denim is ageless. What style of jeans depends on your own shape what you feel comfortable in

I love the white denim look but definitely prefer the dark wash. NO to barrel leg for me. Just bought my first pair of wide leg in dark wash, they fit my pear shaped body very well, love them.

Already decluttered all tapered pants/jeans with less than a 29" inseam. I am curvy so the skinny ankle makes the hip top of the triangle too big. The shorter that triangle, the proportionally wider the hips appear. Kept the wide leg crops because of the better proportions, relaxed fit and hint of Asian style. Still looking for the perfect barrel jeans with a very high waist and hems that break across the tops of my feet. The waist-to-cuff length is key to the barrel making the waist and hips look proportionally smaller and the legs look long. I am 67 with swollen ankles, knobby knees and thinning thighs in need of disguise inside a relaxed pant leg. I am more bothered by fabric that is too thin and lacks the body to hold the jean shape on a light wash jean. Tencel in fabric only seems to work for dresses that drape. Lightweight LIMP jeans look like deflated parade balloons. I like the darker washes because I wear denim in cooler weather. I love cream colored jeans but hate the grays and garment dyed colors that turn a much darker color with a little sweat, pee, snow, rain or salad dressing. I avoid these closet clowns out of pure fear. 💦💦💦

I am right with you on the jorts. All I can think about when I see them is my cringy stepdad in 1999. Might as well throw on a looney tunes embroidered denim vest! Huge no from me. 😂 Edit: I wear light wash jeans in the summer and spring and darker washes in the fall and winter as those washes work better with my colors for the season.

I have several classic denim trucker jackets that I bought over the years, as well as A-line denim skirts and denim shirt dresses from GAP and Zara. I like to wear a graphic t-shirt or a jumper/sweater under my denim dresses/shirts and leave several buttons undone for an effortless, slightly undone layered look. I like my denim shirts, jackets and dresses to be of classic, timeless cuts. So I wouldn't wear boxy denim jackets or oversize shirts or cutesy girly dresses in denim, they're just trends and imo not at all flattering.

Nice, but strange you say stright jeans are comming back, while they are classic. Specially levi's. Levis was first in making jeans. It's been wideleg and flare in between all the time. Emballisment jeans have always been tacky. The way It's emballished one year is so out next year. And, I am sure we wear light wash jeans next summer also, because we don't want the darkest wash in the sunshine.

I think it's more what those journalists are focusing on because I agree they are definitely classic! I love light wash in the warmer months but I dark wash still has a place in my personal style with white tops in the summer 🥰

Barrel jeans is not a good look. Makes your leg look bow legged, like a duck. Stick to slim straight or BF jeans.
